Every person has an individual gesture, a character signature; it identifies them. But it is emotion, expressed through the eyes, that I love to find. I search, and paint, until it is there, boldly on the paper, and I know I've captured not just a likeness, but the person. My painting style is a step away from impressionism, almost detailed, but leaving a little mystery. I paint exclusively with the luminous beauty of the pastel medium. Energetic strokes, visible texture, or touchable smoothness combined with rich color balanced with neutrals—that’s my vision of realism in portraiture.
