1. Academic Reflection from Field Week
Experience
The experience I am going to reflect on is the hill walking from the Langdale Youth Hostel to
Grasmere and then returning to Langdale via two different routes. We encountered a
number of different hazards on our journey including rock faces and streams. We had to
work together to decide how we would overcome these hazards.
Reflect
We started by using activities which involved us pretending that we were school children
using a teaching theory which suggests that once you have been taught a skill you should be
able to explore and experience this skill with remote supervision (Mike, 2010). By applying
this theory I was able to learn different skills and experience them in my own personal way.
Conceptualise
Throughout the day I was drained of energy, due to lack of sleep. Although I was tired most
of the day I enjoyed the relaxing walk through the hills. The task was reasonably simple and I
would have liked to have been pushed more.
Plan
If I was to do this task again I would sleep more and take the lead on more activities and by
being more adventurous in my decision making, it would be more challenging and enjoyable
and worthwhile.
