Online social networking is individuals who have met on line and share common interests in hobbies, religion, politics and alternative lifestyles. Once these individuals grant access to a social networking website the socializing begins. The socialization may include reading the profile pages of other members and even making contact with each other (Social Networking, 2012).
The objective for the lesson plan will be to help students recognize the dangers of issues with social networking as well as the benefit of social networking.
Courseobjectives describe what learners will be able to do at the end of the instructions and they provide clear reasons for teaching.
There are many advantages to using Facebook as a tool or social network for education. The site list 100 different advantages that speak towards the students, instructors, and increased technology skills.
Although, the negative affects ofFacebook are decreased grades, decreased finances and depression, most students would choose to continue using Facebook as a social network for education.
The video from youTube is a great example of how education can benefit from Facebook.
Learning can be fun and with Twitter, learning can be digital. Twitter facilitates social media to provide microblogging services that can increase active learning for students.
There are few disadvantages to using Twitter as a educational tool. The main disadvantages would be as with any social networking and that being security issues.
There will always be the issue of hackers and privacy violators with social networking. Knowing the different issues and being aware of how to avoid or reduce the risk are part of the educational process to make social networking a more positive experience.
The National School of Safety and Security Issues helps teach students to use the internet wisely. Students are able to experience the excitement of the internet while using it safely.
