Retirement
Finally it was time for the boss to retire from the
company. On his last day of work, he ordered a
farewell party for himself and insisted that every staff
member attend the party. He had a big farewell card
prepared and he told everyone, “I want each of you to
express your good feelings about me by writing on the
farewell card. I want to remember how all my staff
members remember me.”
After nearly all the staff members had written, the
boss had a look at their wishes. Most of them had
written the usual stuff like “All the best”, “We will
miss you”, “The company will be different without
you” etc The boss was not satisfied. He approached
Cho Beh and told him, “Cho Beh, you have been
working for me for the last 20 years. You have been
the best worker. I am retiring now and I want you to
write your honest feelings in my farewell card.”
Cho Beh slowing took the pen and wrote in the card, “
Goodbye. The best news in 20 years for me.”
Reflections
* One should not think so highly of oneself. Being so
focused on the Ego can bring much suffering.
* Praise and blame, happiness and pain are
inevitable. Be prepared to face them calmly.

TIRED DOG
Tired Dog
A tired-looking dog wandered into the backyard of
Mrs. Ngah who was drying her clothes. The dog had
a collar and a big belly. “He must be well-fed and
probably comes from a good home,” Mrs. Ngah
thought to herself. When she walked into the house,
the dog followed her, went down the hall and fell
asleep in a corner. An hour later, Mrs. Ngah let him
out.
The next day the dog was back. He again slept in the
hall. hour. This continued for a few weeks. weeks.
Curious, Mrs. Ngah finally pinned a note to his
collar: "Every afternoon, your dog comes to my
house for a nap."
The next day the dog arrived with a fresh note
pinned to his collar: "We have seven children. The
dog is trying trying to catch up on his sleep."
Reflections
* Even a dog needs peace and quiet to rest and
sleep.
* We are living in a world of too much sound and
noise pollution which can disturb our mental
peace. We need to have quiet moments in solitude
away from the din, hustle and bustle of life.
