We often hear the advice of 'Clicks, not Code' and '80% Config vs 20% Code'. Orgs are described, without a frame of reference as being 'very custom'. However, there is no generally accepted definition on how to calculate customization of an org. Assumptions about code brought from other platforms are being misapplied to Salesforce to the detriment of customers and end-users. This presentation suggests a framework called 'CEER (Config / Extend / Enhance / Replace). This framework breaks the dichotomy of code vs clicks and replaces it with an approach that reflects the true nature of a salesforce solution. It highlights low vs high-risk activities such as Custom Object vs Building a collaboration platform. It also allows you to understand how Managed Packages impact your solution. The result is the ability to describe your org in terms of real effort/outcome basis. My presentation from Devoxx Poland 2015. There is no doubt about it - we live in the times very comfortable for IT engineers. Most of all software developers. Especially Java developers. Job market is hot. Software developers have countless options - thousands of companies from Poland and abroad fight for employees in Poland. And they offer very reasonable money - especially when compared to other professions. It’s very natural and tempting to let employers adore yourself and rest on laurels. One can already see a lot o victims of this situation. Very friendly job market is de facto our biggest enemy. How do 5, 10 or 15 or more years of the experience in our industry change the perception of Java platform and most of all the perception of ourselves - our position and value as professional Java developers? What are the real caveats of our profession and our beloved platform? What is really important for us - devs? Does the knowledge of Java turns us into professional immortals? Wojtek tries to answer such questions or trigger the audience to rethink their approach to it. In a quite opinionated manner he will debunk some myths of Java developer ethos - basing on many observations and meetings with people from our industry.

And every team is focused towards delivering quality, no one wakes up in the morning with an idea to introduce defects, we naturally ideate to solve problems. Unknowingly though, dysfunctions always creep in and identifying a dysfunction is extremely difficult especially when you are a part of the dysfunction. In this 45 min talk, discussion is about the importance of quality and how it's no longer negotiable even if Project Management principles tell us otherwise. Stories from past experience, and from organisations ranging from GM to Mumbai Dabbawalas that have embraced the "Quality is not Negotiable" principle and seen the difference. Add 300,000 co-workers and an army of directors and executives competing for budget, priority and attention, and it becomes exponentially more difficult. Technical SEO at a large enterprise company isn’t as simple as running a technical audit and then handing a list over to an internal team to fix. There are limits on resources, tools and budget to contend with. Any problem requires a needs assessment, an evaluation on actual impact and any revenue losses before anyone will even consider talking to you. In addition to fixing technical issues that already exist, there’s a great need to avert additional crises due to CMS platform changes, site migrations, acquisitions, disposals, etc.. In this session, I’ll talk through the process of building taking a technical audit from awareness to implementation, along with the political hurdles in between. I’ll also provide insights on sizing and planning within an Agile environment.
