2. We watched ‘Caine’s Arcade on YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faIFNkdq96U
Visited the Cardboard Challenge website
http://cardboardchallenge.com/
and decided we were up for the challenge
of designing arcade games from cardboard
boxes.
3. We had lots of discussions about the
different games we saw on Caine’s
Arcade and how we thought they
had been made.
We talked about the sorts of games
that are found at arcades.
We brainstormed a list of potential
games that could be built and
materials we would need.
The students had the option of
working by themselves or with a
partner.
They then worked to complete the
design brief. The completed design
brief was then presented to the
teacher for discussion and checking.
4. Students had two weeks to collect as many different
boxes as they could to be shared amongst the grade.
Boxes began appearing in our classroom at a rapid ratethank you parents!!
While we were collecting boxes we had a go at building
small pinball games using shoe boxes. Our local shoe
shops were very pleased to get rid of their empty
shoeboxes.
We based our pinball games on the pinball design found
at
http://pbskids.org/fetch/games/activities/pdf/FETCH_PinballWizard.pdf

6. Then the day arrived to start work on our arcade games.
7. Once our arcade games
were finished we set them
up in our assembly area and
opened our arcade to
customers (the other
students).

10. Our Arcade was VERY successful and
everyone had lots of fun.
We will have our Arcade open for business
again very soon.
