Facts:
• The Sun is in fact a Star.
• The Sun is 110 times wider than The earth
• The Sun provides light to all objects and planets in the
solar system.
• Provides heat to the planets it reaches in our solar
system.
• The light from the sun take 8 minutes to reach Earth.
• The temperature of the Sun:
Outside: over 9000 degrees Fahrenheit
Inside: over 13 million degrees Fahrenheit

4. Mercury
Facts:
• Closest Planet to the Sun
• A year on Mercury is only 88
days.
• Temperature:
• A cool 750 Degrees Fahrenheit in
the day
• A warm -328 degrees Fahrenheit at
night.
• Mercury can be seen at night
without a telescope
• Surface is covered in craters
due to comic collisions and is
not able to hold life.
• No Satellites (Moons)

5. Venus
Facts:
• One year on Venus is 224 days on
Earth.
• The brightest planet visible from
Earth without a telescope and can
even be seen in the daytime.
• No Satellites (Moons)
• Hottest planet in the Solar System at
a whopping 860 degrees Fahrenheit.

6. Earth
Facts:
• Only planet in the Solar System that has liquid water.
• Only planet that has life inside our solar system.
• Has one satellite orbiting around planet that we call the Moon.
• 365 days to finish a single year
• The slight tilt of the Earth is what gives us the seasons Spring, Summer, Autumn
and Winter.
• The only planet that contains an atmosphere and over 21% oxygen which allows
us all to breath.
7. Mars
Facts:
• The Last of the inner planets also known as the Terrestrial planets.
• One year on Mars is Aprox. 687 days.
• Temperature during the day get around a scorching 23 degrees Fahrenheit, -
125 degrees Fahrenheit at night.
• Home to the biggest mountain in the Solar System called Olympus Mons.
• Has no Atmosphere.
• No Satellites orbiting around planet.
• Known as the Red planet due to its color.
• Shows signs of polar ice caps, but the caps were lost long ago when the
Atmosphere disappeared causing them to melt and ultimately disappear.
9. Jupiter
Facts:
• The largest planet in the Solar System.
• One Earth Year on Jupiter is 11.9 years or just over 4,344 Earth days.
• The location known as the Red Spot is actually a continuously raging storm that
never ends.
• Jupiter is the biggest Gas Giant in the Solar System.
• There are 64 satellites orbiting this massive planet.
10. Saturn
Facts:
• One of three planets in the Solar
System to have rings.
• Saturn has 18 moons orbiting around
it.
• Second Largest Planet in the Solar
System after Jupiter.
• It takes 29.5 years to orbit the Sun.
• There are three main groups of rings
labeld A, B, and C, but there are also
thinner rings within those.
• The rings are made up of small pieces
of satellites and planets that have
been impacted along with space dust
and ice caught in Saturn’s orbit.
11. Uranus
Facts:
• Can only be seen using a Telescope
• Has 27 satellites orbiting.
• Takes 84 Earth years to complete one
orbit around the Sun.
• Uranus is the smallest of the Gas
Giant, but is still bigger than the
earth.
• Has rings but are very feint to see.
• It’s rings are not horizontal like its
brother Saturn, instead they are
more vertical theorized to have
happened after the planet was hit by
a large object.
12. Neptune
Facts:
• It takes 165 Earth years to complete one orbit around the Sun.
• 13 satellites orbit the planet.
• Neptune’s Satellite Triton orbits in the opposite direction that Neptune turns in.
• Last and smallest Gas Giant in the Solar System.
• Has received new and feint rings, six in all, over the years.
• So stormy that winds get upwards of over 1000 MPH
• Neptune is 17 times larger than Earth

below, and explore the Solar System using the web
tool NASA has created.
Step 2) Find a Planet that you like and draw a
picture using colored pencils and markers.
Step 3) Teach your classmates next to you what
you have learned about that planet.
