• A glide is a consonant whose sound is characterized by a
movement of the articulators from one position to another.
Glides are sometimes referred to as semi-vowels or semi
consonants.

These are the consonant sounds of “r” in English, the
“American” or “touched” [r] and the British or “flipped” [r]. The
choice between these is a matter of textual and musical styles as

in singing English except for dramatic or comic effect.
