Lateral Thinking Q 1
Answer
Mimi bought a piggy savings box when she
was 10 years old. She put $250 into the box
every time her birthday came. Her younger
brother Jojo took out $50 out of her piggy box
on each of his birthdays.
Mimi died when she was 50 years old. When
the piggy box was opened, it had just $500.
Apart from Jojo no one had taken any money
out of the box. How could you explain this?
Clue
Mimi was born on 29 February. Hence her birthday came
only once in 4 years and she only put the money only 10
times until she died. She deposited a total of $2500.
Jojo celebrated his birthday every year and took out of
the box $50 every year for 40 years making the total
amount $2000. Thus when the piggy box was opened, it
had just $500.

36. 36
Math Puzzle 3
Answer
Consider the Diagram
shown.
Using your Math ‘Talent’,
deduce what number should
be at the position marked
“??”
The answer is 90
Consider, if the number is ‘A’, then
Multiply the number A with ‘A+1’ i.e. A x
(A+1) = __
Like given 2=6, it’s mean 2 x (2+1) = 6, or
simply 2 x 3 = 6
for next number 3, it is 3 x 4 =12 and so
on..
Don’t forget, number 7 and 8
So, overall calculation is shown blow:
2 x 3 =6
3 x 4 =12
4 x 5 = 20
5 x 6 = 30
6 x 7 = 42
7 x 8 = 56 (skipped in image)
8 x 9 = 72 (skipped in image)
9 x 10 = 90
So the answer is 90
