Unit 22: Describe different events and their characteristics in the hospitality industry
The Events industry opens a great employment opportunity for hospitality work. Due to the recent
growth in events the standards for what can be called a great event has been raised. Expectations
from people attending events such as weddings have been risen therefore the quality of the events
has become more elaborate and expensive.
As shown in the "annual income from events" table below; corporate events like conferences and
meetings bring in the most money. This is partly because they involve massive companies who are
able to pump tones of money into these events.
Sports and music events are expected to boom in 2015 and 2020 with stadium capacities growing
places such as the Olympic Stadium in London will need to fill them as rent on stadiums like these
are costly meaning more events not just sport events will be held in sports stadiums in order to
generate extra income.
Music events have over recent years become a place where young people love going. Event
organisers have realised this and have tailored there marketing to aim their music festivals and
concerts primarily at young people.
One type of event which is not on the list is celebratory events such as Weddings, Birthdays,
Christmas parties, etc. These type of events are expensive. For example the average cost for a
wedding in the UK is ВЈ21,000 each and that is not including the honeymoon or rings. With a venue

Essay about Plan and Organise an event
Plan and organise an event (320) The purpose and benefits of planning an event are to ensure the
event runs smoothly and to plan. In doing so you can ensure that time and cost are used effectively
by all the people involved in the event by communicating to those involved throughout the planning
stage. When planning an event I ensure I start the planning well in advance so that I have the
opportunity to be thorough thus ensuring the event runs smoothly and to plan. The role of the event
organiser is to manage the event. This will start at the planning stage which is the first part of
organising any event, through to the delivery of the event. At the planning stage I would need to set
out key objectives for the event. These can...show more content...
The types of problems that may occur when organising an event are: Venue is double booked–
when possible always have an alternative venue or an alternative date Resources not available – if
the resource was for example having a presentation using a power–point, I would always have
everything backed up in hand–outs to ensure the audience was still able to visualise what I was
going to show on a power–point presentation. There are different types of events such as: Meetings
– internal staff meetings at different levels depending on what is being discussed e.g. Project team
meeting to discuss how things are going or Trustee board meeting to discuss how the organisation as
a whole is operating Networking events – members of the company represent the bureau at an event
to publicise our services. These events are ideal for making new contacts, leading to new clients,
partners, and vendors Project Launches – publicise a new project by arranging an event and inviting
attendees as well as media to attend This would create a buzz around the release of the new project
and is a good way to get people excited and to generate media coverage Stakeholder Meetings –
meeting between funders (external to our business) to discuss progress and future funding Social
events – an event for all staff to attend such as a Christmas gathering. This would be an opportunity
for all staff, both paid and volunteer staff, to get together outside of

My Most Memorable Event Essay
My most memorable childhood event was when I was 15 years old. It was the Fourth of July. A
big family vacation a barbeque, over night stay and out of town trip to six flags, and I had a blast
the night before me, my mom, sisters and brother packed our bags to stay the night over my cousin
house in Goodlettsville ,Tennessee. She had the biggest house ever I thought it was a mansion; six
bedrooms two an half bath, a swimming pool, a game/movie room with a nice big kitchen. It was
something that I was not use, knowing that we stayed in a three bedroom based on an income
apartment on the East side of Nashville. Arriving to my cousin house i seen alot of my family
members even the ones that was from out of town. We greeted eachother and...show more content...
We finally came to a stop i was waken by my big brother hitting me with a water balloon. i was
pissed and i rush out the car to get him back but my mom was giving us that you better act like
you got some sence or we leaving look so we got under control. Once we got in the theme park the
fun had begun. There were so many rides big and small. Some of them i did'nt get to ride because
i was too short and they didnt believe my age. So i was mad and ready to home because i thought
it was unfair. So i decide to stay by the pool with my granny and Aunt Jackie. Which was fine with
me because they gave me money to play games and to get food. I remember almost collecting
fifthy dollars from them and that was alot of money to me. I listen to all the grown up gossip.
They were funny until they realized i was laughing with them. So they made me go play. I finally
seen my brother swimming so that was my plan in revenge i jump on him while he was under
water and didnt let him until i felt like he had enough. After while it turned into a game of marco
polo. Then it was time to go we got together we all gathered at the concenstation stand and got
food and drinks. We took a couple of pictures together and said our last goodbyes before we
hopped back on the road to go home. I had so much fun at that the sometimes i wish i could go
back to that age at times, but now i have my own kid to raise and have family vacation with. I just

The Event That Changed My Life Essay
Describe an event from your past and how it shaped you as a person.
I'm a victim, I thought. The books were closed. The papers were signed. It was official. The next
school year, I would enter the fifth grade –– again.
I knew I was gifted and capable of more, but after we moved from urban Oklahoma City to Tulsa
before the fourth grade, my intelligence was meaningless. Suburban–school luxuries like computers,
advanced math, and special ways to learn English flooded my brain. Homework was an afterthought.
Homework was not an afterthought to my fifth grade teacher, however. With her annoying, dogged
persistency, Mrs. Thomas gave me "zero slips" whenever I "forgot" an assignment. She was on a

Tears welled up in my eyes but anger manifest itself instead. It's not fair. My grades may be bad, I
grumbled angrily, but I'm NOT stupid.
Yet stupidly, I refused to ask for help.
Stupidly, I let the entire year pass me by.
The end of school came eventually, and I abandoned dreams of the sixth grade. Luckily, I was
transferring to another elementary school, but this offered me little consolation. Only dummies have
to repeat a grade.
The final bell rang, and students erupted in a joyful chorus of cheers as summer break began. I sang
a melancholy dirge of self–pity. My bitterness increased as I waited for my mother to pick me up.
She came at last and I jumped up, anxious to leave forever. Again, Mrs. Thomas thwarted my plans;
she came outside to talk to my mother, undoubtedly about my ignominious fate. As they murmured, I
viewed the co–conspirators with hostile eyes. I'm a victim, the final sigh of my fifth grade year
whispered wearily.
Before I could escape, she had to heighten my torture with a few words of wisdom and the
obligatory good–bye. I ignored her words as she stood before me. Her words had not averted this
horrible moment. I prayed that she was done, but soon she had her arms around me. Not strangling
my incorrigible neck, but hugging my ten–year old shoulders.
I remember few details of this hug. First,

My Most Memorable Event
Throughout my life I have had numerous memorable events. The memorable times in my life vary
from being the best in my life and some being the worse. Either way these memories have become
milestones that I will remember forever, which is the day of my graduation. This day is the most
memorable because the enjoyment I had when I received my high school diploma. I can remember
this day like it was yesterday. My uncle came into my room at seven o'clock in the morning
telling me, "rise and shine it was time to get up". I opened my eyes and started to stretch, wishing
it was just a dream, but of course it wasn't! I was extremely tired from staying up late the night
before because I was so anxious for the big day....show more content...
As everyone was taking their seats getting ready. I felt like I was sitting on pins and needles, I
was so nervous. Once and for all it was time they called out my name I started walking up those
stairs and it felt like the whole entire world was behind me, all I could see was a beautiful future
ahead. I finally accomplished twelve years of hard work and dedication this was a new step to
take on bigger and better things in my life. I felt as I could do anything. I had new responsibilities
like most adults and I came to realization that I had lived through one of most important events of
growing up. This opened up many possibilities for me like going to college, moving out on my
own, and paying bills. I've never felt so proud of myself and the person I've become. Honestly
one of the main reasons why this is one of my most memorable events is because neither of my
Smith 3 parents graduated high school and my whole family thought I was going to end up just
like them. So this was a personal goal I wanted to prove to myself and everyone else that I could
graduate and actually be someone. This experience has made me become a better person. It's made
me more mature and that no matter what give hundred and ten percent and never give up. I knew
from that moment on that I would remember that day and this amazing memory for a lifetime and
no matter what this memorable event will impact me in so many ways for the rest of my

My Experience At A Social Event Essay
Imagine a sharp looking single man pulls up to the front of a single woman 's home in the early
night, ventures out of his automobile, and makes his way toward her front doorway. Both of
them were acquainted with each other by a shared companion at a social event a few weeks
earlier and tonight is their first date. As she ventures outside her home, he offers an umbrella to
shield her from rain showers and opens the passenger side door for her.The man drives to an upper
class 5 star restaurant where he has made a special reservation for two. Discussion streams steadily
between the pair for two or three hours, with each beginning to learn about one another. After they
finish the meal, the man pays for the dinner and after that drives the woman home. He walks her to
her front door and expresses gratitude toward her with a comforting grin and leaves. This type of
interaction between the two was repeated frequently, and two started a romantic relationship that
lead to marriage (as the two became more acquainted with each other through hours of discussion,
spread over months) [1].
In the old days of dating, the imaginary dating scenario above was the correct way to court a love
interest but in today's age, this way would be labeled as 'old–fashioned'. Rather, in the 21st century,
the web based dating is viewed as the best approach to date. According to a 'Dating in the 21st

A Literacy Event that Changed my Life
All my life I have been a lazy person, doing just enough to get by. Most of the time, in high school,
I was content with just a "C". The only time I wasn't, was if it was a class I liked, and I paid
attention to. If this was the case, I could have received a 99% on a test and been dissatisfied. But,
for the rest of my classes, which were most of my classes, that I didn't like, I never paid attention
to or did homework, and I still managed to do well on tests. So basically I didn't do anything except
take tests and I still got satisfactory grades. In school I was so lazy that there could have been a
project due worth about 20% of the final grade and I still wouldn't do it.

Since Jr. High I haven't read a single book that was assigned to me in English class, hence my poor

to a 3.0. When my marks finally improved is when I started getting along with my English
teacher. I never got along with any of my English teachers for some unknown reason. Maybe
because I hardly did any work at all. I have to thank the book, The Great Gatsby for helping me
find my prolonged love for my English teacher, and every English teacher since. Out of pure
coincidence, as soon as I read my first assigned book, I suddenly got along with my teacher. I read
the book for no reason other then that I finally thought that a book that was assigned, sounded
interesting. And sure enough I was right. I read the book and enjoyed it. Before I read this book,
the teacher and I were really at each others throats, literally. I found out from a fellow student that
overheard her talking about me and she said that she would love to have the chance to knock me
out. I laughed at the thought, since she did weigh about 100lbs and was over 60. I am very
thankful for The Great Gatsby, and thankful that I read it. Since reading the book, I have joined a
book club and bought a few books, and am in the process of reading one right now. A lot of things

The Most Important Event in My Life Essay example
The Most Important Event in my Life
The most important event in my life, didn't even happen to myself, but happened to my older sister,
Becky. The reason I am writing about her is because the things that have happened to her and the
things she has done in the past have affected me tremendously as well as my family. Her life used to
be filled with nothing else but drugs, stealing, and lying. My family has never been the same since
then.
It all started out when my very shy, self–conscious sister didn't really fit in well. She was 16, chubby
and had very few friends. One day Becky's best friend Debbie introduced her to 19 year old guy
name John. Becky and John hit it off very well...show more content...
During this time, my mother found that her diamond earrings were missing. She then

and Becky just said she didn't know anything about it, but that wasn't the true story at all. By that
time I was in Nebraska visiting my favorite aunt. A week went by and I had missed Mother's day
that year since our flight was canceled, so we stayed an extra day. The next day I finally get
home, not to find a warm home with my family greeting me at the door, but instead to find my
parents and my sister with a couple of suitcases in their hands walking to the car. I proceed to ask
my mother what was wrong with my sister and she replied with "Yesterday Becky confessed that
for the past year, she has been doing heroin." My heart sank. I never thought it was that serious. My
parents took her to rehab, and I went into my room and cried the rest of the day.
My parents came back, surprisingly still with my sister. They said that the rehab wouldn't take my
sister because she was 18 and a legal adult and could easily sign herself out whenever she wanted.
The rehab told my parents that Becky would have to face her withdrawals at home. Now I never
knew how people acted when they went through withdrawals, but I do know now that it has to be
the most painful and frightening sight I have ever seen. Becky had to stay in my parents

Essay about A Life Changing Event
"A Life Changing Event"
There are many events that stand out in my life that were significant and helped me grow
stronger. One of these events stands out in particular to me and had the greatest impact in my life.
When I attended high school my focus was never on the academics but only on sports and having
fun with my friends. I never payed attention for more than five seconds and failed to complete any
type of work given to me. My lack of care for high school affected me on going to a four year college

myself better for the next game or practice. I could recite defenses and offenses with no problem,
but give me a math problem and it was as if it was in another language. Unlike my teachers I got
along with my coaches well and they would be willing to help me get into a good school to
further my playing skills. That is in reality only about twenty five percent of what you need to get
into college. I lacked the other seventy five percent of doing at least average in academics and
being a well rounded student. I had some schools contact me about playing lacrosse at their
school but once they had heard I hadn't taken the SAT's yet and that my grades were a little above
failing their interest level dropped. I believe that I potentially threw away some opportunities that
could have really benefitted me today. Even if I would have payed attention the slightest bit I
could have easily achieved B's and C's. I had my priorities mixed up and it really came back to bite
me four years down the road. In addition to those two of the many problems a I faced another

Descriptive Essay About A Wedding
Every wedding has a purpose to celebrate the lives of two people promising to share their lives
together as one for eternity and wanting to represent what is important to them by choosing a
perfect wedding theme displaying a specific place for a wedding ceremony and reception. The
wedding began on a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon in the middle of September, in the hills of
Tennessee surrounded by enormous trees with vibrant colorful leaves slowly falling off the trees
onto the green meadow. Before the wedding began, the groom, best man and groomsmen got ready
in an old farmhouse dressing room. Once they were dressed, they got pictures taken. The bridal
party, including myself and the groom's mother, all got ready in the cottage. Once we were all
dressed, we also had our pictures taken.
The bride was dressed in a long and elegant white gown with her beautiful chestnut brown hair up
in a bun and a gorgeous diamond headpiece and the groom was dressed in a blue suit with a white
shirt and a blue tie. The wedding party consisted of a maid of honor and bridesmaids that all wore
blue knee length dresses and cowboy boots while the best man and groomsmen wore blue suits
with white shirts and blue ties. As the mother of the bride, I wore a knee length cream colored dress
with cowboy boots and my ex–husband, who was the father of the bride, was dressed in a blue suit
with white shirt and a red tie. The mother of the groom wore a light blue knee length dress with
cowboy boots and the father of the groom wore his dark blue military attire. My ravishing
granddaughter, the flower girl, wore a long classic cream colored dress with a red bow and sash
holding a red, white and blue basket with white rose petals in it. My cute grandson, the ring bearer,
was dressed in a blue suit with a white shirt and a red tie holding a brown little treasure box with
wedding rings in it.
The wedding and reception were held outside a venue called Owen Farm in Chapmansboro,
Tennessee, which is located about forty–five minutes Northwest of Nashville. I could not believe
how beautiful the farm was with a breathtaking view overlooking the Cumberland River. The
wedding theme was an Patriotic country wedding with a variety of

Descriptive Essay About A Festival
My excitement was almost palpable as I drove past Lake Okeechobee, watching sunlight bounce

entering into the majestic festival land. Entering the festival grounds, we where bursting with
excitement and energy, partly because we were sitting still in a cramped car for 2 hours. The car
was moving only several inches per minute, but as the car took covered more territory, so did my
eagerness. There were only a couple of feet distancing our car from the next; everyone else was as
enthusiastic as I. I saw smiles and excitement and heard electronic music in the background, all
while sitting and waiting in a vehicle. It can to my realization that this was the first time I was

beat of the music and we all suffered from the humid, swampy, hot weather.
Although my friends and I wanted to park the car and head straight to the festival, we had some
housekeeping to do. Three tents and a camp area later, we were ready to start dancing to the
electronic music and enjoying our three day festival weekend. The summer heat was unbearable, as
the humidity engulfed the air and the sunrays kept reluctantly burning our

The Event That Changed My Life Essay
There have been very few events throughout my lifetime that I feel have impacted or inspired me
with such noteworthiness and that I know will change my outlook on the world and affect me
forever. One of those events occurred when I traveled to Portugal, my parent's homeland. From this
excursion in 2007, I learned the importance of family, most importantly the distant kind. It
provided me with a totally different perspective on the world and how large and extended one's
family can really be; even across cultures and continents. I felt so fortunate learning this lesson at a
young age and growing to appreciate the ideals I was brought up with as a child. The family I have
in Portugal has always been there; however, their faces have aged and...show more content...
Since the town I was in was in a very rural area of the country, on the northern most point, near the
border of Spain, whatever meats, fruits and vegetables I ate were freshly grown or raised on local
farms. I had a first–hand experience with this when I went to my grandmother's very old friend's
house. While I was there, I saw my first freshly prepared chicken with the head, feathers, and feet
removed in front of my eyes. Even though this seemed like a gory and almost disgusting thing to
me at the time, I later found out, in the film Food Inc., that the ways animals are treated in this
country are much worse than what I saw that day. Nonetheless, the freshness of ingredients in any
cooking is always a plus, and this made better by being at the table with my family and friends.
From having spent these few hours with my relatives in Portugal, I was able to come away
knowing great tasting food and beautiful, and at times gory, memories. Quite honestly, I've never
had better tasting chicken. The Portuguese culture, which I had already grown up with in the U.S.,
was a main part of the trip in and of itself. The magnificent architecture that I saw there, even
though it was decaying with time, was very symbolic of the Portuguese heritage. For example, on
many red clay terracotta roof tops there resided cupolas, and on those cupolas was the famed Gallo
do Barcelos (English equivalent – Rooster of Barcelos), which

full of many unexpected challenges that will be thrown in your face at any place and any time.
People learn and grow from every experience that they go through in life. Some of the events that
have changed my life was losing my grandmother, graduation, and going to college. Changes
come almost every day in my life. Losing my grandmother was one of the worst things that have
happened to me. When she died, I knew my life had changed. I watched her take her last breath in
the hospital and it was very heartbreaking. She was like my second mom because she was always
with me. I didn't think it would come so soon. Dealing with her death was one of the hardest thing
that I've ever had to do. It was very hard because it was my second experience of losing someone
very close to me around the same time of the year. I had to learn how to cope with losing her. I let
all my emotions out, I didn't listen to what anyone was saying, and I had to remember to take care
of myself. Losing my grandmother changed me because she did everything for me. I had to grow
up and be more responsible. I had to learn how

Describe An Event Essay

  • 1. Unit 22: Describe different events and their characteristics in the hospitality industry The Events industry opens a great employment opportunity for hospitality work. Due to the recent growth in events the standards for what can be called a great event has been raised. Expectations from people attending events such as weddings have been risen therefore the quality of the events has become more elaborate and expensive. As shown in the "annual income from events" table below; corporate events like conferences and meetings bring in the most money. This is partly because they involve massive companies who are able to pump tones of money into these events. Sports and music events are expected to boom in 2015 and 2020 with stadium capacities growing places such as the Olympic Stadium in London will need to fill them as rent on stadiums like these are costly meaning more events not just sport events will be held in sports stadiums in order to generate extra income. Music events have over recent years become a place where young people love going. Event organisers have realised this and have tailored there marketing to aim their music festivals and concerts primarily at young people. One type of event which is not on the list is celebratory events such as Weddings, Birthdays, Christmas parties, etc. These type of events are expensive. For example the average cost for a wedding in the UK is ВЈ21,000 each and that is not including the honeymoon or rings. With a venue setting you Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Essay about Plan and Organise an event Plan and organise an event (320) The purpose and benefits of planning an event are to ensure the event runs smoothly and to plan. In doing so you can ensure that time and cost are used effectively by all the people involved in the event by communicating to those involved throughout the planning stage. When planning an event I ensure I start the planning well in advance so that I have the opportunity to be thorough thus ensuring the event runs smoothly and to plan. The role of the event organiser is to manage the event. This will start at the planning stage which is the first part of organising any event, through to the delivery of the event. At the planning stage I would need to set out key objectives for the event. These can...show more content... The types of problems that may occur when organising an event are: Venue is double booked– when possible always have an alternative venue or an alternative date Resources not available – if the resource was for example having a presentation using a power–point, I would always have everything backed up in hand–outs to ensure the audience was still able to visualise what I was going to show on a power–point presentation. There are different types of events such as: Meetings – internal staff meetings at different levels depending on what is being discussed e.g. Project team meeting to discuss how things are going or Trustee board meeting to discuss how the organisation as a whole is operating Networking events – members of the company represent the bureau at an event to publicise our services. These events are ideal for making new contacts, leading to new clients, partners, and vendors Project Launches – publicise a new project by arranging an event and inviting attendees as well as media to attend This would create a buzz around the release of the new project and is a good way to get people excited and to generate media coverage Stakeholder Meetings – meeting between funders (external to our business) to discuss progress and future funding Social events – an event for all staff to attend such as a Christmas gathering. This would be an opportunity for all staff, both paid and volunteer staff, to get together outside of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. My Most Memorable Event Essay My most memorable childhood event was when I was 15 years old. It was the Fourth of July. A big family vacation a barbeque, over night stay and out of town trip to six flags, and I had a blast the night before me, my mom, sisters and brother packed our bags to stay the night over my cousin house in Goodlettsville ,Tennessee. She had the biggest house ever I thought it was a mansion; six bedrooms two an half bath, a swimming pool, a game/movie room with a nice big kitchen. It was something that I was not use, knowing that we stayed in a three bedroom based on an income apartment on the East side of Nashville. Arriving to my cousin house i seen alot of my family members even the ones that was from out of town. We greeted eachother and...show more content... We finally came to a stop i was waken by my big brother hitting me with a water balloon. i was pissed and i rush out the car to get him back but my mom was giving us that you better act like you got some sence or we leaving look so we got under control. Once we got in the theme park the fun had begun. There were so many rides big and small. Some of them i did'nt get to ride because i was too short and they didnt believe my age. So i was mad and ready to home because i thought it was unfair. So i decide to stay by the pool with my granny and Aunt Jackie. Which was fine with me because they gave me money to play games and to get food. I remember almost collecting fifthy dollars from them and that was alot of money to me. I listen to all the grown up gossip. They were funny until they realized i was laughing with them. So they made me go play. I finally seen my brother swimming so that was my plan in revenge i jump on him while he was under water and didnt let him until i felt like he had enough. After while it turned into a game of marco polo. Then it was time to go we got together we all gathered at the concenstation stand and got food and drinks. We took a couple of pictures together and said our last goodbyes before we hopped back on the road to go home. I had so much fun at that the sometimes i wish i could go back to that age at times, but now i have my own kid to raise and have family vacation with. I just Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 5. The Event That Changed My Life Essay Describe an event from your past and how it shaped you as a person. I'm a victim, I thought. The books were closed. The papers were signed. It was official. The next school year, I would enter the fifth grade –– again. I knew I was gifted and capable of more, but after we moved from urban Oklahoma City to Tulsa before the fourth grade, my intelligence was meaningless. Suburban–school luxuries like computers, advanced math, and special ways to learn English flooded my brain. Homework was an afterthought. Homework was not an afterthought to my fifth grade teacher, however. With her annoying, dogged persistency, Mrs. Thomas gave me "zero slips" whenever I "forgot" an assignment. She was on a ...show more content... Tears welled up in my eyes but anger manifest itself instead. It's not fair. My grades may be bad, I grumbled angrily, but I'm NOT stupid. Yet stupidly, I refused to ask for help. Stupidly, I let the entire year pass me by. The end of school came eventually, and I abandoned dreams of the sixth grade. Luckily, I was transferring to another elementary school, but this offered me little consolation. Only dummies have to repeat a grade. The final bell rang, and students erupted in a joyful chorus of cheers as summer break began. I sang a melancholy dirge of self–pity. My bitterness increased as I waited for my mother to pick me up. She came at last and I jumped up, anxious to leave forever. Again, Mrs. Thomas thwarted my plans;

I'm a victim, the final sigh of my fifth grade year whispered wearily. Before I could escape, she had to heighten my torture with a few words of wisdom and the obligatory good–bye. I ignored her words as she stood before me. Her words had not averted this horrible moment. I prayed that she was done, but soon she had her arms around me. Not strangling my incorrigible neck, but hugging my ten–year old shoulders. I remember few details of this hug. First, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. My Most Memorable Event Throughout my life I have had numerous memorable events. The memorable times in my life vary from being the best in my life and some being the worse. Either way these memories have become milestones that I will remember forever, which is the day of my graduation. This day is the most memorable because the enjoyment I had when I received my high school diploma. I can remember this day like it was yesterday. My uncle came into my room at seven o'clock in the morning telling me, "rise and shine it was time to get up". I opened my eyes and started to stretch, wishing it was just a dream, but of course it wasn't! I was extremely tired from staying up late the night before because I was so anxious for the big day....show more content... As everyone was taking their seats getting ready. I felt like I was sitting on pins and needles, I was so nervous. Once and for all it was time they called out my name I started walking up those stairs and it felt like the whole entire world was behind me, all I could see was a beautiful future ahead. I finally accomplished twelve years of hard work and dedication this was a new step to take on bigger and better things in my life. I felt as I could do anything. I had new responsibilities like most adults and I came to realization that I had lived through one of most important events of growing up. This opened up many possibilities for me like going to college, moving out on my own, and paying bills. I've never felt so proud of myself and the person I've become. Honestly one of the main reasons why this is one of my most memorable events is because neither of my Smith 3 parents graduated high school and my whole family thought I was going to end up just like them. So this was a personal goal I wanted to prove to myself and everyone else that I could graduate and actually be someone. This experience has made me become a better person. It's made me more mature and that no matter what give hundred and ten percent and never give up. I knew from that moment on that I would remember that day and this amazing memory for a lifetime and no matter what this memorable event will impact me in so many ways for the rest of my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. My Experience At A Social Event Essay Imagine a sharp looking single man pulls up to the front of a single woman 's home in the early night, ventures out of his automobile, and makes his way toward her front doorway. Both of them were acquainted with each other by a shared companion at a social event a few weeks earlier and tonight is their first date. As she ventures outside her home, he offers an umbrella to shield her from rain showers and opens the passenger side door for her.The man drives to an upper class 5 star restaurant where he has made a special reservation for two. Discussion streams steadily between the pair for two or three hours, with each beginning to learn about one another. After they finish the meal, the man pays for the dinner and after that drives the woman home. He walks her to her front door and expresses gratitude toward her with a comforting grin and leaves. This type of interaction between the two was repeated frequently, and two started a romantic relationship that lead to marriage (as the two became more acquainted with each other through hours of discussion, spread over months) [1]. In the old days of dating, the imaginary dating scenario above was the correct way to court a love interest but in today's age, this way would be labeled as 'old–fashioned'. Rather, in the 21st century, the web based dating is viewed as the best approach to date. Significant Event in My Life Essay Vesna Bejdic December 10th, 2010 UNI 101 Final Draft Most Significant Event in My Life Life seems to take many twists and turns that somehow mesh into each other to form a chaotic knot of happenings. All of these occurrences are supposed to shape you into a wiser more experienced person. Many people can even pin point the exact moment in their life which was forever changed by a single event. When that event happens it becomes an unforgettable memory for you and teaches you a lesson that becomes one of the basic guidelines in your life. If I didn't do that, I would be typing a completely different essay on a completely different significant event in my life that doesn't have any relation to Sociology. As I left my freshman and sophomore year behind me and approached my junior and senior year, I began thinking about my senior project and what I want to do, not what's easy or would take the least amount of effort and time. My first idea was to job shadow my dad because I liked working with him, but I thought about it and didn't want to do it 100%. My next idea was what I want to do for community service, and of course, I think back to my first experience with community service, which was helping others. I wanted to volunteer at a foster home because that's first–hand experience of being around less fortunate kids and gaining knowledge of what a Social Worker does, however there wasn't anything available within the time range I needed it to be. The next best thing was volunteering at a Boys & Girls Club. Yes, I still help children who need it, but I wasn't able to be around a Social Worker like I hoped. It was still a good Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 11. Essay on A Literacy Event that Changed my Life A Literacy Event that Changed my Life All my life I have been a lazy person, doing just enough to get by. Most of the time, in high school, I was content with just a "C". The only time I wasn't, was if it was a class I liked, and I paid attention to. If this was the case, I could have received a 99% on a test and been dissatisfied. But, for the rest of my classes, which were most of my classes, that I didn't like, I never paid attention to or did homework, and I still managed to do well on tests. So basically I didn't do anything except take tests and I still got satisfactory grades. In school I was so lazy that there could have been a project due worth about 20% of the final grade and I still wouldn't do it. Once in my 11th...show more content... Regardless, I received a zero on this project, thus failing that marking period. Since Jr. High I haven't read a single book that was assigned to me in English class, hence my poor English grades. In fact, when my marks started to improve in English my GPA soared from a 2.1 to a 3.0. When my marks finally improved is when I started getting along with my English teacher. I never got along with any of my English teachers for some unknown reason. Maybe because I hardly did any work at all. I have to thank the book, The Great Gatsby for helping me find my prolonged love for my English teacher, and every English teacher since. Out of pure coincidence, as soon as I read my first assigned book, I suddenly got along with my teacher. I read the book for no reason other then that I finally thought that a book that was assigned, sounded interesting. And sure enough I was right. I read the book and enjoyed it. Before I read this book, the teacher and I were really at each others throats, literally. I found out from a fellow student that overheard her talking about me and she said that she would love to have the chance to knock me out. I laughed at the thought, since she did weigh about 100lbs and was over 60. I am very thankful for The Great Gatsby, and thankful that I read it. Since reading the book, I have joined a book club and bought a few books, and am in the process of reading one right now. A lot of things changed Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. The Most Important Event in My Life Essay example The Most Important Event in my Life The most important event in my life, didn't even happen to myself, but happened to my older sister, Becky. The reason I am writing about her is because the things that have happened to her and the things she has done in the past have affected me tremendously as well as my family. Her life used to be filled with nothing else but drugs, stealing, and lying. My family has never been the same since then. It all started out when my very shy, self–conscious sister didn't really fit in well. She was 16, chubby and had very few friends. One day Becky's best friend Debbie introduced her to 19 year old guy name John. Becky and John hit it off very well...show more content... My mother asked Becky about it and Becky just said she didn't know anything about it, but that wasn't the true story at all. By that time I was in Nebraska visiting my favorite aunt. A week went by and I had missed Mother's day that year since our flight was canceled, so we stayed an extra day. The next day I finally get home, not to find a warm home with my family greeting me at the door, but instead to find my parents and my sister with a couple of suitcases in their hands walking to the car. I proceed to ask my mother what was wrong with my sister and she replied with "Yesterday Becky confessed that for the past year, she has been doing heroin." My heart sank. I never thought it was that serious. My parents took her to rehab, and I went into my room and cried the rest of the day. My parents came back, surprisingly still with my sister. They said that the rehab wouldn't take my sister because she was 18 and a legal adult and could easily sign herself out whenever she wanted. The rehab told my parents that Becky would have to face her withdrawals at home. Now I never knew how people acted when they went through withdrawals, but I do know now that it has to be the most painful and frightening sight I have ever seen. One of these events stands out in particular to me and had the greatest impact in my life. When I attended high school my focus was never on the academics but only on sports and having fun with my friends. I never payed attention for more than five seconds and failed to complete any type of work given to me. My lack of care for high school affected me on going to a four year college , playing a sport in college, and taking remedial classes. The thought of asking any of my teachers for letters of recommendation was not even an option anymore because they knew my personality and work ethic. All throughout high school I was involved in sports. I excelled in football and lacrosse throughout the four years I attended my high school. I had no problem going home studying football plays for hours and looking to make myself better for the next game or practice. I could recite defenses and offenses with no problem, but give me a math problem and it was as if it was in another language. Unlike my teachers I got along with my coaches well and they would be willing to help me get into a good school to further my playing skills. That is in reality only about twenty five percent of what you need to get into college. I lacked the other seventy five percent of doing at least average in academics and being a well rounded student. I had some schools contact me about playing lacrosse at their school but once they had heard I hadn't taken the SAT's yet and that my grades were a little above failing their interest level dropped. I believe that I potentially threw away some opportunities that could have really benefitted me today. Even if I would have payed attention the slightest bit I could have easily achieved B's and C's. I had my priorities mixed up and it really came back to bite me four years down the road. In addition to those two of the many problems a I faced another problem arose quickly. Descriptive Essay About A Wedding Every wedding has a purpose to celebrate the lives of two people promising to share their lives together as one for eternity and wanting to represent what is important to them by choosing a perfect wedding theme displaying a specific place for a wedding ceremony and reception. The wedding began on a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon in the middle of September, in the hills of Tennessee surrounded by enormous trees with vibrant colorful leaves slowly falling off the trees onto the green meadow. Before the wedding began, the groom, best man and groomsmen got ready in an old farmhouse dressing room. Once they were dressed, they got pictures taken. The bridal party, including myself and the groom's mother, all got ready in the cottage. Once we were all dressed, we also had our pictures taken. The bride was dressed in a long and elegant white gown with her beautiful chestnut brown hair up in a bun and a gorgeous diamond headpiece and the groom was dressed in a blue suit with a white shirt and a blue tie. The wedding party consisted of a maid of honor and bridesmaids that all wore blue knee length dresses and cowboy boots while the best man and groomsmen wore blue suits with white shirts and blue ties. As the mother of the bride, I wore a knee length cream colored dress with cowboy boots and my ex–husband, who was the father of the bride, was dressed in a blue suit with white shirt and a red tie. The mother of the groom wore a light blue knee length dress with cowboy boots and the father of the groom wore his dark blue military attire. My ravishing granddaughter, the flower girl, wore a long classic cream colored dress with a red bow and sash holding a red, white and blue basket with white rose petals in it. My cute grandson, the ring bearer, was dressed in a blue suit with a white shirt and a red tie holding a brown little treasure box with wedding rings in it. My 6 best friends and I were moments away from entering into the majestic festival land. Entering the festival grounds, we where bursting with excitement and energy, partly because we were sitting still in a cramped car for 2 hours. The car was moving only several inches per minute, but as the car took covered more territory, so did my eagerness. There were only a couple of feet distancing our car from the next; everyone else was as enthusiastic as I. I saw smiles and excitement and heard electronic music in the background, all while sitting and waiting in a vehicle. It can to my realization that this was the first time I was surrounded by a whole spectrum of unique people. Some attendees looked like they had just stepped out of a Madonna music video, with neon colored clothes and asymmetrical patters; others wore shorts and a tank top. However, there were two similarities among us: we came to dance to each beat of the music and we all suffered from the humid, swampy, hot weather. Although my friends and I wanted to park the car and head straight to the festival, we had some housekeeping to do. Three tents and a camp area later, we were ready to start dancing to the electronic music and enjoying our three day festival weekend. The summer heat was unbearable, as the humidity engulfed the air and the sunrays kept reluctantly burning our Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. The Event That Changed My Life Essay There have been very few events throughout my lifetime that I feel have impacted or inspired me with such noteworthiness and that I know will change my outlook on the world and affect me forever. One of those events occurred when I traveled to Portugal, my parent's homeland. From this excursion in 2007, I learned the importance of family, most importantly the distant kind. It provided me with a totally different perspective on the world and how large and extended one's family can really be; even across cultures and continents. I felt so fortunate learning this lesson at a young age and growing to appreciate the ideals I was brought up with as a child. The family I have in Portugal has always been there; however, their faces have aged and...show more content... Since the town I was in was in a very rural area of the country, on the northern most point, near the border of Spain, whatever meats, fruits and vegetables I ate were freshly grown or raised on local farms. I had a first–hand experience with this when I went to my grandmother's very old friend's house. While I was there, I saw my first freshly prepared chicken with the head, feathers, and feet removed in front of my eyes. Even though this seemed like a gory and almost disgusting thing to me at the time, I later found out, in the film Food Inc., that the ways animals are treated in this country are much worse than what I saw that day. Nonetheless, the freshness of ingredients in any cooking is always a plus, and this made better by being at the table with my family and friends. From having spent these few hours with my relatives in Portugal, I was able to come away knowing great tasting food and beautiful, and at times gory, memories. Quite honestly, I've never had better tasting chicken. The Portuguese culture, which I had already grown up with in the U.S., was a main part of the trip in and of itself. The magnificent architecture that I saw there, even though it was decaying with time, was very symbolic of the Portuguese heritage. For example, on many red clay terracotta roof tops there resided cupolas, and on those cupolas was the famed Gallo do Barcelos (English equivalent – Rooster of Barcelos), which Get more content on HelpWriting.net
