Proposal Essay On Pollution
Proposal Essay Suneet Mahajan
Western Governors University
WGU Student ID #000704510
Pollution refers to impurity into the environment of particles which has harmful effect on health.
There are many forms of pollution, like air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution which impact
health and environment. High air pollution level is responsible for health issues in Delhi. Over the
last few years, the level of pollution has changed significantly in India and specifically in
Delhi.Due to increased traffic on roads, traffic movement is slow which forces vehicles to move in
lower speed which reduces efficiency and emission level increases. Another cause of vehicular
pollution is increase in number of diesel vehicles, which is also a major contributor to air pollution.
According to Department of Transport of Delhi, there are more than 7.6 million vehicles on
National Capital region and which grows at a target rate of 14% per annum. Due to air pollution
people are suffering from Lung and heart disease. In addition to 7.6 million registered vehicles of
Delhi and equal number of vehicles enter Delhi everyday which add to air pollution. In order to
control Vehicular pollution, we have to adopt and implement stringent steps to reduce the vehicular
pollution. The feasible solutions to control pollution is to reduce the number of vehicles on roads
by introducing concept of odd/even rule for playing the vehicles, ban on registration of diesel cars
which is major source of vehicular pollution, introduction of CNG (Combined National GAS) for
taxis coming in delhi these steps will reduce vehicular pollution and help people to breath clean air.
In order to reduce the congestion of road, the proposal is to apply odd/even rule for playing the
vehicles wherein vehicles with odd number registration plates will run on odd dates and vehicles
with even number registration plates will run on Even dates. This will be applicable between 8
AM to 8 PM and will result into challan but no compounding of Vehicles. This rule will be
applicable to all the government Vehicles and vehicles coming out of Delhi. There will be
exemption for CNG Cars, cars driven by women with kids, President of India Vehicles, Prime
minister and

Health Care Proposal Essay
My New Proposal for a New System Jamelia Hamilton Axia College of University of Phoenix
Health care is one of the most important benefits to the people of the United States. Everybody
needs health care and some people need more medical attention than others and some people do
not even need health care, except for their yearly exams. Today health care has many strengths,
weaknesses, and challenges. I have come up with a new exam that will hopefully benefit
everybody in some way. My vision for the new health care system is to one, make it more
affordable for everybody in the United States. Two, to make sure that everybody receives the
medical attention they need and deserve. The new health care plan I have come up with is called,

Health care plan 1a would be the cheapest plan and would benefit most people. Now the health care
plans cost would go up each plan. The more on the plan, the more you pay. It is the same way with
the family plan. My health care proposal also really benefits elders. Today, elders have a really
hard time paying for health care when they are on a fixed income. I believe that health care
should a lot cheaper for elders. I believe that elders should receive discounts on their prescriptions
and this proposal would take care of that. This health care proposal would make health care
cheaper for elders by reducing the cost of prescriptions and doctor visits. This health care plan also
eliminates health care for the people who do not need and gives medical attention to the ones who
do need it. For example, the people who have long–term illnesses, but cannot pay for it because they
cannot afford it or it is not in their current health care plan. The people who do have long–term
illnesses in their health care plan, but do have a long–term illness would no longer have to pay for it,
unless they became ill. This would help people realize what they are paying for and what they are
not paying for. This proposal also proposes that kids who are suffering from long–term illnesses get
paid so much money a year for health care expenses, well their parents or guardians would receive
the money and the money could be used for bills or health

Argumentative Essay On Plastic Bags
The Plastic Bag Takeover As the United States deals with the overwhelming amounts of waste
building up, Nitin et al explain that "plastics take anywhere from 15 to 1000 years to biodegrade"
once they are discarded (Nitin). Changes in recycling methods can no longer keep up with the
exorbitant amount of waste produced in the United States. This is why some states choose to take
their initiative one step further by placing either fees or a ban on the use of plastic bags. Due to the
enormous waste the United States produces on a daily basis and the negative outcomes of this trash
including adverse health effects, harmful impacts on nature, and the exponential piling of trash in
landfills, the US government should ban plastic bags.
When citizens discard plastic bags in the outdoors, they unknowingly contribute to the spreading of
powerful illnesses. Through the pooling of rainwater, thrown away bags contribute to the
transmission of mosquito born illnesses, such as Malaria (Trilling). Given the wet, warm
environment that a littered plastic bag provides, mosquitoes receive the ideal setting they need to
breed. With increased mosquito breeding, American's are left more susceptible to harmful illnesses.
One simple way to reduce the littering of plastic bags, is to make plastic bags harder to access in the
first place. Additionally, the creation of plastic bags commonly involves many harmful chemicals
that in turn play a role in causing detrimental health effects and conditions. Substances in plastic
products designed to enhance performance, and make them desirable to consumers, often contain
harmful ingredients (Ecology Center). Plastic bags are a commonly overlooked destructive item
that might contribute to health problems. When foods are packaged alongside plastic, "chemicals
migrate from the plastic packaging to the foods," one example being the chemical Polyethylene, a
substance suspected to be a carcinogen (Ecology Center). The government has a duty to protect its
citizens and one form of protection is keeping people away from especially harmful chemicals and
substances. The only way to ensure citizens do not come into contact with these harmful substances
on a daily basis through plastic bags is to ban them

A Modest Proposal Argument Analysis
"A Modest Proposal" Summary and Argument Analysis "A Modest Proposal" by Jonathan Swift
is a satiric piece that, essentially, provides a solution to prevent that the children of the poor
become a burden on the parents or the Country of Ireland. If his proposal is put to action, at exactly
the age of one, children instead of being a drag will contribute and benefit the public good. Their
contributions include, but are not limited to, feeding and clothing thousands of people and,
furthermore, preventing abortions and shame (Swift 5). His easy and cheap solution is to fatten up
100,000 poor children and sell them as a culinary delicacy to those who are wealthy and
economically established. The reasons supporting his argument can be found in paragraphs

Licensing for personal trainers: legitimizing the profession. "In its present form, personal training
only dates back a few decades, yet it is among the fastest growing professions in the U.S." (Holt). In
the 80's and 90's personal trainers were predominantly heavy lifters who looked like they could soon
compete in a bodybuilding contest. The muscular physique automatically qualified each of them as
"guru" in the fitness world and helped quickly build a clientele. Towards the late–90's, the situation
started to change: gyms became less and less of an intimidating environment for a wide category of
people with no desire to become "huge." Personal trainers of a new generation expanded their
specialization to weight loss, cardio vascular...show more content...
You can easily hurt a client or worsen an existing condition by using inappropriate exercising
techniques and approaches. Once I've seen a trainer who made his new client with swayback
(lordosis) do multiple low back exercises with significant weight. With such a spine condition you
have to be extremely careful when perform any activity involving low back and must primarily
focus on strengthening your abdominal muscles and back of the thighs in order to balance the
inward curvature of spine. As a result of that unconsidered workout the client had extreme back
pains and decided to stop training. Not only this could be prevented if a trainer had more
knowledge about lordosis (which is pretty easy to determine), but the client would be able to
improve his back condition with appropriate exercise routine. This example shows that some
certification organizations fail to provide the market with well–qualified and knowledgeable
professionals. They are not regulated by state and often offer take–home or on–online tests which
objectivity is questionable. Licensing, on the other side, means a nationally standardized test and
leaves no place for cheating. It is interesting to note that Howard makes a comparison between
personal trainers and other health professionals like "Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses,
Physical Therapists and Registered Dietitians" who

A Proposal to Ban Smoking in Public Areas Essay
A Proposal to Ban Smoking in Public Areas
Every year, there are over 400,000 smoking–related deaths in the United States. A large percentage
of these are due to lung cancer, whose leading cause is smoking. However, not all deaths are
smokers themselves. Anyone in the vicinity can fall victim to second hand smoke. These people,
through no action of their own, can have their lives threatened.
This problem, which plagues all Americans, should have action taken on a local scale to help protect
the health of the public. The Ames City Council is in the process of debating a city ordanince which
whould ban smoking in all public places, with the exception of those designated as "smokng areas".
A public place shall be defined by Subsection...show more content...
Keep in mind, these people don?t smoke themselves, but they are still put at risk by the actions of
others. The Saskatchewan Instite?s webpage goes on to state that half of all children exposed to
second–hand smoke are exposed at home. While this is an important fact, its importance lies in
opposite, half are exposed in places other than at home. In America 25,000 people are killed every
year in car accidents, while 53,000 die from second–hand smoke (from Office on Smoking and
Health, Center for Disease Control and Prevention, http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/sgr/sgr_1988/).
Action must be taken to protect these people from a threat over which they have no control.
In addition to statistics, a situation to illustrate the necessity for this proposal can be considered.
Imagine a family, Mom, Dad, and their three children, are going out to eat in a nice restaurant for
Mom?s birthday. When the waitress asks if they?d like smoking or non–smoking, they Dad requests
non, because he is concerned about his family?s health. However, the truth about this decision is that
in reality, just being in the restaurant increases the threats to their family.
Those who are opposed to this ban contend that it will hurt economic prosperity of their bars/taverns
/clubs/restaurents, which are the areas that would be most effected by this ordanence. However,
according to a recent study conducted by the Substance Abuse Policy Research Program in New
York, this is not the case. Quite the

Analysis Of A Modest Proposal
Political Criticism Essay– "A Modest Proposal"
In Ireland in 1729 things were not going so well. The Catholics are not able to vote, marry a
Protestant, join the forced army, or bare arms. The proposal was published in 1729. The Modest
Proposal is an Juvenalian essay written by, Jonathan Swift. The Modest Proposal is summed up
to be about preventing the poor people from being a Burthen to their parents or country. The tone
of the story is very ironic. Times were very different back then and how they are now. Back in the
1700s people were very depressed, and didn't care for their children. Loving your children wasn't a
decision for anyone. Jonathan was very sarcastic, but people in his decade were not that way. They
believed everyone should be treated the same, and everyone should be serious and shouldn't play
around. Catholics are forced to divide properties among all male heirs and over time their land
shrink into tiny plots. Jonathan Swift was a sharp satire of the Irish predicament, suggesting the rich
should eat the children of the poor, to the benefit of both parties. Jonathan also led economic
criticism from 1713–1745. (Historical Summary.) In the essay "A Modest Proposal" Jonathan Swift
challenges the status quo of the time and place which is written by suggesting selling babies, eating
babies, and real solutions.
Jonathan also expresses sympathy in the story because he doesn't agree with aborting babies.
Jonathan points out that the infants are too young to steal, and unfit for any employment. They
also believe that if they are not able to sell the babies and children, they should eat the infants
when they reach the age of one year. Children of the poor could be sold to the meat market at the
age of one. It also spared families the expenses of childbearing while providing them with a little
extra income, and contributing to the overall economic well being of the nation. The author also
gives specific details about the children like their height, weight, and price. (Jonathan Swift) I don't
believe that they should be able to sell their children for money, or sell them for food. If you did not
want children don't have them, and don't sell them for food. I also think it is disrespectful how other

Fallacies And Unusual Evidence
Many people have either engaged in an argument that seemed unsolvable or witnessed such an
argument between friends and family members.
1) Consider one of these arguments you have either experienced or witnessed, and then identify the
fallacies that were expressed during this discussion or argument. Note how the fallacies prevented
the discussion from being resolved.
2) What did you learn about fallacies from this experience that you can apply to your proposal
essay? How might fallacies like these be avoided in proposal writing.
1) In my department at work, we could come in wearing business casual attire. The argument to have
our department wear uniforms started when, the new CEO of the hospital arrived and started to see
that people were dressed inappropriately for the work environment, plus rumors of people not
dressing properly throughout the hospital. At first our director did a meeting were she clearly stated
that we needed to dress appropriately. Since that did not work and the new administration started to
notice that not only our department but all departments were having the same issue, that's when the
situation became more complicated. Despite the efforts that all the directors and managers did it was
not enough for the CEO. He thought it was unprofessional for hospital staff to be working without
uniforms. He had witnessed maybe some people but not the entire hospital. When I say the entire

Proposal Essay Depression
Depression can move in on a person quickly or creep in like a fog. It can be a visceral experience,
like a blow to the gut or a heavy burden suddenly pressing down on one's shoulders.
It can affect one's experience of the world: if it's sunny outside, somehow it seems dull and cold; if
it's gray, the gray gets heavier.
Have you ever been depressed? How do you stand against it; how do you push back the gray veil?
How do you cope with depression and even work to break out of it?
First, it's important to know the difference between "the winter blues," an occasional down day, a
week when you're just feeling off, and longer–lasting, biologically based depression.
"Depression is a 'whole body' illness, involving your thoughts, mood and...show more content...
I do recommend anything by Bill Withers, especially the soulful "Lean on Me" ("Sometimes in our
lives, we all have pain, we all have sorrow, but if we are wise, we know that there's always
tomorrow...").
One song that always cheers me is Dobie Gray's "Drift Away" ("And when I'm feeling blue, a
guitar's comin' through to sooth me. Thanks for the joy that you've given me..."). Sometimes music
can be used as a catalyst, something through which to channel your anger (depression can stem from
deep anger [McCrary 1998]) and pain. For that, I recommend Mary J. Blige's "No
More Cryin'" from her The Breakthrough album (2005). Other songs I recommend from that
album are "Take Me As I Am" and "Good Woman Down." Finally, because depression can also stem
from fear, I recommend listening to "Mindkiller," by Adam Freeland off of his Now and
Them album (2004). Blast this song and remind yourself that, as the lyrics say, "Fear is the mind
killer." Going for a drive in your car can also be a distraction from the depression, as long as you
feel safe in handling the vehicle. You can take your music with you, head east, then turn back
toward the Front Range to give yourself full view of the area's jagged, snow–covered peaks. Or
Asmus, page 3 drive right up into the mountains, allowing the music to serve as a soundtrack for
each turn in the road. When you break over the top of a hill and have a view of the valley below, use
this as a metaphor for your depression–that you

Argumentative Essay: Gun Control Proposal
Gun Control Proposal Gun control is not one issue, but many. To most people gun control is an
issue of crime and to others it is simply a rights issue. Gun control is a safety issue, an education
issue, and a racial issue. With all of these issues there are people who want more gun control and
those who want less. On either side of these issues opinions range from average to severe. Over the
past five years, lawmakers have initiated more than 100 gun control proposals in Congress, since
Gifford's and 18 other people were shot in Tucson, Arizona in January 2011. Not one of them has
been passed. Very of these proposals made it to the Senate. The Senate is set to vote on four more.
The Democratic Party has proposed two. The first would be to ban any suspected terrorists from
being able to purchase a gun. The second proposal would be to expand background checks. Time and
time again the nation has witnessed moments of silence for victims of terror that has been caused by
gun violence. More often than not those moments are followed by months of silence due to inaction
which is clearly inexcusable. After every mass shooting the Democrats have attempted to revive the
gun control issue by introducing new legislation. Approximately two weeks...show more content...

Proposal on Abortion
It is saddening to see humans of the female gender, who find themselves in a situation that requires
introducing a new life into the world; to abort such a precious gift. Many may wonder how these
poor, innocent, unborn children are then discarded after the abortion procedure. One cannot fathom
the reason of these gruesome murders that happens within these medical facilities. Babies are
disposed in the red waste bins of these facilities, and later incinerated. Some may either be flushed
down garbage disposals or even be sold off for research purposes. The issue of abortion is not just a
social one, but also a human rights issue among the unborn children. I believe if the human rights of
these children has been violated, then...show more content...
Most of these procedures are very effective. They could prevent pregnancy stronger than an average
birth control pill. I find this an effective method to solve this issue of abortion across the nation.
Although it may be a costly medical procedure, it is better off than killing theses innocent little souls
who have yet to make it in this world. I think that one should consider not having children for a
lifetime, if the thought of abortion ever crosses their minds.
This process has proven effective with success rates if sought for a well–trained medical practitioner.
Women can experience the freedom to engage in sexual activities normally, without the concerns of
possible pregnancies. One downside of this procedure is that it does not protect one from sexually
transmitted diseases. Abortion rates can possibly decrease if more women who are not interested in
having children in the future, seek medical advice or tubal ligation.
Another way that I believe can be a possible way to prevent this issue, is for women to avoid
males. Of course, we all have something that may drive us to seek a partner. Or maybe some of
us is religious enough to believe that God made man and women for a reason. If a woman wishes
to seek a man to marry, she indeed must provide children if he pleases. But how must a woman
please a man with a child of their own, if she does not wish to bear children? Well, that seems
almost like an impossible task when married. A man could either seek

Do you know the similarities and differences between a funding proposal and a research proposal?
According to the website learnerassociates.net/proposal, writing a funding proposal was created to
help empower people to be successful in gaining funds for projects that provide worthwhile social
service. Aresearch proposal considers your overall topic ideas, your research question, your
research process, and your sources and scaffolds what the next steps will be for the project. There
are similarities and differences between writing a funding proposal and a research proposal.
A research proposal is most often written by scholars seeking grant funding for a research project or
it's the first step in getting approval to write a doctoral dissertation. Even if this is just a course
assignment, the introduction is the initial pitch of an idea or a thorough examination of the
significance of a research problem. After reading the introduction, readers should not only
understand what is being proposed. Most proposals do not include an abstract before the
introduction. Background and Significance, this section can be melded into your introduction or
you can create a separate section to help with the organization and narrative flow of your proposal.
This is where you explain the context of your proposal and describe in detail why it's important.
Approach writing this section with the thought that you can't assume your readers will know as
much about the research problem as you do. Note

Global Climate Change : A Proposal Argument
Global Climate Change: A Proposal Argument
Statement of the Problem
Climate change is not a new concept. It has been mostly referred to as global warming in the past.
As much as people would like to file this issue away as something to deal with at a later date, it
simply cannot wait. This problem we face is costing us billions of dollars, forests and wildlife are
being eliminated, and people are dying. Starting to sound like a big deal, right? Future generations
will be affected the most. People who do not even exist will have to pay for what we, all people,
have done to this earth. To begin to make changes, one must realize the severity of the issue. Bill
Mckibben, author of "Recalculating the Climate Math," conveys that "We've already raised the
world's temperature by one degree–enough to melt almost half the ice in the Arctic, kill off huge
swaths of the world's coral, and unleash lethal floods and drought. July and August tied for the
hottest months ever recorded on our planet, and scientists think they were almost certainly the
hottest in the history of human civilization" (Page 3 of 5). Global climate change is a serious problem
because it increases natural disasters and is the cause of extreme weather.
First, global climate change is a serious problem because it increases natural disasters. If you have
ever watched the news in your lifetime, you know that this issue is becoming more frequent and
worse over time. "Globally, the number of reported weather–related

Summary Of A Modest Proposal By Jonathan Swift
With his pamphlet, Jonathan Swift addresses the problem of the poor, the needy, and how they
should be taken care of in a sarcastic and unimaginable way. He writes, "A Modest Proposal: For
Preventing the Children of Poor People in Ireland, from Being a Burden on Their Parents or
Country, and for Making Them Beneficial to the Public" to address the problem of how the poor are
being treated. Swift is a political journalist, clergyman in the Angelical Church, and Dean of St.

proposes such an outrageous proposal appalling everyone who reads his pamphlet. However, he
takes his satire too far and ends up showing his lack of ethos and appeal to moralistic logic
creating gaps in his argument that keep his argument from reaching its purpose and influencing
the majority of his audience. Swift's over use of sarcasm shows his lack of credibility to those
parties he insults. Even though his argument is satirical, he only shows one side of logic
disregarding moral logic that society enforces leading his audience to focus more on how he
could even propose such an idea than how they are to help the poor. Moreover, Swift never
directs his audience on what to do next about the situation of the poor and instead uses his satire to
show what should not be done leaving his audience with no clue what to do next. However, Swift's
article presented a solid claim in pathos centered on his shocking satire and how to deal with the
poor and used the appeal of satire to influence his readers to look into the situation and how to help

Proposal Argument Essay

  • 1. Proposal Essay On Pollution Proposal Essay Suneet Mahajan Western Governors University WGU Student ID #000704510 Pollution refers to impurity into the environment of particles which has harmful effect on health. There are many forms of pollution, like air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution which impact health and environment. High air pollution level is responsible for health issues in Delhi. Over the last few years, the level of pollution has changed significantly in India and specifically in Delhi.Due to increased traffic on roads, traffic movement is slow which forces vehicles to move in lower speed which reduces efficiency and emission level increases. Another cause of vehicular pollution is increase in number of diesel vehicles, which is also a major contributor to air pollution. According to Department of Transport of Delhi, there are more than 7.6 million vehicles on National Capital region and which grows at a target rate of 14% per annum. Due to air pollution people are suffering from Lung and heart disease. In addition to 7.6 million registered vehicles of Delhi and equal number of vehicles enter Delhi everyday which add to air pollution. In order to control Vehicular pollution, we have to adopt and implement stringent steps to reduce the vehicular pollution. The feasible solutions to control pollution is to reduce the number of vehicles on roads by introducing concept of odd/even rule for playing the vehicles, ban on registration of diesel cars which is major source of vehicular pollution, introduction of CNG (Combined National GAS) for taxis coming in delhi these steps will reduce vehicular pollution and help people to breath clean air. In order to reduce the congestion of road, the proposal is to apply odd/even rule for playing the vehicles wherein vehicles with odd number registration plates will run on odd dates and vehicles with even number registration plates will run on Even dates. This will be applicable between 8 AM to 8 PM and will result into challan but no compounding of Vehicles. This rule will be applicable to all the government Vehicles and vehicles coming out of Delhi. There will be exemption for CNG Cars, cars driven by women with kids, President of India Vehicles, Prime minister and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Health Care Proposal Essay My New Proposal for a New System Jamelia Hamilton Axia College of University of Phoenix Health care is one of the most important benefits to the people of the United States. Everybody needs health care and some people need more medical attention than others and some people do not even need health care, except for their yearly exams. Today health care has many strengths, weaknesses, and challenges. I have come up with a new exam that will hopefully benefit everybody in some way. My vision for the new health care system is to one, make it more affordable for everybody in the United States. Two, to make sure that everybody receives the medical attention they need and deserve. The new health care plan I have come up with is called, ...show more content... Health care plan 1a would be the cheapest plan and would benefit most people. Now the health care plans cost would go up each plan. The more on the plan, the more you pay. It is the same way with the family plan. My health care proposal also really benefits elders. Today, elders have a really hard time paying for health care when they are on a fixed income. I believe that health care should a lot cheaper for elders. I believe that elders should receive discounts on their prescriptions and this proposal would take care of that. This health care proposal would make health care cheaper for elders by reducing the cost of prescriptions and doctor visits. This health care plan also eliminates health care for the people who do not need and gives medical attention to the ones who do need it. For example, the people who have long–term illnesses, but cannot pay for it because they cannot afford it or it is not in their current health care plan. The people who do have long–term illnesses in their health care plan, but do have a long–term illness would no longer have to pay for it, unless they became ill. This would help people realize what they are paying for and what they are not paying for. This proposal also proposes that kids who are suffering from long–term illnesses get paid so much money a year for health care expenses, well their parents or guardians would receive the money and the money could be used for bills or health Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Argumentative Essay On Plastic Bags The Plastic Bag Takeover As the United States deals with the overwhelming amounts of waste building up, Nitin et al explain that "plastics take anywhere from 15 to 1000 years to biodegrade" once they are discarded (Nitin). Changes in recycling methods can no longer keep up with the exorbitant amount of waste produced in the United States. This is why some states choose to take their initiative one step further by placing either fees or a ban on the use of plastic bags. Due to the enormous waste the United States produces on a daily basis and the negative outcomes of this trash including adverse health effects, harmful impacts on nature, and the exponential piling of trash in landfills, the US government should ban plastic bags. When citizens discard plastic bags in the outdoors, they unknowingly contribute to the spreading of powerful illnesses. Through the pooling of rainwater, thrown away bags contribute to the transmission of mosquito born illnesses, such as Malaria (Trilling). Given the wet, warm environment that a littered plastic bag provides, mosquitoes receive the ideal setting they need to breed. With increased mosquito breeding, American's are left more susceptible to harmful illnesses. One simple way to reduce the littering of plastic bags, is to make plastic bags harder to access in the first place. Additionally, the creation of plastic bags commonly involves many harmful chemicals that in turn play a role in causing detrimental health effects and conditions. Substances in plastic products designed to enhance performance, and make them desirable to consumers, often contain harmful ingredients (Ecology Center). Plastic bags are a commonly overlooked destructive item that might contribute to health problems. When foods are packaged alongside plastic, "chemicals migrate from the plastic packaging to the foods," one example being the chemical Polyethylene, a substance suspected to be a carcinogen (Ecology Center). The government has a duty to protect its citizens and one form of protection is keeping people away from especially harmful chemicals and substances. The only way to ensure citizens do not come into contact with these harmful substances on a daily basis through plastic bags is to ban them Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. A Modest Proposal Argument Analysis "A Modest Proposal" Summary and Argument Analysis "A Modest Proposal" by Jonathan Swift is a satiric piece that, essentially, provides a solution to prevent that the children of the poor become a burden on the parents or the Country of Ireland. If his proposal is put to action, at exactly the age of one, children instead of being a drag will contribute and benefit the public good. Their contributions include, but are not limited to, feeding and clothing thousands of people and, furthermore, preventing abortions and shame (Swift 5). His easy and cheap solution is to fatten up 100,000 poor children and sell them as a culinary delicacy to those who are wealthy and economically established. • 5. Proposal Argument Essay Licensing for personal trainers: legitimizing the profession. "In its present form, personal training only dates back a few decades, yet it is among the fastest growing professions in the U.S." (Holt). In the 80's and 90's personal trainers were predominantly heavy lifters who looked like they could soon compete in a bodybuilding contest. The muscular physique automatically qualified each of them as "guru" in the fitness world and helped quickly build a clientele. Towards the late–90's, the situation started to change: gyms became less and less of an intimidating environment for a wide category of people with no desire to become "huge." Personal trainers of a new generation expanded their specialization to weight loss, cardio vascular...show more content... You can easily hurt a client or worsen an existing condition by using inappropriate exercising techniques and approaches. Once I've seen a trainer who made his new client with swayback (lordosis) do multiple low back exercises with significant weight. With such a spine condition you have to be extremely careful when perform any activity involving low back and must primarily focus on strengthening your abdominal muscles and back of the thighs in order to balance the inward curvature of spine. As a result of that unconsidered workout the client had extreme back pains and decided to stop training. Not only this could be prevented if a trainer had more knowledge about lordosis (which is pretty easy to determine), but the client would be able to improve his back condition with appropriate exercise routine. This example shows that some certification organizations fail to provide the market with well–qualified and knowledgeable professionals. They are not regulated by state and often offer take–home or on–online tests which objectivity is questionable. Licensing, on the other side, means a nationally standardized test and leaves no place for cheating. It is interesting to note that Howard makes a comparison between personal trainers and other health professionals like "Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, Physical Therapists and Registered Dietitians" who Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. A Proposal to Ban Smoking in Public Areas Essay A Proposal to Ban Smoking in Public Areas Every year, there are over 400,000 smoking–related deaths in the United States. A large percentage of these are due to lung cancer, whose leading cause is smoking. However, not all deaths are smokers themselves. Anyone in the vicinity can fall victim to second hand smoke. These people, through no action of their own, can have their lives threatened. This problem, which plagues all Americans, should have action taken on a local scale to help protect the health of the public. The Ames City Council is in the process of debating a city ordanince which whould ban smoking in all public places, with the exception of those designated as "smokng areas". A public place shall be defined by Subsection...show more content... Keep in mind, these people don?t smoke themselves, but they are still put at risk by the actions of others. The Saskatchewan Instite?s webpage goes on to state that half of all children exposed to second–hand smoke are exposed at home. While this is an important fact, its importance lies in opposite, half are exposed in places other than at home. In America 25,000 people are killed every year in car accidents, while 53,000 die from second–hand smoke (from Office on Smoking and Health, Center for Disease Control and Prevention, http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/sgr/sgr_1988/). Action must be taken to protect these people from a threat over which they have no control. In addition to statistics, a situation to illustrate the necessity for this proposal can be considered. Imagine a family, Mom, Dad, and their three children, are going out to eat in a nice restaurant for Mom?s birthday. When the waitress asks if they?d like smoking or non–smoking, they Dad requests non, because he is concerned about his family?s health. However, the truth about this decision is that in reality, just being in the restaurant increases the threats to their family. Those who are opposed to this ban contend that it will hurt economic prosperity of their bars/taverns /clubs/restaurents, which are the areas that would be most effected by this ordanence. However, according to a recent study conducted by the Substance Abuse Policy Research Program in New York, this is not the case. Quite the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Analysis Of A Modest Proposal Political Criticism Essay– "A Modest Proposal" In Ireland in 1729 things were not going so well. The Catholics are not able to vote, marry a Protestant, join the forced army, or bare arms. The proposal was published in 1729. The Modest Proposal is an Juvenalian essay written by, Jonathan Swift. The Modest Proposal is summed up to be about preventing the poor people from being a Burthen to their parents or country. The tone of the story is very ironic. Times were very different back then and how they are now. Back in the 1700s people were very depressed, and didn't care for their children. Loving your children wasn't a decision for anyone. Jonathan was very sarcastic, but people in his decade were not that way. They believed everyone should be treated the same, and everyone should be serious and shouldn't play around. Catholics are forced to divide properties among all male heirs and over time their land shrink into tiny plots. Jonathan Swift was a sharp satire of the Irish predicament, suggesting the rich should eat the children of the poor, to the benefit of both parties. Jonathan also led economic criticism from 1713–1745. (Historical Summary.) In the essay "A Modest Proposal" Jonathan Swift challenges the status quo of the time and place which is written by suggesting selling babies, eating babies, and real solutions. Jonathan also expresses sympathy in the story because he doesn't agree with aborting babies. Jonathan points out that the infants are too young to steal, and unfit for any employment. They also believe that if they are not able to sell the babies and children, they should eat the infants when they reach the age of one year. Children of the poor could be sold to the meat market at the age of one. It also spared families the expenses of childbearing while providing them with a little extra income, and contributing to the overall economic well being of the nation. The author also gives specific details about the children like their height, weight, and price. (Jonathan Swift) I don't believe that they should be able to sell their children for money, or sell them for food. If you did not want children don't have them, and don't sell them for food. I also think it is disrespectful how other Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Fallacies And Unusual Evidence Many people have either engaged in an argument that seemed unsolvable or witnessed such an argument between friends and family members. 1) Consider one of these arguments you have either experienced or witnessed, and then identify the fallacies that were expressed during this discussion or argument. Note how the fallacies prevented the discussion from being resolved. 2) What did you learn about fallacies from this experience that you can apply to your proposal essay? How might fallacies like these be avoided in proposal writing. 1) In my department at work, we could come in wearing business casual attire. The argument to have our department wear uniforms started when, the new CEO of the hospital arrived and started to see that people were dressed inappropriately for the work environment, plus rumors of people not dressing properly throughout the hospital. At first our director did a meeting were she clearly stated that we needed to dress appropriately. Since that did not work and the new administration started to notice that not only our department but all departments were having the same issue, that's when the situation became more complicated. • 9. Proposal Essay Depression Depression can move in on a person quickly or creep in like a fog. It can be a visceral experience, like a blow to the gut or a heavy burden suddenly pressing down on one's shoulders. It can affect one's experience of the world: if it's sunny outside, somehow it seems dull and cold; if it's gray, the gray gets heavier. Have you ever been depressed? How do you stand against it; how do you push back the gray veil? How do you cope with depression and even work to break out of it? First, it's important to know the difference between "the winter blues," an occasional down day, a week when you're just feeling off, and longer–lasting, biologically based depression. "Depression is a 'whole body' illness, involving your thoughts, mood and...show more content... I do recommend anything by Bill Withers, especially the soulful "Lean on Me" ("Sometimes in our lives, we all have pain, we all have sorrow, but if we are wise, we know that there's always tomorrow..."). One song that always cheers me is Dobie Gray's "Drift Away" ("And when I'm feeling blue, a guitar's comin' through to sooth me. Thanks for the joy that you've given me..."). Sometimes music can be used as a catalyst, something through which to channel your anger (depression can stem from deep anger [McCrary 1998]) and pain. For that, I recommend Mary J. Blige's "No More Cryin'" from her The Breakthrough album (2005). Other songs I recommend from that album are "Take Me As I Am" and "Good Woman Down." Finally, because depression can also stem from fear, I recommend listening to "Mindkiller," by Adam Freeland off of his Now and Them album (2004). Blast this song and remind yourself that, as the lyrics say, "Fear is the mind killer." Going for a drive in your car can also be a distraction from the depression, as long as you feel safe in handling the vehicle. You can take your music with you, head east, then turn back toward the Front Range to give yourself full view of the area's jagged, snow–covered peaks. Or Asmus, page 3 drive right up into the mountains, allowing the music to serve as a soundtrack for each turn in the road. • 10. Argumentative Essay: Gun Control Proposal Gun Control Proposal Gun control is not one issue, but many. To most people gun control is an issue of crime and to others it is simply a rights issue. Gun control is a safety issue, an education issue, and a racial issue. With all of these issues there are people who want more gun control and those who want less. On either side of these issues opinions range from average to severe. Over the past five years, lawmakers have initiated more than 100 gun control proposals in Congress, since Gifford's and 18 other people were shot in Tucson, Arizona in January 2011. Not one of them has been passed. Very of these proposals made it to the Senate. The Senate is set to vote on four more. The Democratic Party has proposed two. The first would be to ban any suspected terrorists from being able to purchase a gun. The second proposal would be to expand background checks. Time and time again the nation has witnessed moments of silence for victims of terror that has been caused by gun violence. More often than not those moments are followed by months of silence due to inaction which is clearly inexcusable. After every mass shooting the Democrats have attempted to revive the gun control issue by introducing new legislation. Approximately two weeks...show more content... • 11. Proposal on Abortion It is saddening to see humans of the female gender, who find themselves in a situation that requires introducing a new life into the world; to abort such a precious gift. Many may wonder how these poor, innocent, unborn children are then discarded after the abortion procedure. One cannot fathom the reason of these gruesome murders that happens within these medical facilities. Babies are disposed in the red waste bins of these facilities, and later incinerated. Some may either be flushed down garbage disposals or even be sold off for research purposes. The issue of abortion is not just a social one, but also a human rights issue among the unborn children. I believe if the human rights of these children has been violated, then...show more content... Most of these procedures are very effective. They could prevent pregnancy stronger than an average birth control pill. I find this an effective method to solve this issue of abortion across the nation. Although it may be a costly medical procedure, it is better off than killing theses innocent little souls who have yet to make it in this world. I think that one should consider not having children for a lifetime, if the thought of abortion ever crosses their minds. This process has proven effective with success rates if sought for a well–trained medical practitioner. Women can experience the freedom to engage in sexual activities normally, without the concerns of possible pregnancies. One downside of this procedure is that it does not protect one from sexually transmitted diseases. Abortion rates can possibly decrease if more women who are not interested in having children in the future, seek medical advice or tubal ligation. Another way that I believe can be a possible way to prevent this issue, is for women to avoid males. Of course, we all have something that may drive us to seek a partner. Or maybe some of us is religious enough to believe that God made man and women for a reason. If a woman wishes to seek a man to marry, she indeed must provide children if he pleases. But how must a woman please a man with a child of their own, if she does not wish to bear children? Well, that seems almost like an impossible task when married. They all took one step back, they smartly raised their right arms with elbows at a 45 degree bend, their fingers joined and aligned to the tip of their cover rendering a salute. The platoon sergeant saluted the platoon back and returned his arm back to his side. In unison the platoon about faced and let out a thunderous "00H RAH!" In these circumstances they can move off base into a small apartment or they can reside in the barracks. But residing in the barracks requires them to pay a fee to live in those rooms. If all the singles start receiving BAH they too should be liable to pay for their own rooms. This will add revenue that in return can be used to beautify the surrounding areas of the barracks or can be used to help build the new floor plan for the future learning media center. The pay difference isn't the only problem that exists in the branches of the armed forces. In recent investigations contract marriages are increasing in the service. Contract marriages are fraud and chargeable under federal law. As per the current order on BAH, in order to receive the BAH one has to be me married. If one is married, in love, and truly with their significant other then there is nothing to worry about, but if someone gets married for the sole purpose of getting extra cash now this becomes a problem. A contract marriage is a scheme to gain monetary gains from the United States government. • 14. Gun Control Proposal Today, we have discussed the current situation of gun ownerships in the U.S., and the tragedies associated with the abuse of guns. My proposal is to pass more gun control laws or policies to ensure a safer country. Consequently, one possible solution could be a background checking system which will effectively limit the opportunity for criminals to own guns. Nevertheless, until today, Americans have not reached consensus on gun control laws. At the end of my speech, I won't urge you to sign on any "Gun Control Petitions". Swift is a political journalist, clergyman in the Angelical Church, and Dean of St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin who uses strong satire to communicate his opinions on how he disagrees with how the poor are being treated. Swift uses his satire when explaining his opinion that many of the rich only care that the poor are not being a burden on them and not...show more content... In his argument, he presents a great appeal to pathos when he shocks his entire audience, and proposes such an outrageous proposal appalling everyone who reads his pamphlet. However, he takes his satire too far and ends up showing his lack of ethos and appeal to moralistic logic creating gaps in his argument that keep his argument from reaching its purpose and influencing the majority of his audience. Swift's over use of sarcasm shows his lack of credibility to those parties he insults. Even though his argument is satirical, he only shows one side of logic disregarding moral logic that society enforces leading his audience to focus more on how he could even propose such an idea than how they are to help the poor. Moreover, Swift never directs his audience on what to do next about the situation of the poor and instead uses his satire to show what should not be done leaving his audience with no clue what to do next. However, Swift's article presented a solid claim in pathos centered on his shocking satire and how to deal with the poor and used the appeal of satire to influence his readers to look into the situation and how to help the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
