  1. Molti di voi si ritroveranno in questa slide che vuole riassume le principali sfide che molti IT manger affrontano quotidianamente.
  2. Questa slide mostra tre grafici molto interessanti. Vediamoli in dettaglio.Utilizzo tipico delle risorse (CPU) in un datacenter dal 2002 al 2008. Si e’ passati dal 12% al 5%.Questo grafico mette in relazione la percentuale dei server utilizzati in tipica infrastruttura e il carico utile, cioè la capacità computazionale realmente utilizzata. Entrambe le quantità sono espresse in %. Il 26% dei server gestiscono l’80% del lavoro. La curva mostra l’aumento in termini di prestazioni (performacer/watt) di un server dual socket nel tempo. Si parte dai server di 6 Generazione (2000) per arrivare agli ultimi server di 11 Generazione (2009). Con il rilascio dei server di ultima generazione c’e stato un aumento del 180% rispetto alla generazione precedente.

  4. In Dell abbiamo cercato di portare la massima efficienza energetica nell’elemento base del datacenter, cioè il nodo di calcolo. Parlando di ottimizzazione energetica quattro sono gli elementi che determina una reale efficienza: Design, Misurazione, Controllo e ReportisticaVediamo degli esempi:Design e Controllo: ottimizzazione del layout e dei flussi d’aria, minimizzazione dell’aria utilizzata e massimizzazione del ricircoloDesign e Misurazione: selezione della componentistica e ottimizzazione della distribuzione dell’energia Misurazione: Misurazione della temperatura e dei flussi aria (R610 = 44 sensori, R710 = 35 sensori, T610 = 25 sensori)Design e Controllo: dimensionamento delle ventole rispetto alla resistenza/impedenza di ingresso
