I enjoyed following @CI350class on twitter because it kept me updated on current events
such as the Eric Garner case. The twitter account provided many facts about what recently
happened involving Eric Garner and cops in Chicago. The account also provided a lot of useful
information about backchannels, the importance of social media and myths about social media,
the importance of thinking critically, and useful info about new ways to easily incorporate
technology in the classroom. Professor Blanco also included links to check out in many of his
tweets about these topics. I liked reading the articles about technology, and reading his personal
opinions on certain topics. Although some of his tweets are about serious issues, I can tell that
he is a pretty funny guy!
Wiseinwv
@Wiseinwv is a twitter account packed with important information that students and
parents need to hear. It is working to institutionalize sex education in WV schools. The twitter
account’s primary goal is to reduce unintended pregnancy and STD rates. Some topics that
@wiseinwv tweets about are contraception, HIV, symptoms of STD’s, common STDs, and
equality in sexual health, along with many more information-packed topics! The account even
provides parents with info on how to talk to their kids about sex, something that many parents
aren’t doing at all these days. Support for pregnant women in the workplace can also be found
on this account. I absolutely love what this twitter page has to offer, and think that the topics
should be seen by everyone. I definitely support sex education.
Gwenethjones
This twitter account was made by Gweneth Jones, a teacher librarian, or library media
specialist. She is also a speaker and blogger with 20,200 followers, and known as the “daring
librarian.” I liked following her because although I do not plan on becoming a librarian, I
appreciate her many great library ideas. She has also posted about qr codes and different ways to
use them, a topic that I could relate to class. By taking a look at her blog, I noticed that not only
2. is she smart and library savvy, but she seems to be very good at blogging too. In my opinion,
she is a very intelligent lady with a great personality. I enjoyed following her.
Klhellerman - formerly known as @theteachinggame
Katie Hellerman is a teacher and trainer for new teachers. On her twitter account, she
explores strategies for creating “happy teachers, students, and schools.” She also has a blog at
theteachinggameblog.com. Although her blog contains some good information, I wasn’t very
impressed with her twitter. She posts a lot of pictures of Chicago that really don’t have much to
do with teaching, along with more personal pictures, like one of her new shoes, and another of
her dog. Although, there are a few great examples of tools that can be used in the classroom,
such as a graphic organizer to use for a skype activity that I thought was really cool, I did not
find as much useful material on this twitter. However, she seemed very upbeat and optimistic,
and I liked that about her. The few bits of advice that she had for new and young educators was
great.
Avivaloca – formerly known as @grade1
Aviva Dunsiger is a first grade teacher that has been teaching for over 13 years. She
began her teaching career in primary education, then switched to junior, and now she is once
again teaching primary. By looking at her twitter, I noticed that she is a very passionate teacher.
Although a lot of her posts are just back and forth conversations between herself and other
educators, she does have some useful/interesting information in there as well. There is one
article that I enjoyed about giving students time to come up with their own solutions rather than
solving problems for them. Her experience with this lesson was actually very sweet. There is
much more useful information on her blog than on her twitter, but she does post tweets with links
to her articles. You can find her blog at missdinsiger.commons.hwdsb.on.ca/2014/12/09/daily-shoot-
miss-dunsigers-class-day-68-2/. I enjoyed reading her blog posts, but if she hadn’t posted
links to her blog on her twitter, her tweets would not have had much substance. Still, I liked
reading what she had to say.
