In this presentation I'll show how you can take data from the 3D world of MapInfo Pro and show it in the 3D environment of MapInfo Discover 3D. I'll show this using polygons as well as point data

• You can take any map and a DTM or DSM and show this in the
3D environment of Discover 3D

• The DTM is just the terrain – no elements on the ground like
buildings, forests and trees

• The DSM is the surface of the earth, including buildings, forests
and trees

7. Converting 2D objects to 3D
• You can add top, bottom and sides to a MapInfo object using the
3D Extrusion Wizard

8. Converting 2D objects to 3D
• In step 2 and 3 you specify the location of the bottom and top

• In step 6 you can specify if you want sides or not

• You can split the layer by a column or add all objects to the DEFAULT
LAYER

11. Visualizing a forest as trees
• First create the trees in the forest using the Object to Centroids tool

• Group the trees by forest using the Split Layer By Column tool

13. Visualizing a forest as trees
• Export the trees to Discover 3D as located images

14. Visualizing a forest as trees
• Open the trees as located images in the Discover 3D environment
• Add a new Located image to the workspace

15. Visualizing a forest as trees
• Go to the Properties of the new located image, select the trees
you exported from MapInfo Pro, click OK

16. Visualizing a forest as trees
• Set the back ground colour of the trees as translucent
