Ovulation is the release of an egg from the ovaries, which is viable for up to 24 hours and marks a woman's fertile window. Ovulation test kits detect luteinizing hormone in urine, which surges 24-36 hours before ovulation, to help couples time intercourse to increase chances of conception. The kits contain test strips to be used once daily starting around day 11 of a typical 28-day cycle. A positive test shows two lines and means ovulation will occur within the next 24-36 hours, while a negative or invalid test should be repeated the following day. If not pregnant after using an ovulation kit, consulting a fertility specialist is recommended.

What Is Ovulation ?
1. What Is Ovulation?
Ovulation is defined as the release of an ovum from a mature follicle. This released egg is usually
viable 24 hours after ovulation, and this is the window in which fertilization occurs.
Why do we need to use ovulation test kit?
This will help a woman to predict the approximate window of ovulation and thereby increase her
chances of conception by having intercourse during that time.
In today's busy lifestyle where couples are busy and cannot afford frequent ultrasound scans, they
want to plan a pregnancy; Ovulation kits have a good role to play. Ovulation test kits help a couple
get pregnant faster, safely and naturally by guiding them about their fertility period.
How do ovulation test kits work?
Luteinizing hormone is an essential reproductive hormone. The LH surge is a sudden increase in
luteinizing hormone, which facilitates the process of ovulation. The LH surge occurs approximately
24 to 36 hours before ovulation. LH hormone is excreted through urine. Therefore, at the time of
ovulation, the amount of LH hormone in the urine is high. Ovulation kits are designed to detect the
presence of LH hormone in the urine and thereby predict the fertile window. The menstrual cycle
occurs as a result of complex hormonal interactions. These changes in hormone levels decide and
control the fertile window. The menstrual cycle is controlled by hormones released by the anterior
pituitary gland.
(Follicle-stimulating hormone and LH) and hormones released by the ovaries (estrogen and
progesterone).
The constantly changing and fluctuating hormones of the above-mentioned hormones during the
menstrual cycle control ovum development and ovulation.
The fertile window closes soon after ovulation.
The chances of conception are higher the day before ovulation and on the day of ovulation.
The duration of the fertile period is determined by both the viability of the sperm and the lifespan of
the ovum in the days prior to ovulation; It is generally believed that sperm can survive for 5 to 7 days
in the cervical mucus, while the egg usually survives for 12–24 hours after ovulation.
When to start your trial?
2. Each ovulation kit contains 4 to 5 test strips.
First, calculate the length of your cycle. Your cycle length is the number of days from the first day of
your menstrual cycle to the last day before your next period starts.
Subtract 17 from the length of your circle. So if your cycle is 28 days, you should start using the kit
from day 11 of your cycle.
The first morning sample is not used for the test.
Test to be done only once a day
Test preferably in the afternoon.
How to read and interpret the test?
Positive: If both the C and T lines are present, this indicates imminent ovulation in the next 24 to 36
hours, indicating a fertile window during which the couple should have intercourse.
Negative: If only C line is present and Aline is absent, it means that the test should be continued on
the next day as well.
INVALID: If both lines are negative, the test needs to be repeated using a new kit.
What to do if you are not getting pregnant even after using the kit?
