Domestic Violence is a problem sweeping the nation. This problem can affect anyone from anywhere
but is generally acting out upon children and adult women in abusive relationships. Domestic
violence is emotionally and physically scarring for anyone involved, and as a result could take
multiple intervention meetings to begin to understand the issue, alleviate the associated problems,
and to assist the victim in getting back on his or her feet. The consequences of abuse include anxiety,
depression, post–traumatic stress disorder and self–harm. Children may begin to act differently to

The three most common ways to use persuasion to curb domestic violence is to educate, have
nonverbal signals, and to speak out. Educating people will teach people how to deal with anger in
a passive way before turning into an abusive case. Different kinds of people can be shown and
given education on the dangers and signs of domestic violence and can use their knowledge of
the issue to put a stop to it. Nonverbal signals are a good way for people in relationships with
anger problems to control that anger. If there is a nonverbal signal in place, whoever is angry can
take the time to walk away and clear their head before turning to violence during an argument.
Last, speaking out is one of the best ways to put a stop to domestic violence. Calling the
authorities when he or she see or hear something can save someone's life. Take the necessary steps

Domestic violence shelters provide important services to women and children whom are trying to
recover from the effects of IVP. The deterrent for many victims is that crowding, being surrounded
by strangers and restrictions can many times lead to depression. I can relate to the issues women
face. I was in a tumultuous relationship with my now ex–husband. Although I was never physically
abused I was emotionally abused and held emotionally hostage. My feelings of worthlessness hit an
all–time low when I sought shelter at a women's center with my two young children. The shelter
provided me the opportunity to break away from the oppression and have a safe haven until my
family could retrieve my children and myself. The services they provided were invaluable and I
am thankful to them, the shelter saved my life. Whatever the reason is that a person seeks
sanctuary, it is an opportunity to reevaluate what a woman wants out of her life and shelters are an
important resource to tap into. Many shelters struggle financially to stay open due to limited
resources. Many are underfunded. Until the country takes a closer look at the reasons why IPV is
still so prevalent, the shelters will continue to be there and assist as many women and children as
possible despite the financial constraints they are faced

Right now, right at this very instant, a silent war all across the nation is being waged. A violation of
humanity, a crime that is least prosecuted, and a great threat endangering the lives of thousands of
women and children daily. Of course, I am talking about harsh reality of domestic violence. We live
in a time where domestic violence is kept a taboo subject, a shameful secret that shouldn't be let out.
We know it's happening, and even hear or see the events. But who's taking action?
I can stand here and give you a list of statistics about this issue, but is that all it is? A statistic?
Sadly enough, people look at this endless crime as just a figure or percentage, we're shocked at first
but nothing more. So today, I am taking the first step, a step towards justice, a step to end the
struggle, and a step to save our nation.
And yes, I'm not anyone special, I don't study the topic, nor am I a survivor of domestic violence
myself. But I'm here to tell a story. I'm here to make a change. And I'm here to encourage all of you
to do the same.
I'm going to share an experience I had. Something that I've regretted and hated myself for since,
knowing that help could've been sought earlier. A few years back, I was catching up with a family
member and noticed a faint bruise on her face. Naturally, I asked her what had happened but she
just brushed it off, told me it was nothing but a sport injury. Weeks progressed, and the bruises
became worse and worse, but I stop questioning. To me, she still seemed the happy go–lucky girl I
knew and loved, the only difference were these markings. But let me tell you, sometimes the people
who seem happiest, are actually hurting the most. And this was exactly the case. Flashforward a few
months, and her partner was being trialled and charged under the case of domestic abuse.
Although there were so many signs, my ignorance restrained me from helping her help herself.
Needless to say, I was absolutely disgusted. And to this day, I still can't even begin the fathom how
anyone could possibly put their hands on someone they loved. To purposely harm their significant
other and act like everything is fine. And to the victims who have to live

With just the slight tweaking of just a few laws, the protection of domestic violence victims could
be greatly improved and make many of them feel a lot safer when going to sleep at night. It would
be a wise decision if the government implemented these changes in order to protect the victims of
domestic violence, it would solve a lot of existing problems and make sure that the domestic

Domestic Violence: A Brief Summary
On Wednesday, December 10, 2015 at approximately 0608 hrs, I was dispatched to 45 Lake Dr for
a report of domestic violence. Upon arrival, I spoke to Tanya Branch (suspect) who stated that Jason
Lewther (victim) was bothering everyone in the house. Branch stated that Lewther and Branch are
married but they were in the process of getting divorce. Branch also stated that Lewther had been
drinking alcoholic beverage all night and that they had a verbal argument because Lewther was
being belligerent and that he woke her aunt, Cyanthia Chunn (reporting person) and yelled at her for
no reasons. Branch advised me that Lewther had drinking problem and that he had been getting help

elder abuse. Family violence affects many persons at some point in their life and constitutes the

receiving abuse themselves and/or seeing others abused, and this abuse becomes a normal condition

1.) Although young children are often prone to bruising because of their level of activity,
questionable bruising should always be reported. It is not the physician's responsibility to decide if
it is abuse but, it is the physician responsibility to act on his or her concerns and do something

designated as such because they are in a position to receive information that a child is or may be at

The first reaction upon hearing about the topic of battered men, for many people, is that of
incredulity. Battered husbands are a topic for jokes (such as the cartoon image of a woman chasing
her husband with a rolling–pin). One researcher noted that wives were the perpetrators in 73% of the

husbands were at greater risk of spouse homicide victimization than Black wives or White spouses
of either sex" (Mercy & Saltzman 1989)]
The subject of husband–battering had finally been addressed, but not to the great satisfaction of
anyone. Although it had finally been shown that there was violence being perpetrated both by wives
and husbands, there was no information about relative frequency or severity, or who initiated the
abuse and who was acting in self defense. Furthermore, some researchers became concerned that the
use of police or social services references in choosing subjects to study might be biasing the results.
In short, they recognized that battered husbands might be nearly invisible next to their female
counterparts.
In 1976, for instance, in a critique of the Curtis report (which found women less likely to assault,
but as likely to murder, as men), Wilt & Bannon wrote that "nonfatal violence committed by women
against men is less likely to be reported to the police than is violence by men against women; thus,
women assaulters who come to the attention of the police are likely to be those who have produced
a fatal result."
