3. INTRODUCTION
Most vehicles today are powered using gasoline, but
gasoline pollutes the air and is expensive and a non-
renewable resource. One of the best way to make
vehicles by eliminating dependency on gasoline is
“Electric Vehicle”. It will also help to keep our
environment clean.
An electric vehicle (EV) is one that operates on
an electric motor, instead of an internal-combustion
engine that generates power by burning a mix of fuel and
gases.
Electric vehicle unlike traditional vehicle doesn’t pollute
environment that’s why it is the ideal choice of scientists.
4. ELECTRIC VEHICLE MARKET IN INDIA
In India electric vehicle was introduced late.
Indian researchers are trying to improve, for vehicle be
affordable as well as better option than traditional vehicles.
India’s electric vehicle uses Lithium-Ion battery but it has
many drawbacks such as short range, less battery life, etc.
No structured charging infrastructure in India.
Most of the researchers are focusing to improve battery
technology, and trying to reduce charging time as in India
proper charging infrastructure is missing.
Government of India is trying to implement different
policies or scheme to promote Electric vehicles.
5. OBJECTIVES
To understand the Electric Vehicle market of India.
To know the impact of electric vehicles on environment
and how it is going to facilitate to contain pollution.
To find out the strengths and weaknesses of the
electronic vehicle market with regard to their
performance in this new era scenario.
To study the contemporary opportunities and challenges
for EV market.
6. REVIEW OF LITERATURE
DR. NIRUPAMA PRAKASH (2016) In her book on “The Future of
Electric Vehicles in India – It deals with the future of electric vehicle from
the consumer's point of view. Policy makers, environmentalists and
automobile companies, students, researchers will find answers to the
questions they are asking while getting ready for the era of responsible
energy usage. They will benefit from this book about what the Indian
consumer wants from electric vehicles in the coming years, and how society
can make a concerted effort to ensure that the optimistic forecasts about
electric vehicles become a reality in the immediate future
Krause et al (2013) in his study “On Perception and reality : Public
Knowledge of Plug in Vehicles in 21st century. - This paper examines the
extent of consumer knowledge about plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) and
the current policies in place to encourage their purchase and use. Data are
collected via a survey administered to a sample of 2302 adult drivers in 21
of the largest cities in the United States.
Megha Agarwal (2019) in her article entitled “What Is The Future Of
Electric Cars In India?” - in which she examined the scope & future
popularity of EV market , advantages f Electric vehicles over traditional
vehicles and challenges may be confront by customer as well as EV market
in India.
7. REVIEW OF LITERATURE (CONTINUE)
Janardan Prasad Kesari, Yash Sharma, Chahat Goel
(2019) in their work “International Journal of Mechanical
Engineering - discussed various Opportunities and Scope for
Electric Vehicles in India, Over the past decade, most of the
metropolitan cities across the world have been witnessing a
degrading trend in air quality index. Exhaust emission data
observations show that promotion of public transport could be
a potential way out of this gridlock. Due to environmental
concerns, numerous public transport authorities harbor a great
interest in introducing zero emission electric buses.
Russell Sydney. (2014) in his book “Energy and EV
Secrets: How the volt, plug-in hybrids, electric cars and e-
bikes can save energy and cut your gas prices”., Speaker Press
Publication. This book is a great read for anyone trying to
fathom what Plug-in cars are all about.
8. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research design - Descriptive and exploratory research is used in this study to ensure the
minimization of biases and maximization of reliability of data collected.
Rationale of Research study - The researcher has used descriptive and exploratory study is
reported on selected people’s expectations and thought process for the idea of electric vehicles.
Sources of data
• Primary data - The Researcher has collected necessary information from the normal people through questionnaire.
Secondary data - from various journals, news papers, articles , books magazines and other piece of works and expertise of
well known people.
Research Instrument - This research is already conducted by use of structured non-disguised
questionnaire to get the responses from the people.
Sample size -Adequate number of sampling units is considered and drawn for the purpose of the
collection of the primary data.
Sampling Technique – Non probability based convenience sampling technique is used by
researcher.

10. FINDINGS AND INTERPRETATIONS
People wants government to take initiative and provide
various incentives.
There are 16 (31%) respondents who wants less interest for
financing a EV as an incentive.
While 15 (29%) respondents expects concession and tax
benefit as an incentive from government.
4 (8%) respondents would like to have some free accessories
with vehicle as an incentive.
Rest 1 (2%) respondent marked can’t say.
Younger people are much aware of EV.
Electric vehicle should have the characteristics of being
affordable.
Unavailability of proper infrastructure and charging facilities
are main obstacles for EV market.
11. MAJOR SUGGESTIONS
The major focus should be on popping up the
infrastructure related to EVs.
Government needs to interfere in this matter to
promote electric vehicle.
There should be some reductions on duties for
those automobile manufacturers who deals in
electric vehicles.
Tax relaxation for those people who purchased
electric vehicle.
There should be huge promotion from government
as well as automobile manufacturing peoples.
12. CONCLUSION
It can be conclude that transition to Electric vehicle is a
huge challenge for India.
EV will be necessary not luxury in future.
Awareness is the key to reach audience.
A battery eco-system needs to be developed.
The automobile industry will take turn in favor of EV as
demand for clean and green environment increase.
13. LIMITATIONS
Collected data probably less accurate, as it is collected
only from 51 people.
Data collection has become difficult for researcher due to
COVID-19.
Data is collected with the help of social media and
personal contacts therefore the sample respondents were
approached from limited area.
The Research study would mainly be undertaken based
on collection of primary data and information mainly
from urban population.
Collected data may be biased.
