1. GDs
• Being the initiator gives an edge. You finish quite a lot
  of matter on the topic.
• Give & accept ideas courteously. Second opinions yet
  expected to add more points/inputs with value.
• Giving a non-speaker an opportunity, triggers your
  entry/ intrusion opportunity.
• Keep points short, crisp and simple.
• Contribute meaningfully, be slow and sure in
  delivering politely.
• Substantiate with examples. Give solutions on the
  topic –do not add hurdles or problems- no if’s and
  but’s.
2. GDs & PI:
GD is to gauge mettle, prior to further entry.
1. Communication skills (Vocabulary, pronunciation and élan style in
    speech).
2. Academic awareness (Updated knowledge). & SME
3. World wise informed (global awareness).
4. Competence in working in groups (Team spirit) & Listening skills.
5. Dress sense & comfort zones (corporate and power dressing). First
    impression influences.
6. Leadership qualities (take initiative, give direction to group, ability to
         take group along, idea feeder, attaining the GD/topic goal)
7. Analytical abilities (examples, logic, relation to topic, adhering)
8. Clarity of thoughts …Conviction (strengths in discussion)
9. Flexibility and co-operative attitudes (approach & open to other ideas).
10. Interviewers/ Colleges need readymade employable candidates. It is
    their pride with no extra effort from their side in future too. Check your
    X factor.
3. GD’s & PI
•   Do’s
•   Speak politely & pleasantly and politely to the group.
•   Respect the contribution of every speaker.
•   Remember that a discussion is not an argument.
    Learn to disagree politely.
•   Think about your contribution before you speak.
•   Stick to the GD topic. Don't be irrelevant /digress.
•   Be aware of your body language when you are
    speaking.
•   Agree and acknowledge what you find interesting.
4. GD’s & PI
• Don'ts
• Lose your temper. A discussion is not an argument.
• Shout. Use a moderate tone and medium pitch.
• Use too many gestures when you speak. Gestures
  like finger pointing and table thumping can appear
  aggressive.
• Dominate the discussion. Confident speakers should
  allow quieter students a chance to contribute.
• Draw too much on personal experience or anecdote,
  remember not to generalize too much.
• Interrupt. Wait for a speaker to finish what they are
  saying before you speak.
5-Face the GD’s & PI’s
• 1st - talk Effective & Efficiently, assertive not
  argumentative - Ability to convince by creating the
  right impact & passion. Hold attention but do not
  dominate- creates a positive impact.
• Be precise and clear. Evaluators look for
  candidate’s knowledge on a given subject, hence
  do not stray away or digress/ carried away by
  others, stay focused.
• Panel watches your ability to listen and then
  respond (logic). Listen carefully then proceed to
  add your view. Your behavior in the group is also
  judged whether you are a loner or a team worker.
• Keep a confident level head. Be calm. Speak to
  express not impress.
6.GD -TIPS
•   Starting GD but not contributing later, gives an impression
    that you started the GD for getting those initial brownies
    earmarked for initiators.
•   If you start a GD- you are responsible for putting it into the
    right perspective/ frame/track, so initiate one only if you have
    in-depth knowledge or wait and watch and then get into the
    GD (safe to U/stand then contribute).
•   Quotes - an effective way of initiating a GD.
    Eg: “ Should the Censor Board be abolished?”
    You could start with a quote: 'Hidden apples are sweet'.
•   ‘Customer is King’ -You could quote this: ‘Sam (Wall-Mart)
    Walton's famous saying, 'There is only one boss: the
    customer. And he can fire everybody in the company -- from
    the chairman downwards, simply by spending his money
    somewhere else’.
•   Most GD’s do not really have conclusions as the whole group
    will never be in favor of one decision. Yet every GD is
    summarized. One can summaries what the group has
    discussed in a nutshell.
7- GD’s
• Keep the following points in mind while
  summarizing a discussion:

• Avoid raising new points.
• Avoid stating only your viewpoint.
• Avoid dwelling only on one aspect of the GD.
• Keep it brief and concise.
• It must incorporate all the important points that
  came out during the GD.
• If the examiner asks you to summaries a GD, it
  means the GD has come to an end.
• Do not add anything once the GD has been
  summarized.
8. Do’s at a GD’s
• Be natural. GD is your chance voice your opinion.
  The evaluator wants to hear you speak.
• Collect & collate your thoughts, before expressing
  it.
• Seek clarification if you have doubts regarding the
  subject before the GD begins if you have any.
• way of gaining attention & recognition, you have to
  back up your statement by giving valuable
  insights, or else all your efforts of initiating the GD
  will be lost / in vain.
• Your BL reflects your mannerisms & attitude.
• Language skills – How you get your points across
  clearly .
9. GD’s
• Don't lose your cool if anyone says anything you
  object to.
• Avoid extreme phrases like: `I strongly object' or `I
  disagree'. ‘I would like to differ’
• Instead use phrases like: `I would like to share my
  views on…' `What I see differently is’ . ' or ‘I see it
  this way too,’ ‘Well your viewpoint is a new
  learning for me today’, I would like to add..’
• Panel is looking for qualities: Good
  Communicator, People and Inter-Personal skills,
  Emotional maturity and Balance. The Clarity of
  thought, Leadership, Inspirer, Alertness,
  Creativity, Presence of mind, Problem-solving and
  Team player abilities without alienating certain
  members and achieving the objective of the topic.
• The ability to analyze see multiple perspectives.
10. GD’s
• Some GD Faux Pa’s which may occur:
• Emotional Responses and outbursts- take
  care you do not be reactive.
• Communicate with each and every candidate
  present. While speaking don't keep looking at
  a single member. Address the entire group in
  such a way that everyone feels you are
  speaking to him or her.
11. GD’s Addressing in a GD:
•   Do not address anyone by name, best to say Sir, Madam as
    the gender maybe or address the group as Friends.
•   Use formal language, not the language used in normal
    conversations eg: words and phrases like " yeah”, “Ya”,
    “yar", "chalta hai", "CP", "I dunno", “what I mean”, ‘You
    know” etc. are out. Hindi just in case you want to make a
    point clearer to be used rarely.
•   Confidence and calmness while speaking out your
    viewpoint are of help. See that you do not keep repeating a
    point. Do not use more words than necessary. Do not
    exaggerate.
•   Work harder on your GK, be tuned in to current affairs,
    regularly read newspapers and magazines.
•   Your are on test as employer wants just the best – one who
    he need not work on right from scratch. Articulate well,
    generate ideas, do not sound boring, allow others into the
    GD to speak, and adopt a stand on a given point/subject.
    During the course of the GD this stand can even be
    changed, giving the impression that you are open to
    accommodate others' viewpoints.
12.Do’s at the PI
• Also revert to slides 2 to 5. All information as given in
  the GD about self and attire stands same.
• Ensure you have atleast 6 copies of your CV in different
  files, to enable each one on the panel to have access of
  one copy each.
• When handing over, please give the file with the
  information or title facing the interviewer so that he just
  opens up and ‘presto’ he can start reading.
• Flag/tag each attachment or certificate/annexure with
  small coded alphabets eg: CV…. E.CERT- Educational
  Certificates.…Exp. Experience Certs…. REF- Reference
  letters
13.Don’t/s at the PI
• If you do not have an answer, say so and
  apologize- do not make up one- you will get
  entangled too far.
• Do not fidget with your personal self or attire. Sit
  with your Butt in the bucket of the chair when
  asked to- not at the end of the chair which many
  do – due to nervousness.
• Never hold a pen in your hand and speak- its
  equal to digging our your interviewer’s eyeballs.
  Or shows that you are being rude. So no props
  in the hand.
14-PI
General:
1. Tell me something about yourself.
2. Tell me 3 most important events of your life.
3. Give me 3 of your major accomplishments.
4. If you were to change an experience or two in life, what
   would you change?
5. Describe yourself in 3 words.
6. What have you done in recently to reach your recent goals
   you have set for your future?
7. What has been your most difficult task/experience?
8. How do you feel about working in groups? Do you tend to
   play a particular role? (show understanding, value,
   teamwork).
9. How much do you want to make in this job?
10.What are your greatest strengths/ Weaknesses?
15-PI
11. What kind of superior/ Boss would you prefer?
12. What is your greatest weakness?
13. What does “success” mean to you?
14. Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
15. What is more important to you Money or job?
16. Whom do you admire and why?
17. How long will it take you to make a meaningful
    contribution to our firm?
18. What has been your biggest challenge?
19. What types of people rub you the wrong way?
20. Are you creative/innovative…give an example.
21. 21.Can you walk the talk.
22. Are you a trusting person, or do you reserve judgment?
23. Do you feel comfortable asking for help?
24. Do you get along with peers?
16-PI
24. Have you ever worked with someone you didn't like?
25. Have you had problems getting along with others?
26. How do you get information from a peers?
27. How tolerant are you of others' opinions?
28. How well do you cooperate?
29. How do you influence someone to agree with your ideas?
30. Describe an important goal you have set and tell me how
    you reached it?
31. Describe how you have been able to apply something you
    learned from your degree program to a real-life or work-
    related situation.
32. Describe a (recent) project in which you failed? What did
    you learn from this?
33. Describe a (recent) situation in which you asked for
    advice?
34. Describe a (recent) situation in which you asked for help?

Gd & pi simplified ppt

  • 1. 1. GDs • Being the initiator gives an edge. You finish quite a lot of matter on the topic. • Give & accept ideas courteously. Second opinions yet expected to add more points/inputs with value. • Giving a non-speaker an opportunity, triggers your entry/ intrusion opportunity. • Keep points short, crisp and simple. • Contribute meaningfully, be slow and sure in delivering politely. • Substantiate with examples. Give solutions on the topic –do not add hurdles or problems- no if’s and but’s.
  • 2. 2. GDs & PI: GD is to gauge mettle, prior to further entry. 1. Communication skills (Vocabulary, pronunciation and élan style in speech). 2. Academic awareness (Updated knowledge). & SME 3. World wise informed (global awareness). 4. Competence in working in groups (Team spirit) & Listening skills. 5. Dress sense & comfort zones (corporate and power dressing). First impression influences. 6. Leadership qualities (take initiative, give direction to group, ability to take group along, idea feeder, attaining the GD/topic goal) 7. Analytical abilities (examples, logic, relation to topic, adhering) 8. Clarity of thoughts …Conviction (strengths in discussion) 9. Flexibility and co-operative attitudes (approach & open to other ideas). 10. Interviewers/ Colleges need readymade employable candidates. It is their pride with no extra effort from their side in future too. Check your X factor.
  • 3. 3. GD’s & PI • Do’s • Speak politely & pleasantly and politely to the group. • Respect the contribution of every speaker. • Remember that a discussion is not an argument. Learn to disagree politely. • Think about your contribution before you speak. • Stick to the GD topic. Don't be irrelevant /digress. • Be aware of your body language when you are speaking. • Agree and acknowledge what you find interesting.
  • 4. 4. GD’s & PI • Don'ts • Lose your temper. A discussion is not an argument. • Shout. Use a moderate tone and medium pitch. • Use too many gestures when you speak. Gestures like finger pointing and table thumping can appear aggressive. • Dominate the discussion. Confident speakers should allow quieter students a chance to contribute. • Draw too much on personal experience or anecdote, remember not to generalize too much. • Interrupt. Wait for a speaker to finish what they are saying before you speak.
  • 5. 5-Face the GD’s & PI’s • 1st - talk Effective & Efficiently, assertive not argumentative - Ability to convince by creating the right impact & passion. Hold attention but do not dominate- creates a positive impact. • Be precise and clear. Evaluators look for candidate’s knowledge on a given subject, hence do not stray away or digress/ carried away by others, stay focused. • Panel watches your ability to listen and then respond (logic). Listen carefully then proceed to add your view. Your behavior in the group is also judged whether you are a loner or a team worker. • Keep a confident level head. Be calm. Speak to express not impress.
  • 6. 6.GD -TIPS • Starting GD but not contributing later, gives an impression that you started the GD for getting those initial brownies earmarked for initiators. • If you start a GD- you are responsible for putting it into the right perspective/ frame/track, so initiate one only if you have in-depth knowledge or wait and watch and then get into the GD (safe to U/stand then contribute). • Quotes - an effective way of initiating a GD. Eg: “ Should the Censor Board be abolished?” You could start with a quote: 'Hidden apples are sweet'. • ‘Customer is King’ -You could quote this: ‘Sam (Wall-Mart) Walton's famous saying, 'There is only one boss: the customer. And he can fire everybody in the company -- from the chairman downwards, simply by spending his money somewhere else’. • Most GD’s do not really have conclusions as the whole group will never be in favor of one decision. Yet every GD is summarized. One can summaries what the group has discussed in a nutshell.
  • 7. 7- GD’s • Keep the following points in mind while summarizing a discussion: • Avoid raising new points. • Avoid stating only your viewpoint. • Avoid dwelling only on one aspect of the GD. • Keep it brief and concise. • It must incorporate all the important points that came out during the GD. • If the examiner asks you to summaries a GD, it means the GD has come to an end. • Do not add anything once the GD has been summarized.
  • 8. 8. Do’s at a GD’s • Be natural. GD is your chance voice your opinion. The evaluator wants to hear you speak. • Collect & collate your thoughts, before expressing it. • Seek clarification if you have doubts regarding the subject before the GD begins if you have any. • way of gaining attention & recognition, you have to back up your statement by giving valuable insights, or else all your efforts of initiating the GD will be lost / in vain. • Your BL reflects your mannerisms & attitude. • Language skills – How you get your points across clearly .

GD’s • Don't lose your cool if anyone says anything you object to. • Avoid extreme phrases like: `I strongly object' or `I disagree'. ‘I would like to differ’ • Instead use phrases like: `I would like to share my views on…' `What I see differently is’ . ' or ‘I see it this way too,’ ‘Well your viewpoint is a new learning for me today’, I would like to add..’ • Panel is looking for qualities: Good Communicator, People and Inter-Personal skills, Emotional maturity and Balance. The Clarity of thought, Leadership, Inspirer, Alertness, Creativity, Presence of mind, Problem-solving and Team player abilities without alienating certain members and achieving the objective of the topic. • The ability to analyze see multiple perspectives.
  • 10. 10. GD’s • Some GD Faux Pa’s which may occur: • Emotional Responses and outbursts- take care you do not be reactive. • Communicate with each and every candidate present. While speaking don't keep looking at a single member. Address the entire group in such a way that everyone feels you are speaking to him or her.
  • 11. 11. GD’s Addressing in a GD: • Do not address anyone by name, best to say Sir, Madam as the gender maybe or address the group as Friends. • Use formal language, not the language used in normal conversations eg: words and phrases like " yeah”, “Ya”, “yar", "chalta hai", "CP", "I dunno", “what I mean”, ‘You know” etc. are out. Hindi just in case you want to make a point clearer to be used rarely. • Confidence and calmness while speaking out your viewpoint are of help. See that you do not keep repeating a point. Do not use more words than necessary. Do not exaggerate. • Work harder on your GK, be tuned in to current affairs, regularly read newspapers and magazines. • Your are on test as employer wants just the best – one who he need not work on right from scratch. Articulate well, generate ideas, do not sound boring, allow others into the GD to speak, and adopt a stand on a given point/subject. During the course of the GD this stand can even be changed, giving the impression that you are open to accommodate others' viewpoints.
  • 12. 12.Do’s at the PI • Also revert to slides 2 to 5. All information as given in the GD about self and attire stands same. • Ensure you have atleast 6 copies of your CV in different files, to enable each one on the panel to have access of one copy each. • When handing over, please give the file with the information or title facing the interviewer so that he just opens up and ‘presto’ he can start reading. • Flag/tag each attachment or certificate/annexure with small coded alphabets eg: CV…. E.CERT- Educational Certificates.…Exp. Experience Certs…. REF- Reference letters
  • 13. 13.Don’t/s at the PI • If you do not have an answer, say so and apologize- do not make up one- you will get entangled too far. • Do not fidget with your personal self or attire. Sit with your Butt in the bucket of the chair when asked to- not at the end of the chair which many do – due to nervousness. • Never hold a pen in your hand and speak- its equal to digging our your interviewer’s eyeballs. Or shows that you are being rude. So no props in the hand.
  • 14. 14-PI General: 1. Tell me something about yourself. 2. Tell me 3 most important events of your life. 3. Give me 3 of your major accomplishments. 4. If you were to change an experience or two in life, what would you change? 5. Describe yourself in 3 words. 6. What have you done in recently to reach your recent goals you have set for your future? 7. What has been your most difficult task/experience? 8. How do you feel about working in groups? Do you tend to play a particular role? (show understanding, value, teamwork). 9. How much do you want to make in this job? 10.What are your greatest strengths/ Weaknesses?

What is more important to you Money or job? 16. Whom do you admire and why? 17. How long will it take you to make a meaningful contribution to our firm? 18. What has been your biggest challenge? 19. What types of people rub you the wrong way? 20. Are you creative/innovative…give an example. 21. 21.Can you walk the talk. 22. Are you a trusting person, or do you reserve judgment? 23. Do you feel comfortable asking for help? 24. Do you get along with peers?
