Alguazas is located 14 km from Murcia in the middle Vega valley of the Segura River. It has a dry climate with most rain falling in April and October, and July being the driest month. The vegetation is adapted to the arid conditions, consisting mainly of thyme and degraded pastureland along the rivers. The economy is based on agriculture, industry, and services, with most people working in agriculture. The population was around 6,933 in the last census and has been growing, including more immigrants working in low-skilled jobs. The illiteracy rate is 5.12% and the school focuses on students from different cultures and preventing racism.
