Question: Is surgery with the da Vinci system better
than traditional surgery?
Dr. Patrick Muffley: The da Vinci system does offer
certain advantages, namely smaller incisions, a
reduced risk of infection, shorter hospitals
stays, and more rapid recovery times. The system’s
robotic camera also provides doctors with a three-
dimensional view of the surgery site. Older
systems, like laparoscopy, are equipped with two-
dimensional cameras.
