The report by Peter C. Austin, Jack V. Tu, Dennis T. Ku and David A. Alter, titled Factors

associated with the use of evidence-based therapies after discharge among elderly patients

with myocardial infarction, contributed greatly towards the establishment and development

of the thesis for this paper. The report was used to gain an insight into the functional trends

found generally amongst hospitals with regard to treatments options for patients who are well

in their age (Austin, Tu, Ko, & Alter, 2008). This analysis was streamlined for patients who

were suffering from the medical condition of myocardial infarction in particular. The report

was extremely productive in the fact that it allowed for an overview to be developed

regarding the subject matter.

It was concluded through the observation of this report that physicians are habitual of

choosing not to exercise treatments that are supported by the evidence present at hand in the

cases of a majority of their elder patients. The report served to bring forth the fact that out of

the many causes for this trend amongst physicians, the most probable one was the absence of

information regarding specific cardiac ailments in the physician’s mental store of knowledge.

By doing so, the report served to bring forth the conclusion that the currently present system

that is present to exercise the distribution of information amongst the medical community

lacks the required momentum that is required for the present scenario. It is also a matter of

primary significance that the information transferred through the currently present

information distribution is based upon legitimate studies and analysis and of a nature that

encourages physicians to continue their delving into the external stores of continuously

accumulating knowledge related to their line of work. This will allow physicians to be better

aware of information that they need to know in order to discourage the trend noted above.

Another journal article subjected to analysis in this literature review was Factors influencing

the participation of gastroenterologists and hepatologists in clinical research, by Anouk T

Dev, Teresa L Kauf, Amany Zekry , Keyur Patel, Karen Heller, Kevin A Schulman, and John

G McHutchison. The article stressed upon the leading causes that contributed to the

decreased participation of physicians in clinical trials (Dev, Kauf, Zekry, Patel, Heller, &

McHutchison, 2008).

A study of this article allowed the situation to be perceived in light of the study that had been

performed that encompassed the members of the American Medical Organization. The article

was extremely productive to the literature review since it allowed for an understanding to be

developed regarding the role that the financial and scientific positions of the physicians have

to play in their decision of not becoming part of the inquiries conducted. In this analysis, a

frame of reference was derived based upon which the research was conducted and the sample

was collected.

However, not all the research articles used in the literature review for this paper and later

incorporated served their purpose to the extent desired. There were a few that served to leave

certain deficiency in certain areas. One such element was found in: From Concept to

Application: The Impact of a Community-Wide Intervention to Improve the Delivery of

Preventive Services to Children, by Peter A. Margolis, Rachel Stevens, W. Clayton Bordley,

Jayne Stuart, Christina Harlan, Lynette Keyes-Elstein, and Steve Wisseh (Margolis, et al.,

2001). The article was extremely informative but did not appear to cover all the relevant areas

when compared to the other pieces of literature that were brought into analysis in this paper.
