• It is the capital and most
populous federal subject of
Russia. The city is a major
political, economic, cultural
and scientific development of
Russia and the continent.
Moscow is the northernmost
mega city on Earth, the second
largest city in Europe after
Istanbul and the sixth most
populous city in the world.
4. RELIGION
• Christianity is the predominant religion in the city, of which the
Russian Orthodox Church is the one with the largest number of
faithful. Moscow is Russia's capital of Orthodox Christianity. It has
been the country's traditional religion and is considered part of the
"heritage" of Russia in a law passed in 1997.16 Other religions
practiced in Moscow include Islam, Protestantism, Catholicism, Old
Believers, Buddhism and Judaism.
5. SPORT
• Moscow has always been
linked to sport. Since the days
of the USSR, where various
sports dominated so far the
Russian capital with facilities of
the highest standard as
Luzhniki Stadium (stadium by
UEFA elite) who have led the
city to host the Olympic
Games 1980, to appear finally
unsuccessfully to 2012 and
host international events such
as the UEFA Champions
League in 2008. The capital
will be one of the venues for
the World Cup 2018.
6. MARITIME
• Moscow has two passenger terminals
boats on the river and regular ship routes
and cruises along Moskva and Oka, which
are used mostly for entertainment. The
North River Terminal, built in 1937, is also
the main hub for long-range river routes.
The city has three charging ports.
7. CRIMINALITY
• Crime in the Russian capital has had a long
history of the hand of the Mafia. Recently,
however, other sectors of the population have
replaced the mob itself (youth gangs) regarding
crimes committed in Moscow.
8. • Moscow has nine train stations, which are located near the city center, but
each handles trains from different parts of Europe and Asia.48 Moscow
railway stations are: Belorussky, Kazansky, Kiyevsky, Kursky.
• There are also many smaller railway stations. As trains are relatively cheap,
they are the preferred mode of Muscovites to move, especially when they
go to St. Petersburg.
