Parki’s platoon BE INSPIRED! SUNDAY 29TH MAY 2011
PARKI’S PLATOON On 31st May 2010 Ben took part in The Forces March 2010 walking 400yds to the finish line of the 132.5 mile challenge in front of a huge crowd. Ben was joined for the last stage of the march by many runners and walkers who had turned out to support him. The group included Ben’s brother Phil. In 2011, the final marathon of The Forces March is once again named in honour of our incredible Patron. Parki’s Platoon will begin in the Wiltshire village of Maiden Bradley and will finish at The Forces Festival 2011, Bulford. Are YOU up for the challenge? On 12th September 2006 Lance Bombardier Ben Parkinson’s life was to change forever. Whilst on tour in Afghanistan with his unit, 7 Para RHA, Ben was caught in a landmine blast. He suffered more than 40 injuries including the loss of his legs, fractures to his spine and left arm, brain damage, a broken Coccyx, breaks to every rib, punctured lungs and numerous broken fingers. Ben spent 4 months in a coma. Medical experts predicted that due to the severity of Ben’s injuries he would never be able to walk, talk or even dress himself again. With determination so typical of British troops Ben has never accepted those predictions.
