 Tata Group has emerged as biggest CSR spending group in
the country. As per a media report an Indian
conglomerate, the Tata Group spent Rs 1,000 crore on
corporate social responsibility (CSR) in 2013-14.
According to Times of India, If one were to exclude the
salt-to-software enterprise’s philanthropic trusts, the Tata
Group companies spent Rs 660 crore on CSR in the just
ended fiscal.
 The diversified Indian multinational’s CSR spend was well
above 2% of its net profit, a minimum requirement for an
Indian company under the Companies Act.

 Curative and preventive health services were rendered to
295,075 community members;
 Scholarships for higher studies were awarded to 891 students;
 School infrastructure was developed for 100 schools;
 Vocational training was imparted to 1048 youth;
 Technical training was provided to 1542 youth;
 Green cover was increased by planting 290,850 trees;
 Potable water solutions with support from the Sumant
Moolgaonkar Development Foundation (SMDF) provided to
100 villages
 Donations (including donation of vehicles) to help 52 NGOs for

Ngo
 Mumbai, in collaboration with Aseema, an NGO based in
Mumbai, recently undertook a sapling plantation drive
together with the students of the Gazdar Park Manekji
Municipal Secondary English School, Santa Cruz, Mumbai.
 The drive was aimed at creating awareness of the
Environment Day, while highlighting the importance and
role of every young citizen in promoting sustainability.
The sapling plantation initiative saw a large participation
 In 2007, Taj set up its first training centre in partnership with
Pratham, an NGO (non-government organisation) that works for the
cause of providing education to underprivileged youth. The centre
aimed to provide training in hotel industry processes such as food
production, housekeeping and food and beverage services to
disadvantaged youth from the rural areas of Maharashtra’s
Aurangabad district.
 Pratham built a training facility in Khaultabad and persuaded local
youth to participate in the training programmes, while Taj provided
the curriculum, training of faculty, guidance for setting up the
training infrastructure, industrial exposure and on-the-job training; it
even provided Taj staff as visiting faculty. With the success of this
pilot, Taj went on to tie up with other NGOs across the country to
set up more such hospitality training centres.

Women empowerment and
development of rural area
 Tata Steel Tata Steel has adopted the Corporate Citizenship
Index, Tata Business Excellence Model and the Tata Index for
Sustainable Development. Tata Steel spends 5-7 per cent of its
profit after tax on several CSR initiatives. (a) Self-Help Groups
(SHG’s) Over 500 self-help groups are currently operating
under various poverty alleviation programs; out of which over
200 are engaged in activities of income generation thorough
micro enterprises.
 Women empowerment programs through Self-Help Groups
have been extended to 700 villages.
 providing portable water to rural communities 2,600 tube
wells have been installed for the benefit of over four Lakh
people.
Health education
 Healthcare Projects In its 100th year, the Tata Steel
Centenary Project has just been announced. The
healthcare projects of Tata Steel include facilitation of
child education, immunization and childcare, plantation
activities, creation of awareness of AIDS and other
healthcare projects.

Chhattisgarh
 Economic Empowerment A program aiming at economic
empowerment through improvised agriculture has been
taken up in three backward tribal blocks in Jharkhand,
Orissa and Chhattisgarh. An expenditure of Rs 100 crore
has been estimated for the purpose and this program is
expected to benefit 40,000 tribal living in over 400
villages in

 Self Help Groups (SHGs) formed by Tata Steel through its
Corporate Social Responsibility arm Tata Steel Rural
Development Society (TSRDS) has helped in providing
sustainable livelihood opportunities to more than 3,000
rural households. More than 90 per cent of these SHGs
are run exclusively by women, thereby providing a
significant fillip to women’s empowerment in the state.
Tata Steel Organizes Free Dental
Check Up For Citizens of
Jamshedpur
 A free Dental Check-up camp was organized by Urban Services,
Tata Steel in partnership with Avadh Dental College and
Hospital, Jamshedpur at Kitadih Community Centre on April
23, 2012. The camp was attended by large number of patients
from the catchment area.
 About 250 people, mostly women and children had
participated in the programme and benefitted from this camp.
The camp received an overwhelming response from the
community at large. The residents, visitors, and the
Community Committee members urged for such camps on
regular basis so that the less privileged sections of the society
can benefit and lead a healthy life.

of affirmative action into their organisational framework
and community development initiatives

  • 5.  Tata Group has emerged as biggest CSR spending group in the country. As per a media report an Indian conglomerate, the Tata Group spent Rs 1,000 crore on corporate social responsibility (CSR) in 2013-14. According to Times of India, If one were to exclude the salt-to-software enterprise’s philanthropic trusts, the Tata Group companies spent Rs 660 crore on CSR in the just ended fiscal.  The diversified Indian multinational’s CSR spend was well above 2% of its net profit, a minimum requirement for an Indian company under the Companies Act.

  • 13.  In 2007, Taj set up its first training centre in partnership with Pratham, an NGO (non-government organisation) that works for the cause of providing education to underprivileged youth. The centre aimed to provide training in hotel industry processes such as food production, housekeeping and food and beverage services to disadvantaged youth from the rural areas of Maharashtra’s Aurangabad district.  Pratham built a training facility in Khaultabad and persuaded local youth to participate in the training programmes, while Taj provided the curriculum, training of faculty, guidance for setting up the training infrastructure, industrial exposure and on-the-job training; it even provided Taj staff as visiting faculty. With the success of this pilot, Taj went on to tie up with other NGOs across the country to set up more such hospitality training centres.

Tata Steel spends 5-7 per cent of its profit after tax on several CSR initiatives. (a) Self-Help Groups (SHG’s) Over 500 self-help groups are currently operating under various poverty alleviation programs; out of which over 200 are engaged in activities of income generation thorough micro enterprises.  Women empowerment programs through Self-Help Groups have been extended to 700 villages.  providing portable water to rural communities 2,600 tube wells have been installed for the benefit of over four Lakh people.

Tata Steel Organizes Free Dental Check Up For Citizens of Jamshedpur  A free Dental Check-up camp was organized by Urban Services, Tata Steel in partnership with Avadh Dental College and Hospital, Jamshedpur at Kitadih Community Centre on April 23, 2012. The camp was attended by large number of patients from the catchment area.  About 250 people, mostly women and children had participated in the programme and benefitted from this camp. The camp received an overwhelming response from the community at large. The residents, visitors, and the Community Committee members urged for such camps on regular basis so that the less privileged sections of the society can benefit and lead a healthy life.
