I will tell it to him. The ground was broken up into many fresh wounds and fragrant with a
sweetish earthy smell. Many slender soft worms emerged from the furrows and then burrowed
again deeper into the soil. A short colorless worm marched blindly to Dodong's foot and crawled
calmly over it. Dodong go tickled and jerked his foot, flinging the worm into the air. Dodong did
not bother to look where it fell, but thought of his age, seventeen, and he said to himself he was
not young any more. Dodong unhitched the carabao leisurely and gave it a healthy tap on the
hip. The beast turned its head to look at him with dumb faithful eyes. Dodong gave it a slight
push and the animal walked alongside him to its shed. He placed bundles of grass before it land
the carabao began to eat. Dodong looked at it without interests. Dodong started homeward, thinking
how he would break his news to his father. He wanted to marry, Dodong did. He was seventeen, he

Notes On Leadership And Management
1. Leadership and Management
Leadership and management are 2 major concepts in the world of business and most likely to be
confused with each others. This assignment tries to determine if there are any differences between
the 2 concepts.
1.1 Leadership Definition
Leadership has many different definitions, however, leadership in management is defined as the
leader is the person who others are following, and to have followers it's a process that needs an
impact of that person on others to follow him. (Yuki, 1989)
Leadership is also believed to be a form of social interaction process that happen among members
of a team or a group, and leadership is the skill that person can lead the followers in most efficient
way.
There has always been the...show more content...
(Katter, 2001)
Leaders are also considered to be playing an essential rule in any organization; they are the passion
and the creativity they can introduce to the workers within organization. Leaders are gifted with
flexibility, innovation, inspiration, courageous and independence. Managers on the other hands are
the mind, the rational and persistence, analytical, authoritiv and stabilizing. (Capowski, 1994)
The main question here still is what is the difference between management and leadership? The
major difference between managers and leaders is the way they motivate their staff. The style of
their role wither they are managing a group or leading a team to succeed and achieve the set goals.
Managers are not necessary leaders and on the other hand leaders do not need to be managers to
lead others to achieve goals and targets. However, some people can be both if they are assigned as
mangers and gifted with the leadership skills, qualities and personality to be able to have others
following them.
1.3 Management Theories
There are 4 main models of management that theories and approaches adopt in the style of
management. ; The Classical Management Theory, Human Relations Theory, Neo–Human relation
theory and System Theory.
Classical Management model takes place usually in a very structured workplace with prescribed
roles. These roles are assigned to each

Essay on A Literacy Event that Changed my Life
A Literacy Event that Changed my Life
All my life I have been a lazy person, doing just enough to get by. Most of the time, in high school,
I was content with just a "C". The only time I wasn't, was if it was a class I liked, and I paid
attention to. If this was the case, I could have received a 99% on a test and been dissatisfied. But,
for the rest of my classes, which were most of my classes, that I didn't like, I never paid attention
to or did homework, and I still managed to do well on tests. So basically I didn't do anything except
take tests and I still got satisfactory grades. In school I was so lazy that there could have been a
project due worth about 20% of the final grade and I still wouldn't do it.
Once in my 11th...show more content...
Regardless, I received a zero on this project, thus failing that marking period.
Since Jr. High I haven't read a single book that was assigned to me in English class, hence my poor
English grades. In fact, when my marks started to improve in English my GPA soared from a 2.1
to a 3.0. When my marks finally improved is when I started getting along with my English
teacher. I never got along with any of my English teachers for some unknown reason. Maybe
because I hardly did any work at all. I have to thank the book, The Great Gatsby for helping me
find my prolonged love for my English teacher, and every English teacher since. Out of pure
coincidence, as soon as I read my first assigned book, I suddenly got along with my teacher. I read
the book for no reason other then that I finally thought that a book that was assigned, sounded
interesting. And sure enough I was right. I read the book and enjoyed it. Before I read this book,
the teacher and I were really at each others throats, literally. I found out from a fellow student that
overheard her talking about me and she said that she would love to have the chance to knock me
out. I laughed at the thought, since she did weigh about 100lbs and was over 60. I am very
thankful for The Great Gatsby, and thankful that I read it. Since reading the book, I have joined a
book club and bought a few books, and am in the process of reading one right now. A lot of things

Marginalizing Yunior's Footnotes
power of the fukГє, distinguishes his narrative from the profound precision that is typically applied
to history. This can be seen when Yunior rejects the supposed objectivity of history by questioning,
"Where in coГ±azo do you think the so–called cure of the Kennedys comes from? How about
Vietnam? Why do you think the greatest power in the world lost its first war to a Third World
country like Vietnam?" (4) In this case, objective facts would be useless; without being applied to
the context of a narrative, facts possess no meaning. Rather, Yunior's employment of the fukГє
enables the reader to imagine links that were formerly unseen. As a result, Yunior's manipulation on
hearsay disfigures the authoritative preference of fact over fiction, challenging the nature of
objectivity that is...show more content...
First, imitating the literal separation of the marginalized text from the content of the body, Yunior
undoes the authority that Trujillo wrongfully gained through suppressing others by making him the
subject of a majority of the novel's footnotes. In doing so, Yunior establishes a reversal of roles
between Trujillo and the marginalized people of the Dominican Republic. In addition, Yunior's
inclusion of footnotes creates a double narrative containing the contesting authorial voices that are
found within the margins and in the main text. In addition to asserting the dangers of a single voice,
Yunior's use of footnotes enable him to neatly intertwine the historical facts of the Trujillo's
dictatorship with the fictional narrative of the Cabral family. This nuance between history and
narrative obscures the line between fact and fiction and allows Yunior to undermine the authority
associated with history's characteristics of being linear, singular, and

Trade School Vs. College Essay
Trade School vs. College
People are told from a young age that the only way to lead a successful life is to go to college.
Although there is no denying of the economic advantage post secondary learning can provide for a
student, college isn't necessarily the only available option. Options like trade school or vocational
training are other reasonable choices. However, trade school is not seen as legitimate as a
traditional four year college, and a trade school student is not seen as having a secure future. The
majority of people fail to realize there are hundreds of well paying employment opportunities that do
not require the time, money, and effort needed to get a college degree. Not only does the negative
perception of trade school hurt the futures of students, it ultimately hurts the nation's economy. In
order to eliminate the stigma surrounding non traditional schools, students and parents should be
exposed to trade schools and the benefits of pursuing a vocational career.
Trade schools, vocational schools, and technical schools are all educational institutions that teach
skills related to a specific job (Hamm). Some schools provide education as that provided at other
colleges and universities. Many schools specialize in particular lines of work that range from
broadcasting to beauty. The skills acquired in trade schools are sometimes referred to as middle
skills and are seeked out by employers and jobs that require more education than a high school
diploma, but less

In his essay Consider the Lobster, it's apparent what David Foster Wallace is trying to tell his
audience: we should really think about the lobster's point of view before cooking and eating it.
Wallace uses multiple rhetorical strategies to get his point across, including pathos and ethos. His
essay is very good in how it gets its point across, and how it forces even the largest lobster
consumers to truly contemplate how the lobster might react being boiled alive. It brings up many
controversial topics of animal rights that many people tend to avoid, especially people who are
major carnivores. Wallace's use of rhetorical strategies really gets the reader thinking, and
thoroughly captures the argument of many vegetarians against the consumption of animals.
Wallace captures the use of pathos in his essay and uses it in a way that is incredibly convincing
to the reader. For example, he compares the Maine Lobster Festival to how a Nebraska Beef
Festival could be, stating, "at which part of the festivities is watching trucks pull up and the live
cattle get driven down the ramp and slaughtered right there..." (Wallace 700). Playing off of
people's natural tendency to feel bad for the cattle, he shows that the killing of lobster is, in reality,
no different than the killing of cattle, but we treat it much differently. We tend to think that lobsters
are different because they are less human than cows are, and, maybe to make us feel better about our
senseless killing of an animal,

The story centers at the character of Dodong. Dodong is the one who represents the typical youth

for the sake of proving himself that he can manage his own life because he is matured enough to
face this life's challenges.

Internal conflict confronts the leading character. Internal character in a way that he was struggling if

difficult time meeting the expectations that he must achieve.
5. How is the conflict resolved?
Actually, it was not resolved at all. Why? Because he just realized that he was wrong for being
stubborn and foolish that he was not listening to his parents about dealing with marriage, family and

happens. Also because of his

2015 NBA Draft: A Footnote In NBA History
The 2015 NBA Draft is nothing now but a footnote in NBA history and now the Summer League

the last generation of stars will leave behind but there are players worth mentioning who might
not have received the press that they deserve. In this year's draft, the next agent zero or even the
next Paul Millsap was picked late in the first round or even the second. It's too early to tell who
the stars are that missed the lottery but there is a couple of sleepers that are just as good as the
players picked in the lottery and here's a couple of names you should get used to. PG/SG, Joseph

two collegiate years at Oregon where many accolades followed. Young was awarded the Pac–12

Sporting News honors. And rightfully so. Young averaged 20.7 points per game, 3.8 assists, and
4.4 rebounds, shooting 35 percent from behind the arc. Young is not shy when it comes looking for
his own shot and profiles as someone who can come off the bench and contribute right away from
either guard spot. Just look at how he manipulated the Orlando Magic's defense here en route to a 28

Essay on Comparing Positive and Natural Law
Comparing Positive and Natural Law
"Do what you believe is right." This is a phrase common to us all, brought to our attention by
parents, reinforced by teachers, and preached by leaders. But how does one define what is right?
Is it what we believe in our hearts, or is it what we know is acceptable? This is a predominant
dilemma that can be traced throughout society, and is the main focal point of Sophocles' play
Antigone. Written in 441 B.C., Antigone is one of the earliest records of the conflict between
Natural law and Positive law. Sophocles deftly exposes these two philosophical standpoints and their
respective moral and political aspects by way of the two main characters, Antgone and Kreon.
Antigone is a champion of Natural...show more content...
This position becomes apparent when he utters the lines "...if I see disaster marching against our
citizens... I shall not befriend the enemy of this land. For the state is safety. When she is steady,
then we can steer. Then we can love" (224–229). This ultimately sums up the Positive law belief that
society always comes before self, that once the society is safe, then you are permitted to allow for
yourself.
With each philosophy located at opposite ends of the social spectrum, a dilemma is unavoidable
when the two face each other. This is the backbone for the entire plot of Antigone. On one side is
Antigone, who pursues her self–righteous beliefs whole heartedly and without question. On the
other side is Kreon, who acts in response to what he believes is best for the society. Both
characters are justified in their behavior. It is their motives that set them apart from each other.
Antigone knows that she will suffer personal anguish if she does not carry out her actions. "But if
I had let my own brother stay unburied I would have suffered all the pain I do not feel now. And if
you decide what I did was foolish, you may be fool enough to convict me" (572–574). She acts in
her own personal interest, concerned for her well–being. She believes that her motive is one that
should be accepted, that love for a brother could never be viewed as foolish. Kreon, on the other
hand, makes his decisions as a king rather then an uncle. He

Jose Garcia Villa's Footnote To Youth
The short story "Footnotes to Youth", written by Filipino writer Jose Garcia Villa, talks about a
young boy at the age of seventeen Dodong, who was initially very enthusiastic about life, but then
the obstacles and tribulations of life got the best of him and made him became grim about life.
This goes for same for his wife Teang, who carried the burden of taking care of six children and
doing household chores, and as a result she became shapeless and thin. Both of their lives became
miserable after having children despite their young age.
By reading the literary text "Footnotes to Youth", it is found that the theory of psychoanalysis is
applied in the story. Through the dreams and the thoughts of the character, it is shown that the
characters of the story had inner feelings within them....show more content...
He thought that life had been made ugly for him after his marriage to Teang. Teang felt the same, as
she wished that she was not married, or at least that she had no children. There is also denial when
Blas told his father, Dodong, about his proposal to Tona. Dodong couldn't believe that his son was
doing the same thing as he did eighteen years ago. However, he could not do anything but to give
his blessings to his son reluctantly and hoped that he would able to go through th tribulation of life.
There is also evidence of archetypes, an easily recognizable role in literature and drama. It is found
that one character can have more than one archetype, as long they meet the requirements. In the
short story "Footnotes to Youth", it is discovered that Teang was the anima, or the ideazed female in
Dodong's mind, as he constantly dreamt of her day and night. He desired her, and wanted to marry
her. Tona was the anima in Blas' mind as well. The statement he gave to his father, Dodong, that he
"wanted" her, suggested that he had a sense of possessiveness within

Essay on Colonial Rule in Africa
The African continent is one of the biggest land masses on the planet. With its massive population,
tremendous natural resources, and rich cultural history, one has to wonder why any country in the
continent holds a third world status. The amount of corruption and poverty within many states in
Africa is astounding, and in order to unearth the reasons for the state of many African nations today
one must go back to the late nineteenth century to when Africa was partitioned by the major
European powers of the time. By drawing arbitrary lines on a map of Africa, the western powers
effectively changed the course of African history and set the stage for intense exploitation and
domination of the African people. One could argue that the western...show more content...
With the transition being made from human trafficking to natural products, the wars and raids fought
to gain slaves had ceased, thus ushering a new era of peace and stability. Consequently, the switch to
natural products connected them to the world market, bringing in capitalism and spreading the
wealth throughout some of the rural areas. With their newfound peace and economic wealth, many
African states were in a position to set up legitimate governments and write their own constitution.
For instance, the Fante Confederation in Ghana in 1868 had written a constitution stating how the
upper offices were to be run, established legislative, executive and judicial branches, and even
wrote provisions for the development for roads, education, and their natural resources. There was
also the Egba Board of Management in Nigeria in 1865, and the Kingdom of Grebo in Liberia, all
of them experimenting with constitution and self rule. The advancements the African population
had made was done in vain, becuase in November 1884, every single Western nation met in Berlin
except for Switzerland and the United States for a conference under the leadership of the German
Chancellor Otto von Bismarck. Not a single African ruler was present, and it was here that various
European nations staked their claim on the dark continent, and did so

she married. Not marrying Dodong was only an after–thought.
The story goes on, however, to describe another suitor Teang had, Lucio, who was older than
Dodong by nine years. Lucio had married another after her marriage to Dodong, but he and his wife
were childless until now. If she had married Lucion, she wondered, would she have borne him
children? Maybe not, either. That was a better lot. But she loved Dodong.... Here we are given a
clearer picture about her unhappiness and disappointment.
It is particularly regarding child–bearing at a young age that Teang is unhappy with. ...would she
have borne him children? Maybe not, either. That was a better lot. The regret she feels about the
marriage, then,

A Sample of Phenomenological Paper
My Thrifty Girlfriend: A Phenomenological Paper I have a girlfriend who has been my blockmate
for almost four years. We've been together for three months now. I can say that her family belongs to
upper–middle class–her father is working for the United Nations, earning USD8000 per month and
her mother works as a tutor for toddlers. She was actually my close friend before we dated. Before
we became couple last April, I actually observed (and from her friends' stories) that she was really
really 'thrifty' with her money. Her friends would usually tease her because she would usually opt to
eat her own baon whenever they eat in restaurants in Katipunan instead of ordering food. I also got
irritated with her once because of her complaints...show more content...
Nonetheless, should I be angry with her? Being her girlfriend, I'm supposed to understand and
accept her fully. Why did I judge her as being cheap and indecent just because she buys her pants
in Divisoria? Why should I be angry about her not taking me to dinner? Why didn't I, being the
one who was so hungry, invite her then? Then I thought, maybe the problem is in me. Unlike her,
we have this lifestyle of 'spending'. We are not rich but my mom would usually do anything to
provide for what we need and want. She feels hurt whenever she can't give what we are asking for.
Unlike her, I came from a family of politicians. My lolo has served our province for quite some
time as a governor. My mom was a board member for two terms. We grew up entertaining guests
and serving them food while they wait for Mama to attend to their concerns. Unlike her, money is
not my priority. I mean, yes it's nice to save but not to the extent that I will exclude myself from
enjoying life and make myself look woe. This is something really different with her upbringing.
Maybe, I was irritated with her simply because she is different. She's living an independent life
while I want to depend on her. I realized maybe it has something to do with my expectations. I
expect her to be generous to me, to take good care of me because those are my ideals for a partner.
Economically speaking, they are rich than my family. They

The Purpose of Shoes Essay
Shoes are not only worn to protect the human feet. They are also worn because they add the final
touch to the style you are trying to create. The history of shoes is very long and nobody really
knows when the first shoes were created but we do know that they were originally made to warm
the feet. Now, there are many different types and each kind helps you function a different way. The
shoe is also made up of many parts and every kind of shoe has different parts then other types. Year
by year, shoes have been improving and becoming more and more popular. Now, we have all the
equipment and all the materials we need to make the shoe better than ever.

There are many different styles of shoes. Some shoes are just fashion accessory and others help us
at different tasks like running, dancing and many other sports. Almost every single sport has a
special kind of shoe. For example, cleats are used for soccer while skates are for used in skating.
Dancing has several different types of footwear. One of them is the Pointe shoe which was made
so a dancer can stand on the tips of his or her toes. There are also many varieties of fashion shoes.
The most common ones are heels which are worn for special occasions. Another type is known as
a flat. They can be designed the same way as heels but they do not have heels on the bottom. Each
type of shoe is made for a special purpose. Some are made just as a fashion item and others are
made to help humans at different tasks.
Footwear is assembled of many parts. Together, these parts make the shoe fit comfortably on your
foot. The bottom of the shoe is called a sole and the inside is called an insole . However, not all
companies put insoles in their shoes. The part in direct contact with the ground is known as the
out–sole. Dress shoes usually have leather outsoles and casual or work shoes have rubber out–soles.
The material between the two soles is called a mid–sole. Made with the same material as the sole,
the heel is the bottom rear part of a

Dodong did not bother to look where it fell, but thought of his age, seventeen, and he said to himself he was not young any more. Dodong unhitched the carabao leisurely and gave it a healthy tap on the hip. The beast turned its head to look at him with dumb faithful eyes. Dodong gave it a slight push and the animal walked alongside him to its shed. He placed bundles of grass before it land the carabao began to eat. Dodong looked at it without interests. Dodong started homeward, thinking how he would break his news to his father. He wanted to marry, Dodong did. He was seventeen, he had pimples on his face, the down on his upper lip already was dark–these meant he was no longer a boy. He was growing into a man––he was a man. • 3. Notes On Leadership And Management 1. Leadership and Management Leadership and management are 2 major concepts in the world of business and most likely to be confused with each others. This assignment tries to determine if there are any differences between the 2 concepts. 1.1 Leadership Definition Leadership has many different definitions, however, leadership in management is defined as the leader is the person who others are following, and to have followers it's a process that needs an impact of that person on others to follow him. (Yuki, 1989) Leadership is also believed to be a form of social interaction process that happen among members of a team or a group, and leadership is the skill that person can lead the followers in most efficient way. There has always been the...show more content... (Katter, 2001) Leaders are also considered to be playing an essential rule in any organization; they are the passion and the creativity they can introduce to the workers within organization. Leaders are gifted with flexibility, innovation, inspiration, courageous and independence. Managers on the other hands are the mind, the rational and persistence, analytical, authoritiv and stabilizing. (Capowski, 1994) The main question here still is what is the difference between management and leadership? The major difference between managers and leaders is the way they motivate their staff. The style of their role wither they are managing a group or leading a team to succeed and achieve the set goals. Managers are not necessary leaders and on the other hand leaders do not need to be managers to lead others to achieve goals and targets. However, some people can be both if they are assigned as mangers and gifted with the leadership skills, qualities and personality to be able to have others following them. 1.3 Management Theories There are 4 main models of management that theories and approaches adopt in the style of management. ; The Classical Management Theory, Human Relations Theory, Neo–Human relation theory and System Theory. Classical Management model takes place usually in a very structured workplace with prescribed roles. These roles are assigned to each Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Essay on A Literacy Event that Changed my Life A Literacy Event that Changed my Life All my life I have been a lazy person, doing just enough to get by. Most of the time, in high school, I was content with just a "C". The only time I wasn't, was if it was a class I liked, and I paid attention to. If this was the case, I could have received a 99% on a test and been dissatisfied. But, for the rest of my classes, which were most of my classes, that I didn't like, I never paid attention to or did homework, and I still managed to do well on tests. So basically I didn't do anything except take tests and I still got satisfactory grades. In school I was so lazy that there could have been a project due worth about 20% of the final grade and I still wouldn't do it. Once in my 11th...show more content... Regardless, I received a zero on this project, thus failing that marking period. Since Jr. High I haven't read a single book that was assigned to me in English class, hence my poor English grades. In fact, when my marks started to improve in English my GPA soared from a 2.1 to a 3.0. When my marks finally improved is when I started getting along with my English teacher. I never got along with any of my English teachers for some unknown reason. Maybe because I hardly did any work at all. I have to thank the book, The Great Gatsby for helping me find my prolonged love for my English teacher, and every English teacher since. Out of pure coincidence, as soon as I read my first assigned book, I suddenly got along with my teacher. I read the book for no reason other then that I finally thought that a book that was assigned, sounded interesting. And sure enough I was right. I read the book and enjoyed it. Before I read this book, the teacher and I were really at each others throats, literally. I found out from a fellow student that overheard her talking about me and she said that she would love to have the chance to knock me out. I laughed at the thought, since she did weigh about 100lbs and was over 60. I am very thankful for The Great Gatsby, and thankful that I read it. Since reading the book, I have joined a book club and bought a few books, and am in the process of reading one right now. A lot of things changed Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Marginalizing Yunior's Footnotes power of the fukГє, distinguishes his narrative from the profound precision that is typically applied to history. This can be seen when Yunior rejects the supposed objectivity of history by questioning, "Where in coГ±azo do you think the so–called cure of the Kennedys comes from? How about Vietnam? Why do you think the greatest power in the world lost its first war to a Third World country like Vietnam?" (4) In this case, objective facts would be useless; without being applied to the context of a narrative, facts possess no meaning. Rather, Yunior's employment of the fukГє enables the reader to imagine links that were formerly unseen. As a result, Yunior's manipulation on hearsay disfigures the authoritative preference of fact over fiction, challenging the nature of objectivity that is...show more content... First, imitating the literal separation of the marginalized text from the content of the body, Yunior undoes the authority that Trujillo wrongfully gained through suppressing others by making him the subject of a majority of the novel's footnotes. In doing so, Yunior establishes a reversal of roles between Trujillo and the marginalized people of the Dominican Republic. In addition, Yunior's inclusion of footnotes creates a double narrative containing the contesting authorial voices that are found within the margins and in the main text. In addition to asserting the dangers of a single voice, Yunior's use of footnotes enable him to neatly intertwine the historical facts of the Trujillo's dictatorship with the fictional narrative of the Cabral family. This nuance between history and narrative obscures the line between fact and fiction and allows Yunior to undermine the authority associated with history's characteristics of being linear, singular, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Trade School Vs. College Essay Trade School vs. College People are told from a young age that the only way to lead a successful life is to go to college. Although there is no denying of the economic advantage post secondary learning can provide for a student, college isn't necessarily the only available option. Options like trade school or vocational training are other reasonable choices. However, trade school is not seen as legitimate as a traditional four year college, and a trade school student is not seen as having a secure future. The majority of people fail to realize there are hundreds of well paying employment opportunities that do not require the time, money, and effort needed to get a college degree. Not only does the negative perception of trade school hurt the futures of students, it ultimately hurts the nation's economy. In order to eliminate the stigma surrounding non traditional schools, students and parents should be exposed to trade schools and the benefits of pursuing a vocational career. Trade schools, vocational schools, and technical schools are all educational institutions that teach skills related to a specific job (Hamm). Some schools provide education as that provided at other colleges and universities. Many schools specialize in particular lines of work that range from broadcasting to beauty. The skills acquired in trade schools are sometimes referred to as middle skills and are seeked out by employers and jobs that require more education than a high school diploma, but less Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. In his essay Consider the Lobster, it's apparent what David Foster Wallace is trying to tell his audience: we should really think about the lobster's point of view before cooking and eating it. Wallace uses multiple rhetorical strategies to get his point across, including pathos and ethos. His essay is very good in how it gets its point across, and how it forces even the largest lobster consumers to truly contemplate how the lobster might react being boiled alive. It brings up many controversial topics of animal rights that many people tend to avoid, especially people who are major carnivores. Wallace's use of rhetorical strategies really gets the reader thinking, and thoroughly captures the argument of many vegetarians against the consumption of animals. Wallace captures the use of pathos in his essay and uses it in a way that is incredibly convincing to the reader. For example, he compares the Maine Lobster Festival to how a Nebraska Beef Festival could be, stating, "at which part of the festivities is watching trucks pull up and the live cattle get driven down the ramp and slaughtered right there..." (Wallace 700). Playing off of people's natural tendency to feel bad for the cattle, he shows that the killing of lobster is, in reality, no different than the killing of cattle, but we treat it much differently. We tend to think that lobsters are different because they are less human than cows are, and, maybe to make us feel better about our senseless killing of an animal, Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Were all aware of who the top players are and who's projected to carry the torch that the last generation of stars will leave behind but there are players worth mentioning who might not have received the press that they deserve. In this year's draft, the next agent zero or even the next Paul Millsap was picked late in the first round or even the second. • 12. Essay on Comparing Positive and Natural Law Comparing Positive and Natural Law "Do what you believe is right." This is a phrase common to us all, brought to our attention by parents, reinforced by teachers, and preached by leaders. But how does one define what is right? Is it what we believe in our hearts, or is it what we know is acceptable? This is a predominant dilemma that can be traced throughout society, and is the main focal point of Sophocles' play Antigone. Written in 441 B.C., Antigone is one of the earliest records of the conflict between Natural law and Positive law. Sophocles deftly exposes these two philosophical standpoints and their respective moral and political aspects by way of the two main characters, Antgone and Kreon. Antigone is a champion of Natural...show more content... This position becomes apparent when he utters the lines "...if I see disaster marching against our citizens... I shall not befriend the enemy of this land. For the state is safety. When she is steady, then we can steer. Then we can love" (224–229). This ultimately sums up the Positive law belief that society always comes before self, that once the society is safe, then you are permitted to allow for yourself. With each philosophy located at opposite ends of the social spectrum, a dilemma is unavoidable when the two face each other. This is the backbone for the entire plot of Antigone. On one side is Antigone, who pursues her self–righteous beliefs whole heartedly and without question. On the other side is Kreon, who acts in response to what he believes is best for the society. Both characters are justified in their behavior. It is their motives that set them apart from each other. Antigone knows that she will suffer personal anguish if she does not carry out her actions. "But if I had let my own brother stay unburied I would have suffered all the pain I do not feel now. And if you decide what I did was foolish, you may be fool enough to convict me" (572–574). She acts in her own personal interest, concerned for her well–being. She believes that her motive is one that should be accepted, that love for a brother could never be viewed as foolish. Kreon, on the other hand, makes his decisions as a king rather then an uncle. He Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Jose Garcia Villa's Footnote To Youth The short story "Footnotes to Youth", written by Filipino writer Jose Garcia Villa, talks about a young boy at the age of seventeen Dodong, who was initially very enthusiastic about life, but then the obstacles and tribulations of life got the best of him and made him became grim about life. This goes for same for his wife Teang, who carried the burden of taking care of six children and doing household chores, and as a result she became shapeless and thin. Both of their lives became miserable after having children despite their young age. By reading the literary text "Footnotes to Youth", it is found that the theory of psychoanalysis is applied in the story. Through the dreams and the thoughts of the character, it is shown that the characters of the story had inner feelings within them....show more content... He thought that life had been made ugly for him after his marriage to Teang. Teang felt the same, as she wished that she was not married, or at least that she had no children. There is also denial when Blas told his father, Dodong, about his proposal to Tona. Dodong couldn't believe that his son was doing the same thing as he did eighteen years ago. However, he could not do anything but to give his blessings to his son reluctantly and hoped that he would able to go through th tribulation of life. There is also evidence of archetypes, an easily recognizable role in literature and drama. It is found that one character can have more than one archetype, as long they meet the requirements. In the short story "Footnotes to Youth", it is discovered that Teang was the anima, or the ideazed female in Dodong's mind, as he constantly dreamt of her day and night. He desired her, and wanted to marry her. Tona was the anima in Blas' mind as well. The statement he gave to his father, Dodong, that he "wanted" her, suggested that he had a sense of possessiveness within Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Essay on Colonial Rule in Africa The African continent is one of the biggest land masses on the planet. With its massive population, tremendous natural resources, and rich cultural history, one has to wonder why any country in the continent holds a third world status. The amount of corruption and poverty within many states in Africa is astounding, and in order to unearth the reasons for the state of many African nations today one must go back to the late nineteenth century to when Africa was partitioned by the major European powers of the time. By drawing arbitrary lines on a map of Africa, the western powers effectively changed the course of African history and set the stage for intense exploitation and domination of the African people. One could argue that the western...show more content... With the transition being made from human trafficking to natural products, the wars and raids fought to gain slaves had ceased, thus ushering a new era of peace and stability. Consequently, the switch to natural products connected them to the world market, bringing in capitalism and spreading the wealth throughout some of the rural areas. With their newfound peace and economic wealth, many African states were in a position to set up legitimate governments and write their own constitution. For instance, the Fante Confederation in Ghana in 1868 had written a constitution stating how the upper offices were to be run, established legislative, executive and judicial branches, and even wrote provisions for the development for roads, education, and their natural resources. There was also the Egba Board of Management in Nigeria in 1865, and the Kingdom of Grebo in Liberia, all of them experimenting with constitution and self rule. The advancements the African population had made was done in vain, becuase in November 1884, every single Western nation met in Berlin except for Switzerland and the United States for a conference under the leadership of the German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck. Not a single African ruler was present, and it was here that various European nations staked their claim on the dark continent, and did so Get more content on HelpWriting.net

We've been together for three months now. I can say that her family belongs to upper–middle class–her father is working for the United Nations, earning USD8000 per month and her mother works as a tutor for toddlers. She was actually my close friend before we dated. Before we became couple last April, I actually observed (and from her friends' stories) that she was really really 'thrifty' with her money. Her friends would usually tease her because she would usually opt to eat her own baon whenever they eat in restaurants in Katipunan instead of ordering food. Why did I judge her as being cheap and indecent just because she buys her pants in Divisoria? Why should I be angry about her not taking me to dinner? We are not rich but my mom would usually do anything to provide for what we need and want. She feels hurt whenever she can't give what we are asking for. Unlike her, I came from a family of politicians. My lolo has served our province for quite some time as a governor. My mom was a board member for two terms. We grew up entertaining guests and serving them food while they wait for Mama to attend to their concerns. Unlike her, money is not my priority. I mean, yes it's nice to save but not to the extent that I will exclude myself from enjoying life and make myself look woe. This is something really different with her upbringing. Maybe, I was irritated with her simply because she is different. She's living an independent life while I want to depend on her. I realized maybe it has something to do with my expectations. I expect her to be generous to me, to take good care of me because those are my ideals for a partner. Economically speaking, they are rich than my family. They Get more content on HelpWriting.net
