- So what is “the power of one”… it’s the exact opposite of distributed computing, a model which forces IT to manage 1000s of desktops and PCs across a far flung enterprise and 1000s of servers across multiple datacenters… installing, updating, securing, patching and managing applications and images on each of them independently. And this situation isn’t getting any better. The velocity of change on all fronts is going through the roof. - To adopt a cloud like mentality, we actually encourage IT leaders to look outside of the IT industry for inspiration… to look to industries who never got into the mess we have in IT through years of distributed computing complexity…Take an example like Direct TV or any of the other popular broadcast media delivery services around the world. - One thing you can expect from Citrix this year to make it even easier for IT organizations to help employees work from anywhere is the exciting new “Citrix Receiver”…
- XenClient is based on the award winning Xen hypervisor. If you were to see a system booting up and could view all the boot messages you would see that right after the hardware comes up and the BIOS messages pass then the Xen hypervisor would load up on the system. Xen is really small, in fact its only 60-70k lines of code. Xen’s job is to cut up the hardware resources on the system and provide them to the virtual machines on top.At this point if you kept watching you would see what looks like a Linux system booting which we call the control domain. What actually is happening is we boot a tiny privileged Linux VM that runs our agent and also hosts drivers that drive the underlying hardware. At this point you would then load up one of more user VMs running Windows.

XS, meanwhile, is ideal for Linux, mixed Windows/Linux, high performance and cloud environments.
