AMH Update 
• The 2015 PG Awareness calendars – Mid October distribution date.

Calendar size has been increased to 11” x 8.5” Plan is to include the 
new Helpline address and artwork. 
• Currently looking at the Service Element language for Problem 
Gambling Prevention for revisions for the 2015-17 biennium. 
• AMH and the Oregon Council on Problem Gambling are hosting the 
Oregon PGS conference on October 9th and 10th in Newport at the 
Hallmark Resort. Keith Whyte from the National Council on Problem 
Gambling, Jeff Marrotta, and others will be presenting on the past, 
present and future of problem gambling, internet gambling and 
internet gaming. Registration information contact Patricia Alderson

PG Prevention Monthly Connect 
AMH Update Continued: 
• Joint Prevention Coordinator business meeting on October 8th at the

Hallmark Resort 10:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. UPDATE: overnight room 
reservation registration discount for lodging at the Hallmark 
has been extended to Sept. 15th. 
• The Lottery is rolling out their new VLT’s. 
 Speed of play – can go as quickly as the individual can hit the spin button 
 Targeted demographics – machines have variety of games on each machine to 
attract different interest etc. 
 Responsible Gambling – machines include clocks so the individual can track the 
amount of time that has elapsed since they started play; credits are reflected in 
number of credits and $$$$; and the new machines have the capacity to 
incorporate other responsible gambling options in the future. 
 Retailer Training – PGS team viewed the problem gambling video that the 
Lottery utilizes during their trainings, and the lottery has agreed to make it 
available on-line. Discussions are underway on how prevention can be involved 
in the retailer trainings at the local level.

•PGS Regional Training Summary – Regional Training feedback information was 
summarized into the following areas. PGS staff are know taking the information in those 
four areas and developing a work plan. When the document is finalized a copy will be 
forwarded to providers.

 Kim – Clackamas: Developing partnership with National Guard. Participating in

afterschool kick off event in Early October. 
 Jessica – Deschutes: Introduced David Visiko as the new PG Prevention Coordinator in 
Deschutes. Welcome David! 
 Shawn – Josephine: Recovery Fair in Josephine County is on September 23rd. Problem 
Gambling Awareness is ingrained into the activities at the recovery fair. 
 Lisa – Marion: Will be conducting in class presentations around the Artwork contest 
for PGAM in March. Working on increasing prevention in their social media 
messaging etc. 
 JoDee- Tillamook: Working on Brain Health with their coalition “It Starts with Youth”. 
Youth’s responsibility in taking care of their own brain. Will be starting providing a 
curriculum in October that focuses on alcohol abuse but incorporating gambling and 
the impact on their developing brain. 
 Jennifer – Lincoln: Working on streamlining referral process with Tx provider, 
discussing on how to train law enforcement, judges to raise awareness.
PG Prevention Monthly Connect

 Andy – Washington: Gearing up for schools with request for presentations. Provides 
10 
relapse prevention information in the Jail. Hosting a radio show during PGAM – 
Community Matters and we will work to make that available on Prevention Website. 
Doing suicide prevention work. Has become QPR and Assist Trained. Incorporating 
problem gambling awareness into the suicide prevention work. 
 Jerry – Douglas: Event called “The Blast” for recovery and prevention. Will feature 5 K 
run with colored cornstarch, and a Health Fair . Health fair includes information 
about suicide and gambling prevention, and other great activities. Kicking the year 
off on a good foot 
 Beth – Polk: New coordinator in Polk County. Welcome Beth!

PGS Prevention Monthly Connect AMH Update • The 2015 PG Awareness calendars – Mid October distribution date. 3 Calendar size has been increased to 11” x 8.5” Plan is to include the new Helpline address and artwork. • Currently looking at the Service Element language for Problem Gambling Prevention for revisions for the 2015-17 biennium. • AMH and the Oregon Council on Problem Gambling are hosting the Oregon PGS conference on October 9th and 10th in Newport at the Hallmark Resort. Keith Whyte from the National Council on Problem Gambling, Jeff Marrotta, and others will be presenting on the past, present and future of problem gambling, internet gambling and internet gaming. PG Prevention Monthly Connect AMH Update Continued: • Joint Prevention Coordinator business meeting on October 8th at the 4 Hallmark Resort 10:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. UPDATE: overnight room reservation registration discount for lodging at the Hallmark has been extended to Sept. 15th. • The Lottery is rolling out their new VLT’s.  Speed of play – can go as quickly as the individual can hit the spin button  Targeted demographics – machines have variety of games on each machine to attract different interest etc.  Responsible Gambling – machines include clocks so the individual can track the amount of time that has elapsed since they started play; credits are reflected in number of credits and $$$$; and the new machines have the capacity to incorporate other responsible gambling options in the future.  Retailer Training – PGS team viewed the problem gambling video that the Lottery utilizes during their trainings, and the lottery has agreed to make it available on-line. Discussions are underway on how prevention can be involved in the retailer trainings at the local level.

PGS staff are know taking the information in those four areas and developing a work plan.   • 9. PG Prevention Monthly Connect Check in / Sharing  Kim – Clackamas: Developing partnership with National Guard. Participating in 9 afterschool kick off event in Early October.  Jessica – Deschutes: Introduced David Visiko as the new PG Prevention Coordinator in Deschutes. Welcome David!  Shawn – Josephine: Recovery Fair in Josephine County is on September 23rd. Problem Gambling Awareness is ingrained into the activities at the recovery fair.  Lisa – Marion: Will be conducting in class presentations around the Artwork contest for PGAM in March. Working on increasing prevention in their social media messaging etc.  JoDee- Tillamook: Working on Brain Health with their coalition “It Starts with Youth”. Youth’s responsibility in taking care of their own brain. Will be starting providing a curriculum in October that focuses on alcohol abuse but incorporating gambling and the impact on their developing brain.  Jennifer – Lincoln: Working on streamlining referral process with Tx provider, discussing on how to train law enforcement, judges to raise awareness.
  • 10. PG Prevention Monthly Connect Check in / Sharing  Andy – Washington: Gearing up for schools with request for presentations. Provides 10 relapse prevention information in the Jail. Hosting a radio show during PGAM – Community Matters and we will work to make that available on Prevention Website. Doing suicide prevention work. Has become QPR and Assist Trained. Incorporating problem gambling awareness into the suicide prevention work.  Jerry – Douglas: Event called “The Blast” for recovery and prevention. Will feature 5 K run with colored cornstarch, and a Health Fair . Health fair includes information about suicide and gambling prevention, and other great activities.
