STATEMENT
This limited edition photographic series uses 250 meters of Khalsa orange cotton turban
material from India (the longest continuous length available) to abstract the Hudson Valley
landscape. In Hindu, Khalsa means pure—something we all long and strive to be. In the spirit
of Andy Goldsworthy and Christo, the fabric and color allows the landscape to be treated as
an infinite canvas through which stories and experiences are expressed. When printed on a
fine, matte Cranes paper, these digital images are rendered with saturated warm tones that
bring out both the textures of the images and the tooth of the paper. The fabric becomes a string
of events which connects and inspires those who discover its travels. The quest for wisdom
and purity is best represented in nature, which informs and inspires all of my work. In future
series, this ongoing project will continue in other parts of the world. —Laetitia Hussain
