Planetek Italia s.r.l. has defined off-the-shelf added value products, named Preciso® Land, based on the integration of Very High Resolution (VHR) Earth Observation data (namely WorldView-2) with traditional cartographic data. The challenge has been to design value-added mapping products and standardized procedure to derive objective environmental indicators, useful for the decision-making process. Preciso® Land is appreciated as the most promising source for the derivation of an important territory indicator: the Soil Loss Index.

Adapting to the consequences of climate change in urbanised regions are of increasing importance in most parts of the world. This PhD study contributes with methods and knowledge regarding how planning of urban areas can be used as a tool to reduce impacts from transportation. The research focus on the development of land use and transportation models, that will be used to illustrate how different paths of future urban development can reduce transportation demands and thereby the related impacts on the climate and environment. The demands for transportation are generated from a many different human activities. Modelling where people locate themselves in urban areas in relation to the placement of their opportunities (works, shopping etc.), is important part of describing how the impacts from transportation will evolve. The work conducted focus on three future pathways from the PASHMINA project, where different future development strategies are proposed. The methodologies applied vary from different GIS analysis, to land use change simulations conducted with in the ‘Land Use Change Impact Analysis’ (LUCIA) Cellular automata model, highlighting the consequences of future planning strategies The results from this PhD study shows of how spatial planning can utilize advanced GIS techniques to gain valuable insight into the outcomes of different planning strategies. The results illustrate the potential improvements on sustainability that could be achieved, if planning practice where to change from the current patterns. Amongst others, factors such as urban proximity, public transportation accessibility and job proximity have been evaluated in the work with the scenarios. Furthermore well as methodologies for traffic impact analysis and population density measures that have been suggested, all demonstrating that the potential gains from rethinking the urban landscape through planning strategy.

The population and urbanization of Morocco are increasing very rapidly. They have risenin large cities due to heavy immigration rate from rural areas to accessjob opportunities, better education, and better health facilities. Casablanca has the most affected land use changes in Morocco because of the immigration. This paper presents anintegrated study of land use change in this city from 1986 until 2011 using topographic map sheets (1986) and satellite image (2011). The layers of landuse map (1986) were obtainedby digitization technique in ARCGIS 9.3 software. Supervised classification methodology has been employed using maximum likelihood technique in ERDAS IMAGINE (2011) to extract from the satellite image four classes which were categorized into, built-up area, public green spaces, agricultural land and water bodies. The totalarea of each class was estimated by using geometry tools of ArcGISsoftware to compare land use changes between 1986 and 2011.

This presentation shows an online multi-query path planner for exploration tasks planned onboard an unmanned helicopter. While the desirable properties of roadmaps can be exploited in offline path planning, the dynamic nature of exploration scenarios hinders to utilize conventional roadmap planners. Hence, the presented path planning approach utilizes a deterministically sampled roadmap which is dynamically indexed in real time. To address situations of partial terrain knowledge, the roadmap can be extended from its a priori dimensions towards locations of unknown terrain that are outside its original, a priori boundaries. The multi-query property of the planning system allows for combinatorial optimization such that a rapidly acting decisional autonomy is achievable during exploration flights. D*-Lite is used as dynamic heuristic path searcher in order to re-plan efficiently. Inspired by the original work on this path search algorithm, the roadmap graph is augmented with an exploration vertex which steers the exploration behavior of the vehicle. As a result, the presented roadmap guides an unmanned rotorcraft through a priori unknown urban terrain in real time.

In urban mobility, map-matching aims to project GPS points generated by moving objects onto the road segments representing the actual object positions. Up to now, map-matching has found interesting applications in traffic analysis, frequent path extraction, and location prediction. However, state-of-art implementations of map-matching algorithms are either private, sequential or inefficient. In this paper, we propose an extension of an existing serial algorithm of known efficiency by reformulating it in a distributed way, in order to achieve great scalability on real big data scenarios. Furthermore, we enhance the robustness of the algorithm, which is based on a first-order Hidden Markov Model, by introducing a smart strategy to avoid gaps in the matched road segments; indeed, this problem may occur under sparse GPS sampling or in urban areas with highly fragmented road segments. Our implementation is based on Apache Spark and is publicly available on Github. The implementation is tested against a dataset with 7.8 million GPS points in Milan.

Semantic 3D City Models are the basis of a new generation of virtual reality. The most relevant objects within a city including manmade and natural objects are mapped to objects within a semantic 3D city model. These objects are classified, further substructured (e.g. a building is decomposed into roof and wall parts etc.), attributed, and have spatial and semantic relations to other objects. The international standard CityGML issued by the Open Geospatial Consortium provides a common vocabulary and definitions for describing and managing urban entities which enables interoperability over the many different cities all over the world. This presentation shows how CityGML based semantic 3D city models are used to link data from diverse application fields like energy planning, disaster management, and environmental analyses on a stable ground. Special focus is on the support of strategic energy planning, demonstrated for the research project "Energy Atlas Berlin" that was funded by the "Climate KIC" of the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT). We show the city-wide estimation of the energy demands of buildings including heating, electricity and warm water energy in the city of Berlin using available official geobase and statistical data integrated within the Energy Atlas Berlin. The tools have been mostly developed at the chair of Geoinformatics at Technische Universität München (TUM). They are now being further developed in follow-up projects and applied with housing companies, energy suppliers, and urban retrofitting initiatives. For further information see the references on the last two slides.

In the contemporaneity, the issues of land or soil consumption and of the protection of areas that, within the urban areas, provide ecosystem services (ESs) is becoming increasingly important also in relationof the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. The concept of "Ecosystem Service" appears, in this respect, a fruitful support to define the land consumption effects on the loss of functionality and of settlement quality. Following this considerations the paper presents the first results of a research developed in Tuscany and commissioned by the Regional Government. The research aims to measure the loss of ESs in connection with land use / land cover transformations, and to verify the contribution of soil consumption to these variations. The research use methodologies for elaborating of the geographical data required for territorial governance, LUCL 2010/2016 and Land Cover Flow (LCF) model and the theoretical model of the “Capacity matrix” to provide ecosystem services.

C. R. Fichera, G. Modica, M. Pollino (2011). Presented at "Computational Science and Its Applications - ICCSA 2011 International Conference", Santander, Spain, June 20-23, 2011. A relevant issue in Remote Sensing (RS) and GIS is related to the analysis and the characterization of Land Use Land Cover (LULC) changes, very useful for a wide range of environmental applications and to efficiently undertake landscape planning and management policies. The methodology described has been applied to a case-study conducted in the area of the Province of Avellino (Southern Italy). Firstly, aerial photos and Landsat imagery have been classified to produce LULC maps for a fifty-year period (1954÷2004). Then, through a GIS approach, change detection and spatiotemporal analysis has been integrated to characterize LULC dynamics, focusing on the urban-rural gradient. This study has shown that LULC patterns and their changes are linked to both natural and social processes whose driving role has been clearly demonstrated: after the disastrous Irpinia earthquake (1980), local specific zoning laws and urban plans have significantly addressed landscape changes.

Created by Mozilla Research in 2012 and now part of Linux Foundation Europe, the Servo project is an experimental rendering engine written in Rust. It combines memory safety and concurrency to create an independent, modular, and embeddable rendering engine that adheres to web standards. Stewardship of Servo moved from Mozilla Research to the Linux Foundation in 2020, where its mission remains unchanged. After some slow years, in 2023 there has been renewed activity on the project, with a roadmap now focused on improving the engine’s CSS 2 conformance, exploring Android support, and making Servo a practical embeddable rendering engine. In this presentation, Rakhi Sharma reviews the status of the project, our recent developments in 2023, our collaboration with Tauri to make Servo an easy-to-use embeddable rendering engine, and our plans for the future to make Servo an alternative web rendering engine for the embedded devices industry. With more memory available, system performance of three Dell devices increased, which can translate to a better user experience Conclusion When your system has plenty of RAM to meet your needs, you can efficiently access the applications and data you need to finish projects and to-do lists without sacrificing time and focus. Our test results show that with more memory available, three Dell PCs delivered better performance and took less time to complete the Procyon Office Productivity benchmark. These advantages translate to users being able to complete workflows more quickly and multitask more easily. Whether you need the mobility of the Latitude 5440, the creative capabilities of the Precision 3470, or the high performance of the OptiPlex Tower Plus 7010, configuring your system with more RAM can help keep processes running smoothly, enabling you to do more without compromising performance.

Microsoft's Threat Matrix for Kubernetes helps organizations understand the attack surface a Kubernetes deployment introduces to their environments. This ensures that adequate detections and mitigations are in place. By covering over 40 different attacker techniques, defenders can learn about Kubernetes-specific mitigations and controls to deploy to their environments. In this session, we will explore the MS-TA9013 Host Path Mount technique, which is commonly used by attackers to perform privilege escalation in a Kubernetes cluster. Attendees will learn how attackers and defenders can: * Escape the container's host volume mount to gain persistence on an underlying node * Move laterally from the underlying node into the customer's cloud environment * Analyze Kubernetes audit logs to detect pods deployed with a hostPath mount * Deploy an admission controller that prevents new pods from using a hostPath mount
