Introduction
The aim for participants in the online environment is to abandon what Carol Dweck calls a “fixed
mindset” and expand a “growth mindset”.
The pilot questionnaire measures the mindsets of the participants before the pilot and after the
pilot. For the pilot to be effective the participant scores after the pilot should be lower individually
and cumulatively after the pilot in comparison to before the pilot.
Supervisors will send this document to you, together with the Pilot questionnaire for participants.
You in turn need to send it the Pilot questionnaire for participants to your participants, both before
the first structured chat session and after the last structured chat session.

Calculating participant scores
Questionnaire statements 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 10 are indicators of a “fixed mindset” while statements
2, 5, and 9 are indicator of a “growth mindset”.
You calculate the participant scores. To calculate the participant scores you first add up the
participant scores on statements 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 10.
You then change the scores on statements 2, 5, and 9 in the follow way: the scores are inversed. So,
the score “1” becomes “5”, “2” becomes “4”, “3” becomes “3”, “4” becomes “2” and the score “5”
becomes “1”. The inversed scores are added up.
Finally the total scores on statements 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 10 and the total inversed scored on
statements 2, 5, and 9 are added up. The new total score equals the participant score.
You gather the questionnaires filled out by the participants both before the first structured chat
session and then again after the last structured chat session.
You need to create a table of the scores of the individual anonymized participant questionnaire
scores before and after and of the cumulative participants’ scores.
You then need to send the table containing the anonimized questionnaire scores to the supervisors.
The table could look like this:
PARTICIPANT QUESTIONNAIRE SCORES
SCORE
BEFORE
SCORE
AFTER
SCORE DIFFERENCE (“SCORE BEFORE” MINUS
“SCORE AFTER”)
PARTICIPANT 1
PARTICIPANT 2
CUMULATIVE
SCORE
