A pronoun is a word that takes the
place of one or more nouns.
Pronouns can be singular or plural
like nouns.The word or phrase
replaced by a pronoun is called an
antecedent. Example:
 Ram is a good student, he studies very well.
(Ram is a noun. He is a pronoun that refers to the
antecedent, Ram)
 When Raman was fixing the car, he cut his hand.
(Raman is a noun. He is a pronoun that
refers to the antecedent, Raman.)
 There are eight types of Pronoun and they
are:
1. Personal Pronoun
2. Demonstrative Pronoun
3. Reflexive Pronoun
4. Relative Pronoun
5. Interrogative Pronoun
6. Possessive Pronoun
7. Reciprocal Pronoun
8. Indefinite Pronoun
 Refer to people or things.
 Include: I, me, my, mine, you, your, yours,
he, him, his, she, her, hers, it, its, they,
them, their, theirs, we, us, our, ours.
 Examples:
1. I love my country.
2. We are going to school.
 Used to indicate, point to a noun.
 Includes: this, that, those, these.
 Examples :
1. This is my home.
2. I did that work.
 Refer to another noun in the sentence and
end in –self or –selves.
 Include: myself, itself, himself, yourself,
themselves, ourselves.
 Examples:
1. You should do it yourself.
2. They will go by themselves.
 Refer to join two sentences together.
 Include: who, whom, which, that.
 Examples :
1. He is the boy who helped me.
2. This is a drawing that Radha did.
 Used to ask questions.
 Include: what, who, which, where, how.
 Examples:
1. What do you like?
2. Who are you?
3. How you did that?
How Where
 Used to show ownership.
 Include: my, your, his, hers, our.
 Examples :
1. This pen in Mine.
2. She is my sister.
 Used to express a mutual or reciprocal
relationship.
 Includes: Each other, one another.
 Examples :
1. Ram and Sita loves each other.
2. The sisters were hugging one another.
 Used for non-specific items and people. It
does not refer to a particular person, place,
or thing.
 Includes: anyone, someone, all, both, each,
few.
 Examples :
 I hope someone will help me.
 Some people are born great.
 Skateboards are fun, but can be
dangerous.
