De recente en grootste ramsomware-uitbraak ooit op 12 mei jl: WannaCry toont goed aan hoe kwetsbaar we als samenleving zijn geworden. In zeer korte tijd wist de ransomware door te dringen tot overheidsinstellingen, ziekenhuizen, treinstations en meer dan 50.000 organisaties in 100 landen. Tijdens de meetup van juni speelden we in op thema's die spelen rondom Cyber Security van IoT devices en wat je kunt doen als organisatie om IoT hacking te voorkomen. Daarnaast liet onze spreker Mark de Groot zien hoe een hack tot stand komt.

Title "Emerging Data Privacy and Security for Cloud" Abstract: Personal data privacy will be the most prominent issue affecting how businesses gather, store, process, and disclose data in public cloud. Gartner includes data ethics and privacy on their list of the top 10 strategic technology trends of 2019, placing it on the same level as AI-driven development, blockchain, and edge computing. Businesses have been inundated with information on what recent privacy laws like GDPR and CCPA require, but many are still trying to figure out how to comply with them on a practical level. Many companies are focusing on data privacy from the legal and security side, which are foundational, but are missing the focus on data. The good news is that these data privacy regulations compel businesses to get a handle on personal data — how they get it, where they get it from, which systems process it, where it goes internally and externally, etc. In other words, the new norms of data privacy require proactive data management, which enables organizations to extract real business value from their data, improve the customer experience, streamline internal processes, and better understand their customers. Companies continue to transition to more costefficient cloud-based solutions, their email and other valuable data migrate along with them. The new Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR) provides perspectives on how Criminals simply shift their focus and adapt their tactics to locate and steal the data they find to be of most value. Differential privacy, Tokenization, Homomorphic encryption, and Privacy-preserving computation are often discussed in the context of identifying individuals whose information may be in a database. Secure multi-party computation (also known as secure computation, multi-party computation (MPC), or privacy-preserving computation) is a subfield of cryptography with the goal of creating methods for parties to jointly compute a function over their inputs while keeping those inputs private. We will discuss how these emerging data privacy technologies can limit the privacy impact on individuals whose information is in a database. Let’s break down the differences and see where these techniques fit best in an organization’s security and privacy strategy and align with privacy law requirements. Business applications are the crown jewels of the new, cloud-based, application-centric economy. Cloud service providers and their diverse platform technologies are striving to serve these increasingly complex, mission-critical business applications. However, rapidly accelerating business, technical, and even regulatory requirements for applications make it increasingly difficult for cloud service providers and cloud platform technologies to meet the needs of innovative businesses for speed, accuracy and agility. What was missing, until recently, was an open standard that would enable business to capture and automate the use of expert knowledge regarding essential details such as business application components, dependencies, and a wide range of requirements that could be automatically matched to corresponding cloud service provider capabilities. Cloud vendor software leveraging such an open standard would enable, for the first time, a truly competitive ecosystem where cloud platform and service providers can leap beyond commoditization in order to compete, innovate, and better serve the accelerating needs of cloud-based businesses. The Topology and Orchestration Specification for Cloud Applications (TOSCA) is a new open standard created with the active participation of leading technology vendors, cloud service providers, and customers that facilitates all of the above goals and more. TOSCA defines the interoperable description of applications; including their components, relationships, dependencies, requirements, and capabilities, thereby enabling portability and semi-automatic management across cloud providers regardless of underlying platform or infrastructure; thus expanding customer choice, improving reliability, and reducing cost and time-to-value. These characteristics also facilitate the portable, continuous delivery of applications (DevOps) across their entire lifecycle. In short, they empower a much higher level of agility and accuracy for business in the cloud. The growing impact of TOSCA has already inspired an OASIS Interop with six vendors demonstrating cross-cloud interoperability, an ODCA Proof-of-Concept demonstration, and several open source projects. This lively and fast-paced session is suitable for both business and technology focused thought-leaders, and will provide you with a better understanding of the potential and business impact of TOSCA.

The presentation explores the development and application of artificial intelligence (AI) from its inception to its current status in the modern world. The term "artificial intelligence" was first coined by John McCarthy in 1956 to describe efforts to develop computer programs capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence. This concept was first introduced at a conference held at Dartmouth College, where programs demonstrated capabilities such as playing chess, proving theorems, and interpreting texts. In the early stages, Alan Turing contributed to the field by defining intelligence as the ability of a being to respond to certain questions intelligently, proposing what is now known as the Turing Test to evaluate the presence of intelligent behavior in machines. As the decades progressed, AI evolved significantly. The 1980s focused on machine learning, teaching computers to learn from data, leading to the development of models that could improve their performance based on their experiences. The 1990s and 2000s saw further advances in algorithms and computational power, which allowed for more sophisticated data analysis techniques, including data mining. By the 2010s, the proliferation of big data and the refinement of deep learning techniques enabled AI to become mainstream. Notable milestones included the success of Google's AlphaGo and advancements in autonomous vehicles by companies like Tesla and Waymo. A major theme of the presentation is the application of generative AI, which has been used for tasks such as natural language text generation, translation, and question answering. Generative AI uses large datasets to train models that can then produce new, coherent pieces of text or other media. The presentation also discusses the ethical implications and the need for regulation in AI, highlighting issues such as privacy, bias, and the potential for misuse. These concerns have prompted calls for comprehensive regulations to ensure the safe and equitable use of AI technologies. Artificial intelligence has also played a significant role in healthcare, particularly highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic, where it was used in drug discovery, vaccine development, and analyzing the spread of the virus. The capabilities of AI in healthcare are vast, ranging from medical diagnostics to personalized medicine, demonstrating the technology's potential to revolutionize fields beyond just technical or consumer applications. In conclusion, AI continues to be a rapidly evolving field with significant implications for various aspects of society. The development from theoretical concepts to real-world applications illustrates both the potential benefits and the challenges that come with integrating advanced technologies into everyday life.
