o SMILE - Social Media in Learning and Education
 April 2012 - March 2013 (Facebook Digital Citizenship Research
Grant)
 Online learning laboratory for 100 teachers from the 30 member
states of European Schoolnet (EUN) to investigate and embrace the
educational opportunities social media offers;
 Research with the learning laboratory participants to highlight
trends and best practices for how social media is being used and
can be used in classrooms;
 Broad dissemination of the research results
through EUN’s interactive portals for teachers,
as well as through European and international
meetings and conferences.

What is moving?

o Consultation on “Opening up Education - a proposal for a
European Initiative to enhance education and skills
development through new technologies”
 Last quarter of 2012: EC Communication on Rethinking Skills
aiming to increase the quantity, quality and relevance of skills supply
for higher economic and social outcomes.

 Exploit the potential contribution of ICTs and Open
