A simple setup to build a private or public cloud. A cloud at the IaaS layer is simply a cluster of hypervisors with some added storage infrastructure and software to orchestrate everything. In this presentation we show some straightfoward DELL hardware that could be purchased to build a single rack as the basic for a private or public cloud. It totals $100k and coupled with open source software: cloudstack, ceph, glusterfs, nfs etc is the basis for your cloud. You will get a AWS compatible cloud in no-time and with limited acquisition cost.

OpenStack cloud environments demand strong storage performance to handle the requests of end users. Software-based distributed storage can provide this performance while also providing much needed flexibility for storage resources. In our tests, we found that Red Hat Storage Server better handled small-file IO workloads than did Ceph Storage, handling up to two times the number of files per second in some instances. The smallfile tool we used simulated users performing actions on their files to show the kind of end-user performance you could expect using both solutions at various node, VM, and thread counts. These results show that Red Hat Storage Server can provide equivalent or better performance than Ceph Storage for similar workloads in OpenStack cloud environments, which can help users better access the files they keep in the cloud.

Secure distributed data storage can shift the burden of maintaining a large number of files from the owner to proxy servers. Proxy servers can convert encrypted files for the owner to encrypted files for the receiver without the necessity of knowing the content of the original files. In practice, the original files will be removed by the owner for the sake of space efficiency. Hence, the issues on confidentiality and integrity of the outsourced data must be addressed carefully. In this paper, we propose two identity-based secure distributed data storage (IBSDDS) schemes. Our schemes can capture the following properties: (1) The file owner can decide the access permission independently without the help of the private key generator (PKG). (2) For one query, a receiver can only access one file, instead of all files of the owner. (3) Our schemes are secure against the collusion attacks, namely even if the receiver can compromise the proxy servers, he cannot obtain the owner’s secret key. Although the first scheme is only secure against the chosen plaintext attacks (CPA), the second scheme is secure against the chosen ciphertext attacks (CCA). To the best of our knowledge, it is the first IBSDDS schemes where an access permissions is made by the owner for an exact file and collusion attacks can be protected in the standard model.

Storage is one of the most important part of a data center, the complexity to design, build and delivering 24/forever availability service continues to increase every year. For these problems one of the best solution is a distributed filesystem (DFS) This talk describes the basic architectures of DFS and comparison among different free software solutions in order to show what makes DFS suitable for large-scale distributed environments. We explain how to use, to deploy, advantages and disadvantages, performance and layout on each solutions. We also introduce some Case Studies on implementations based on openAFS, GlusterFS and Hadoop finalized to build your own Cloud Storage.

The Ceph distributed storage system sports object, block, and file interfaces to a single storage cluster. These interface are built on a distributed object storage and compute platform called RADOS, which exports a conceptually simple yet powerful interface for storing and processing large amounts of data and is well-suited for backing web-scale applications and data analytics. In features a rich object model, efficient key/value storage, atomic transactions (including efficient compare-and-swap semantics), object cloning and other primitives for supporting snapshots, simple inter-client communication and coordination (ala Zookeeper), and the ability to extend the object interface using arbitrary code executed on the storage node. This talk will focus on librados API, how it is used, the security model, and some examples of RADOS classes implementing interesting functionality.

Alluxio, formerly Tachyon, is a memory speed virtual distributed storage system. The Alluxio open source community is one of the fastest growing open source communities in big data history with more than 300 developers from over 100 organizations around the world. In the past year, the Alluxio project experienced a tremendous improvement in performance and scalability and was extended with key new features including tiered storage, transparent naming, and unified namespace. Alluxio now supports a wide range of under storage systems, including Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage, Gluster, Ceph, HDFS, NFS, and OpenStack Swift. This year, our goal is to make Alluxio accessible to an even wider set of users, through our focus on security, new language bindings, and further increased stability.

Ceph is the most widely deployed storage technology used with OpenStack, most often because it's an open source, massively scalable, unified software-defined storage solution. Its popularity is also due to its unique and optimized technical integration with the OpenStack services and its pure-software approach to scaling. In this session, we'll review how Ceph is integrated into Nova, Glance, Keystone, Cinder, and Manila and demonstrate why using traditional storage products won’t give you the full benefits of an elastic cloud infrastructure. We’ll also cover the flexible deployment options, available through Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform and Red Hat Ceph Storage, for seamless operations and key scenarios like disaster recovery. We'll discuss architectural options for deploying a multisite OpenStack cluster and cover the varying levels of maturity in the OpenStack services for configuring multisite. This session will also show how other technologies are using OpenStack Ceph to increase performance and reduce power consumption, such as Intel SSDs. This will include reference architectures and best practices for Ceph and SSDs.

The microservices honeymoon is over. When starting a new project or revamping a legacy monolith, teams started looking for alternatives to microservices. The Modular Monolith, or 'Modulith', is an architecture that reaps the benefits of (vertical) functional decoupling without the high costs associated with separate deployments. This talk will delve into the advantages and challenges of this progressive architecture, beginning with exploring the concept of a 'module', its internal structure, public API, and inter-module communication patterns. Supported by spring-modulith, the talk provides practical guidance on addressing the main challenges of a Modultith Architecture: finding and guarding module boundaries, data decoupling, and integration module-testing. You should not miss this talk if you are a software architect or tech lead seeking practical, scalable solutions. About the author With two decades of experience, Victor is a Java Champion working as a trainer for top companies in Europe. Five thousands developers in 120 companies attended his workshops, so he gets to debate every week the challenges that various projects struggle with. In return, Victor summarizes key points from these workshops in conference talks and online meetups for the European Software Crafters, the world’s largest developer community around architecture, refactoring, and testing. Discover how Victor can help you on victorrentea.ro : company training catalog, consultancy and YouTube playlists.

Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/why-teams-call-analytics-is-critical-to-your-entire-business Nothing is as frustrating and noticeable as being in an important call and being unable to see or hear the other person. Not surprising then, that issues with Teams calls are among the most common problems users call their helpdesk for. Having in depth insight into everything relevant going on at the user’s device, local network, ISP and Microsoft itself during the call is crucial for good Microsoft Teams Call quality support. To ensure a quick and adequate solution and to ensure your users get the most out of their Microsoft 365. But did you know that ‘bad calls’ are also an excellent indicator of other problems arising? Precisely because it is so noticeable!? Like the canary in the mine, bad calls can be early indicators of problems. Problems that might otherwise not have been noticed for a while but can have a big impact on productivity and satisfaction. Join this session by Christoph Adler to learn how true Microsoft Teams call quality analytics helped other organizations troubleshoot bad calls and identify and fix problems that impacted Teams calls or the use of Microsoft365 in general. See what it can do to keep your users happy and productive! In this session we will cover - Why CQD data alone is not enough to troubleshoot call problems - The importance of attributing call problems to the right call participant - What call quality analytics can do to help you quickly find, fix-, and prevent problems - Why having retrospective detailed insights matters - Real life examples of how others have used Microsoft Teams call quality monitoring to problem shoot problems with their ISP, network, device health and more.

Retrieval augmented generation (RAG) is the most popular style of large language model application to emerge from 2023. The most basic style of RAG works by vectorizing your data and injecting it into a vector database like Milvus for retrieval to augment the text output generated by an LLM. This is just the beginning. One of the ways that we can extend RAG, and extend AI, is through multilingual use cases. Typical RAG is done in English using embedding models that are trained in English. In this talk, we’ll explore how RAG could work in languages other than English. We’ll explore French, Chinese, and Polish.

GlusterFS Concepts
21.
GlusterFS Brick A brick is the combination of a node and an export directory Each brick inherits limits of the underlying filesystem Ideally, each brick in a cluster should be of the same size
22.
GlusterFS Volume A volume is a logical collection of bricks A volume is identified by an administrator provided name Volumes can be either distributed, striped, and/or replicated Most administrative actions tied to a volume today
23.
Distributed Volume Distributed files across various bricks of the volume Directories are present on all bricks of the volume
24.
Replicated Volume Creates synchronous copies of all directory and file updates Provides high availability of data when nodes failures occur Transaction driven for ensuring consistency
25.
Striped Volume Files are striped into chunks and placed in various bricks Recommended only when very large files greater than the size of the bricks
26.
Distributed Replicated Volume Distribute files across replicated bricks Provides both Scale out and high availability Most preferred model of deployment currently
27.
GlusterFS Volume Example Example: Create a six node distributed and replicated volume with a two-way mirror $ sudo gluster volume create myvolume replica 2 transport tcp server1:/export/brick/myvolume server2:/export/brick/myvolume server3:/export/brick/myvolume server4:/export/brick/myvolume server5:/export/brick/myvolume server6:/export/brick/myvolume $ sudo gluster volume start myvolume $ sudo mount -t glusterfs server1:myvolume /mnt/gluster/myvolume
