3. BackgroundⅠ:
Nineteen Eighty-Four is quite arguably George Orwell's best
work, finished just before he died, which describes his
prophetic vision of the future in haunting detail. Published
in 1949, it is a typical political fiction and social science
fiction.
Orwell described an imaginary totalitarian society which is
terrible and choking, life is hopeless and mind was
controlled by party, through a detailed description of
ordinary people living in this society, revealing any form of
totalitarianism will inevitably lead to people or even the
whole country a tragedy.
The Last Man in Europe was one of the original titles for
the novel.
4. BackgroundⅡ:
in 1984, after a global war,nuclear weapon destoryed
previous social order and civilization process, the world
was divided by three intercontinental super-states, there
are Oceania, Eurasia and Eastasia.
The story happened In London, the Airstrip One capital
city of Oceania. The country actually was controlled by
party:Ingsoc (English Socialism), and Newspeak is its
official language.

The story began with Winston's journal. In his diary, he
doubted the power of Big Brother, started to review his
surroundings. No long, he intellectually rebelled against the
Party and fell in love with Julia, but his betray had beend
discoveryed and captured by thought plioce. Consequent
imprisonment, interrogation, torture, and re-education
made he covert and be loyal to party. At last, he became
an ilde drunk, accepted the thought theroy of party. He
recognized " he defeated himself. He loves big brother. ”

embodiment of the Party governing Oceania.
Ingsoc: A party control everything in Oceania.
telescreen: something like Closed-circuit television.
thought police: a kind of police which duty is to uncover and punish
