This part will provide a historical narrative of the origins &
evolutions of industrial redevelopment programs in the
northeast part of United States. It will focus on the causes &
processes of industrial decline, especially during the period
following World War II, while examining the responses by
each level of government to technological advancement,
changing settlement patterns, and economic restructuring.
7. These cities had originally prospered as centers of
manufacturing production , wholesale trade and retail sales.
The postwar years made a watershed period for government
sponsored urban (industrial) redevelopment policies in this
part of United States. While the USA economy entered a long
and steady period of growth and productivity after world war
II, older industrial cities experienced losses of employers to the
suburbs .
However according to Teaford (1990:3), “New modes of
transportation , an influx of poor migrants and the
unprecedented competition from the suburbs now placed these
older urban centers as a disadvantage in the struggle for
business who would pay more in taxes then they required in
services .“

North American industrial region comprising of USA and
Canada is a highly developed industrial region of the world
.The northeast area of USA has become the world’s greatest
industrial region. The speed at which the industrial pattern of
this part of USA is shifting and changing today is, a measure of
it’s industrial wealth and the newness of it’s development.
The North American continent has many great industrial
centers and regions. This is partly the consequence of the
widespread nature of the resources of the continent, and
partly because of the late date at which industrialization took
place.
19. We decided to prepare our presentation on urban
revitalization of northeast USA because after world
war 2, vast demolition took place in USA and
throughout revitalization process, now northeast
USA is one of the most established and leading
region of the world. Key steps of revitalization were :
