X is an early 20th-century Sanskrit text the existence of which was revealed in 1952 by G. R.
Josyer who asserted that it was written by Pandit Subbaraya Shastry (1866–1940), who dictated it
during the years 1918–1923. A Hindi translation was published in 1959, while the Sanskrit text
with an English translation was published in 1973. It contains 3000 shlokas in 8 chapters which
Shastry claimed was psychically delivered to him by the ancient Hindu sage Bharadvaja.[ The
text has gained favor among proponents of ancient theories.
A study by researchers at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, in 1974 concluded that
description in the text were "poor concoctions" and that the author showed a complete lack of
understanding of the subject . The study noted, "If it is taken to mean what the drawing and the
text say, it can be stated that it is a decided impossibility".

• X is a structured planning method that evaluates those four elements of a project or
business venture. X can be carried out for a product, place, industry, or person. It involves
specifying the objective of the business venture or project and identifying the internal and
external factors that are favorable and unfavorable to achieve that objective. Some authors
credit X to Albert Humphrey, who led a convention at the Stanford Research Institute (now
SRI International) in the 1960s and 1970s using data from Fortune 500 companies. However,
Humphrey himself does not claim the creation of X, and the origins remain obscure.
• Identification of X is important because they can inform later steps in planning to achieve
the objective. First, decision makers should consider whether the objective is attainable,
given the Xs. If the objective is not attainable, they must select a different objective and
repeat the process.
