Similar Ground for Caregiving
Hello one and all! It is my unique honor and benefit to post my first article on this blog site. I am
thrilled by the invitation to post routinely. In subsequent reflections, I will share stories and
understandings obtained from my personal and expert experiences as a caretaker. Essentially, I am
by nature, nurture, and requirement a caregiver. And considering that you are reading this blog site,
I believe I am safe to presume you have an interest in caregiving too. As a result, this is the
commonalities on which we stand. The basis for future conversations.
My interest for offering helpful information to caretakers and care receivers is rooted in the
specifying minutes of my life. When I was 15 years of ages, my life changed forever. My mother was
identified with incurable breast cancer. Over the next 8 years, I acted as among her main caregivers-
- experiencing the blessings and the problems of that intimidating journey. A years later on, I shared
in the care of my dad who suffered a stroke and eventually died of incurable cancer. I also
companioned my godmother who developed vascular dementia in the last years of her life. Each time
I was called to care, I felt ill-prepared and ill-informed. Reactive instead of proactive. Everything
appeared beyond my control regardless of my finest efforts and intentions. Noise familiar?
In the years following my personal experiences as a caregiver, my expert life unfolded in incredible
and unforeseen ways. I never ever in my wildest dreams thought of dealing with households
challenged by terminal disease. That was a story I did not choose to revisit. However, as it winds up,
that is precisely what I required to do. It is what I am called to do. As you will find out in future
postings, I worked in hospice and palliative look after years, working as a pastor and community
educator for a hospice in Denver, Colorado. Today, I function as an educational expert. I speak and
blog about the issues connected to aging, disease, and end-of-life care. My initial experiences as a
caretaker notify every program I present and every short article I write. As a professional in the
field, I am well versed in theories, designs, research, and fundamental teachings relevant to
caregiving. However, understanding the experience of caregiving from the inside out is my incentive
to serve caretakers and care receivers.
My goal in writing is simple yet substantial. By sharing stories, I want to inform, enlighten, and
inspire you. I am a company believer that knowledge is power. I will motivate you to be proactive
instead of responsive-- prepare to care. Collect the required information to make informed decisions
and establish an initial plan of care. I will certainly enlighten you about the challenges in addition to
the opportunities paid for by offering and receiving care. And, I will certainly inspire you to engage
the trip of caregiving in life-giving, ingenious methods.
I look forward to the continuous conversation. If you have particular questions or concerns
connected to your caregiving experience, I would love to learn through you. Up until the next
publishing, I wish you and yours countless blessings.
