Mine Descriptive Writing
It is mine. The golden sun that shines and kisses the tops of my shoulders. The wisps of white
clouds traveling within a baby blue sky. The gentle breeze that coils itself around my arms
providing relief from the warming sun. The sapphire sea and its serene waves rolling gently out to
shore onto the finely grained sand. It is all mine.
It is mine. Even the darkened sky when the sun cannot be seen. Even the blackened clouds that
blanket the sky. Even the blistering winds that pierce my skin with frozen shards. Even the dusky
sea and its roaring waves crashing against jagged–edged boulders, creating a thick coat of foam as
white as seagulls' feathers. It is all mine.
It is the sea. And all of it mine. I wear a single drop of the sapphire sea encased within a small,
marquise–shaped stone. I wear the foam from roaring waves gathered up into two rounded
diamonds. I wear the finely grained, yellow–gold sand that surrounds it all, and lifts everything up in
a cathedral mount. I wear my ring. Even now, it gingerly hugs my finger.
But it's not truly mine. The sea can never belong to me. And the ring doesn't belong to me. And the
ring no longer represents the love and bond between two people. And the ring has no purpose other
than to exist. Or at least that is what I tell myself. But I feel my gut twisting, my head pounding, and
my heart beat quickening, and I know that what I tell myself is wrong.

The Class Everyone Dreads "Is EN100 a useful class to take?," this was a question I got asked by
a junior at my school. They were looking for classes to take next year; I told them that it was an
abundant amount of writing, but it was a great class to take. I went on to explain to them, that
taking it in high school would be easier and cheaper than in college. Beginning to explain to them
that it helped me grow as a writer and helped improve my English vocabulary, I realized it helped a
whole lot. Throughout the first semester of school, we had to write essays over four different topics.
These included informative, observation, reflection, and descriptive essays. I told them about my
experiences while writing with these certain types of essays. This is what I said: The first essay we
wrote was the descriptive writing style. I wrote an essay called, "Burger King's Crusty Castle". In
this essay, I wrote about the filth inside of the restaurant. Throughout this essay I got better with
describing every little detail in the story. I started off by saying, "The tea urns (used to keep all of
the freshly made tea in) smell like something had crawled in them and died" ("Burger King's
Crusty Castle"1). I eventually changed it to say, "The tea urns (used to keep all of the freshly
made tea in) smell like a skunk that has just been ran over" ("Burger King's Crusty Castle"11). I
added detail to the sentence to make it sound more fluent and to make you feel as if you could smell

"I can't believe you," she cries, hurls her last insult, and storms away, quickly followed by a small
group of girls. They spend the rest of the evening throwing dirty looks at the boys, none of whom
seem to care. Spinning faster and faster, the waltzer's occupants scream hysterically. "The louder
you scream, the faster we go," an impersonal voice claims on the intercom. As the ride explodes
with noise, the operator yawns and throws a lever. Outside his soundproof hut the ride
accelerates, then, climax over, it slows and stops. The controller stumbles out of the box and lets

There's no one to talk to... I hate this place. The smell, the silence, the way that time hangs in the
air catalyses my irritation. I scream yet no one hears. I question but no one answers. I'm just
waiting for the day I die and no one finds me. I guess I won't be there to enjoy that.

knives, daring one to fall, sudden toll of a distant bell reverberates through the hallway, sending a
shockwave that ripples through me. I need to escape. These cold, lifeless tiles hurt me feet as I
begin to run with increasing frustration. My hands begin to clench, as my heart beats harder and
louder. All of a sudden however I stop. The golden handle of the front door stands ajar, tempting
me to open it to unlock the realms of the open world. However, just as I touch the knob, my hands

to the point I can see the depths of the sea. Again, I dragged myself up and turn to the back; it

I walk deeper into the island. Nowhere, the sound of the birds started to raise up. It brought

happily along the banks of small streams. Following the streams, it allowed me to hear the playful
sound of the water lapping on the rocks, and the sound of leaves rustling when the wind blew

Her family communicates to one another using spanish or sometimes english. I have always
grown up in a family that speaks only english so I find it interesting to go over to other people's
houses and hear them communicating in another language. On top of all of this meeting different
people has also opened my mind to new ideas. For example, in school when we work in group

My Cozy Home A home is a place where you have lived with your family for so long that it has, in

For most college students, carrying some form of bag is a necessity. Depending on the person, they
might carry a backpack, purse, messenger bag, tote, or something else. Bags are sometimes a way

For myself, my choice of bag was due to convenience and I'll explain. The backpack I use currently, I

am to frugal to buy a new one. Until, the straps breakoff I will probably continue to use it. In high
school I chose this backpack based on appearance (Grey, which is my favorite color) and the
popularity of the brand. Today, I don't care much about the appearance, as many could gather from
the giant hole. I use it because I have it and its still functional.
Laptop: My laptop is a necessity for me and that is why I always carry it in my backpack. I'm often
on campus most of the day and I use the laptop to work on assignments, quizzes, watch Netflix
between classes, or browse the internet.
Binder: My binder is a ВЅ inch white organizational tool. I use it to hold hard copies of assignments
to prevent damage and blank college ruled paper in case I need a piece for an in–class assignment. In

accumulate when I was informed that my flight to Hawaii had been rescheduled. My frustration built

Crowds of people began to funnel in to this one location on the beach. I imagined that an animal
had washed up on the shore and could not get back into the water. My curiosity grew, and I left my
chair to follow the path of everyone else down the shoreline.
Upon reaching the scene, I became aware of what happened. I stared down at a little girl who was
lying face up and was unresponsive to family members calling her name. It was evident that she
had drowned and was on the edge of death. Life guards began to pound on her chest and start chest
compulsions. She continued to stay motionless. Quickly, lifeguards began the operations of CPR.
These long and tiring procedures made the lifeguards physically tired. The rest of the family

self–feeling safe and comfortable like a perfect dream. It had melted all my stress and gave me a
calm atmosphere of delights. As I enter her dark and cozy room, seeing many traditional types of
furniture, it had made me feel like I was living my life in the old days. Her bed felt super soft like
clouds, and I could not help myself sitting on that bed and talking with her about her life
experiences as being a woman. As we sat, she asked, "So, what brings you here today after so
long?" I was in excitement to see myself through her words of her life experiences from her
childhood. As I asked her many questions that involved gender roles of being a woman, she looked
serious with a question mark on her face. We pause for seconds; it was dead quiet, and all I could
hear is the tick–tock of an old cranking sound of a clock. She then responded, "Being a girl, I lived
in a farm–like house, it was a muddy and dirtiest place that no one can imagine living in there
today." Her response had made me terrified because of the description of the condition and the
environment she had lived during her childhood. "My brothers had gone to school while I stay
home with my mother helping her do chores and clean up animals stool, the worst smell God ever
had created." she continued, with shame on her face. I was angrily surprised to hear how much
differentiate her family kept in the gender role of her being a female. In my life, I have never
experienced or seen such a dreadful situation like how my grandma did. Afterward, being not able to

audience attention you must give a clear understanding of your story. A descriptiveessay lets you

Make the description vivid and interesting. I think that a descriptive essay is more powerful
because it tell a story in detail. It tells you what it is all about how to except the story where the
story originated from whether it is fiction or a documentary. My opinion on the essays are similar
because narrating the story is the author who is writing the story and also describing the essays in

WHAT ARE DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS?
Before we continue the discussion about the basic descriptive data elements that are needed to
answer the question I previously posed, it is important to understand what we mean by descriptive
statistics. Descriptive statistics describe the features of the data collected. In other words, descriptive
statistics describe "what" the data looks like, but it does not tell you why or how data elements
interact or influence one another. Descriptive statistics provide a defender with summaries about the
data collected and these summaries may be either quantitative or visual. Quantitative descriptive
statistics are the sum of data points that are usually reported as total numbers or averages in a report.

A defender can compile these numbers into simple graphics (i.e. pie charts, bar charts, diagrams), to
look at a picture that can graphically describe the data collected.
Inferential statistics are used to make predictions about the interaction (or correlation) between
different variables. With inferential statistics, you use statistical formulas to reach conclusions or
make predictions that extend beyond describing the total number variables found in the data that you
collect. For example, a defender can use inferential statistics to infer that the early appointment of
counsel improves dispositional outcomes for persons charged with the murder in the first degree.
You can use inferential statistics to explain an observed difference between certain types of cases
and say that the change (or improved outcome) is dependent on certain action and that the change in
that outcome did not happen by chance. By using inferential statistical analysis you can say that an
independent variable (a variable that stands alone and is not changed by another variable) is causing
a reaction in a dependent variable, and if you consistently observe specific reaction then we can we
say with certainty that the independent variable will consistently cause the same reaction (that it is
statistically significant) on the dependent variable. Inferential statistics are used to make predictions
from the data that allow you make generalizations about a specific set of circumstances.

It was a seemingly beautiful day as I drove on a joy ride in my bright blue sports car, with the
wind in my hair. This is an everyday activity for me. My friends would mock me saying, "You
spend more money on gas than you make working." I laughed to myself at the thought of jokes
amongst my friends. That happiness was soon halted. As I continued driving, I saw a car coming
rapidly around the curve. The car did not show any signs of slowing down as it headed towards the
intersection. The light turned yellow and then quickly red. Another object caught my eye that made

One of the police officers came up to me introduced himself, asked me my name and started, "Have
you ever seen this driver before? On the road or around town?" I quickly responded, "No, I have not
officer." He continued, "I learned from the call back to the station that the driver, David Chrisenger,
is considered the town drunk and does not currently have a valid license due to drinking and
driving". He asked me some questions and asked me to fill out an incident report. Still shaken up by
the whole incident I gladly accepted. The officer ended our conversation. "Thank you so much for
your time, Kevin. We really appreciate it."
The only thought running through my head on my way home was how much I had not
appreciated my wife and children. To witness something of that nature makes one conscientious
about what you have and how quickly it could vanish. I vowed after that day to speak out against
drinking and driving and the terrible outcomes that can transpire from something that some do
not view as a "big deal". It is apparent that better ways have to be found for getting drunk drivers off
the road. I encourage anyone to be responsible for their lives and others by agreeing to never drink
and drive again, and to also aid your family and friends in doing so. Have a designated driver each
