2. Purpose of this guide
Over the last 5 years, many people have asked me how to get started podcasting and how to shoot
better videos, so I thought why not put together a guide with all my recommended gear. So here it
is.
While it’s not every piece of gear you could ever need, but it is what I have and what I recommend
to those that I coach, and it’s the least expensive version I’ve found. If there is a newer version of
the hardware you find, you may want to go with it, or you may opt to save a few dollars and get last
year’s model. With software, it’s all subscription based so you automatically get the latest version of
software to use.
3. Microphone -
ATR 2100
• You need a quality microphone for your
show, as bad sound quality is the number
one reason people will stop listening and
watching your show.
• The ATR 2100 is a handheld dynamic
microphone with USB digital output and
XLR analog output. The USB output
connects to your computer for digital
recording, while the XLR output connects
with your sound system conventional
microphone input for use in live
performance. Smooth, extended frequency
response ideally suited for podcasting, home
studio recording, field recording, voiceover,
and on-stage use. Built-in headphone jack
allows you to directly monitor your
microphone output without audible delay.

4. Microphone Stand
• If you don’t want to put your stand on your desk, or you want to feel
more like a radio disc jockey, get a nice microphone stand.

5. Green Screen
• A green screen allows you to swap out
your background with any other
background if you want to. It also will

6. Green screen stand
• If you get a green screen, you need a stand or your green screen will
fall over.

7. Green screen clamps
• You need to connect your green screen to the stand, and

8. HD Webcam –

will be grainy on bigger screens.

9. Ring Light for Home
Office
• At home, you’ll have more space when you’re
on the road, so set up your office nicely with

10. Lighting
(inexpensive)
• Sometimes you need even more light for your videos. If you do,

item, with Spotlight effect, Diffuse effect, and for reducing the

well as tripods and light stands equipped with a hot shoe mount
or 1/4" thread.

11. iPhone 8 Plus (or X Plus
or XR Plus) 256 GB
• The ease of shooting video and recording with
my iPhone makes it my device of choice. I
recommend getting the Plus because the screen is
larger and the video quality is better than on the
smaller devices. I have an 8 Plus and it is terrific.
If you’re upgrading from the 6 or 7, go all the
way to the X or XR Plus.
• No link here – just go to your cell phone retailer
and get one. They’re all the same to me.
12. Ring Light for your Cell
Phone
• Sometimes you’ll travel and want to shoot good video, and seldom do
you get to bring all of your gear. This ring light will light up your video
when you’re using your cell phone.
• Rechargeable with USB Cord. This ring light includes a built-in
rechargeable battery so you do not need extra batteries. Money saved and
free from annoying battery replacement. Brightness Adjustable. Three-
level light settings for various uses -- make-up, selfie photos, dark
scenery vlogging etc. Let this ring light highlight you and darken
everything behind you. Compact and Light Weight. Pocket sized and
extremely compact, it will not take much space in your bag. Take it with
you anywhere you go and record all happy moments in your life!

• If you’re going to do video with your camera, you need
a quality Bluetooth mic. This mic is the best one I’ve
ever used, and it hides on your lapel so it won’t interfere
with anything else.
• Hey Mic! is for speakers and presenters, video bloggers,
trainers and teachers and anyone who makes videos
and wants great audio on the go. (Note: Facebook Live
and Youtube Live do NOT support Hey Mic!)
14. Record Your Show – Push
to YouTube and Facebook
Live with Zoom.us webinars
• Zoom.us is fantastic for pushing your
videos to YouTube and Facebook.
• It’s also great for private coaching.
• The webinar feature also automatically
transcribes your show if you record your
show to the cloud, a feature you can set
up by default or on a show by show
basis.

15. Branded Facebook
Lives with BeLive
• My favorite platform for branded Facebook Lives is
BeLive. All you need is a Facebook account and a paid
subscription and this tool will let you do solo casts,
interview style, and talk show format.
16. Host Your Podcast – Libsyn.com
• Your podcast needs to live
somewhere NOT on your
website. My preferred
podcast host is Libsyn.
They’re easy to work with,
and they integrate with all
the places you need to
distribute your podcast.
17. Planning for
future episodes
and guests with
Hellocast.co
• One of the things I struggle with is
keeping all my guest info in one
spot. Hellocast.co makes this
SUPER easy!
18. Otter.ai - Transcribe your conversations, videos and podcasts
• The phone app will
transcribe your
conversations in real time.
• The website will take an
audio or video file and
transcribe it for you.
19. Extra tools
• http://repurpose.io
Automatically publish your audio
and video content to multiple
platforms and grow your audience
faster.
• http://zubtitle.com
Zubtitle is a video caption tool that
automatically adds captions to your
videos.
