The teacher will teach third grade students about events preceding the American Revolution over the course of one week. Students will learn from a poster on the thirteen colonies, discuss a blog on the subject, and participate in a group activity on the SMART Board. The lesson will utilize small and large group work as well as individual work. Computers and the media room will be needed to access the blog. A printer will be used to create the colonies poster. The SMART Board activity will assess student understanding by having them match colonies to their locations. Student feedback will be used to evaluate the methods and materials.

ASSURE Day #1
United States of America before Revolution
Analyze Audience
The class is third grade and has twenty students. There are seven girls and thirteen
boys. The class has eight African American students. They are all low income students. Three
of the students have a reading disability.
State Objectives
The children will describe the important events that preceded the United of States of
America’s revolution with a 100% accuracy in one week by learning about a poster board on the
thirteen colonies, discussing a blog on the subject, and doing a group activity on the SMART
Board.
Select Methods, Media, & Materials
The lesson will be done in both large- and small-groups. They will also work on some
things individually. Computers will be needed to access Blogger (the site where the blog is).
Therefore, the media room will have to be reserved. A suitable printer will be needed to print
out the poster on the colonies. A SMART Board, which is in every classroom, will have to be
utilized in order to do the group activity.
Utilize Media & Materials
I will make sure the blog and poster has information that is credible and
understandable. I will make sure the media center is open during that day so that the children
can look at the blog. The poster will be printed the day before the lesson. I will be sure that
the SMART Board is working properly. The SmartBoard will also have to have the activity on it
and ready to be used. Their desks will be arranged into four groups of five. I will introduce the
children to the lesson.
Require Learner Participation
The map poster will then be displayed to the class. Each children will spend some time
reviewing the blog post on the thirteen colonies. As a class, they will discuss the colonies that
they have learned. After that, they will be divided into four groups of five and will do the
SMART Board game. The activity involves matching the colony with the area in which it was.
2. One of the groups will play another one. So, there will be two different rounds on the
SmartBoard. This activity is how they will be assessed.
Evaluation of Methods & Materials
During the discussion on the blog, the class will talk about how interesting the post was.
After they see the poster, they will talk about how well it kept their attention. Then, when they
have completed the SMART Board activity, they will talk about how fun or not fun the game
was. Any recommendations or complaints will be addressed as I change this lesson in
preparation for the next time it is taught.
