1. Data Warehouse Introduction/Proposal
A Data Warehouse is:
Subject oriented
Integrated
Time-variant
Nonvolatile collection of data
Used in support of management decisions.

2. Data Warehouse Relevancy To Hi
Ed
• Few institutions have all of the major institutional
data areas available
• Most start with either student data, human resources,
or finance data
• Goal is to evolve toward a comprehensive set of
standard data elements and repeatable reports

3. Rivier Data Warehousing
Challenges
• Data Collection
– Data is locked in different systems
– Manual processes required to extract available data
• Reporting
– Administrators scramble to pull data from different sources
– Work is tedious, time-consuming and driven by deadlines
• Analysis
– Lack of standard process or identification of data needed
– Data analysis is basic and non-conclusive
• Information Distribution
– Information is manually updated and sometimes duplicated
– Much of the information and results are not consistent or
traceable
4. Goals…..
• Improvement in long term planning through timely,
accurate report delivery
• Standardized, repeatable process to move data from CAMS
and eventually other systems to Data Warehouse
• Ability to move information into Data Warehouse multiple
times per term using Term Id + Sequence Identifier
• An improvement in proactive decision making through
access to higher quality, readily available data
• Standardized Crystal Reports using data sources all from
the specified period so that numbers do not change
• Timing: Test run end of SU08, Production end of FA08

6. Next Steps…..
• Identify CAMS TABLES to be included/copied/frozen in
Data Warehouse process
• Build processes to move the identified tables and add Term
and Sequence Identifiers to all tables
• Develop/Modify Crystal Reports and dashboards to point
to Data Warehouse
• Staff Education/Documentation
