This study aimed to discover differences in reading comprehension ability between male and female students using skimming techniques and to reveal difficulties faced by each group using this technique. 28 students (14 male, 14 female) were given reading comprehension tests using skimming. Results showed no significant difference in ability between the groups. Both male and female students faced difficulties because they did not fully apply skimming strategies correctly, such as reading first sentences of paragraphs. The researcher recommends teaching skimming techniques to help students quickly grasp main ideas without reading entire texts.

The Reading Comprehension Ability of Male and Female Students by Using Skimming Technique
1.
2. Physiologically differences are related to the
physical and sensory. Psychologically differences
are related to the interests, level of intelligence,
talent, motivation and cognitive ability.
Based on the background, the researcher wanted to
explore whether there is a difference between
students' reading comprehension abilities of male
and female by using skimming techniques and
what difficulties they faced by male and female
students.
3.
Is there any difference in reading comprehension
ability between male and female students by
using skimming technique?
What are the difficulties faced by male and
female students in reading comprehension ability
by using skimming technique?
5. This study is aimed to :
Discover the difference in reading comprehension ability
between male and female students by using skimming
technique.
Reveal the difficulties faced by male and female students
in reading comprehension ability by using skimming
technique.
6.
There were 28 students, namely 14 female
students and 14 male students.
7. In order to achieve the aims of the research
used a descriptive study.
8. 1)
DIFFERENCE IN READING COMPREHENSION ABILITY
BETWEEN MALE AND FEMALE STUDENTS BY USING
SKIMMING TECHNIQUE
The mean of female is 8.28 while the mean of male is
7.35. The standard deviation of female is 1.46 and the
standard deviation of male is 1.78. The researcher
obtained the standard error of the difference between
means (SDbM ) of the female and male students is 0.49.
Then t-test explained the difference of female and male
students in reading comprehension ability by using
skimming technique for about 1.89.
Db=df=degree of freedom = Nx + Ny – 2 = 26. Based on
table t value with df = 26 and the significance level of
5%, t table = 2. 056. T value (obtained = 1. 89) is smaller
than t table.
9. 2) DIFFICULTIES FACED BY MALE AND FEMALE STUDENTS
IN READING COMPREHENSION
SKIMMING TECHNIQUE
ABILITY
BY
USING
57% female students are not used to reading the first
sentence of each paragraph and 14% female students
never pay attention to pictures, graphics and so on that
exist in the text.
36% male students never read the conclusion to obtain
general information on a text. Second, 29% male
students never notice the words in bold in the text. The
smallest difficulty is that 21% male students never pay
attention to images, and graphics in the text. It also
occured to 21% male students that are not used to
reading the first sentence of each paragraph.
10. 1.
There is no difference in reading comprehension ability
between male and female students by using skimming
technique.
2.
The students who had difficulties in reading by using
skimming technique both male and female students are
because they did not carry out the entire strategies of
skimming technique correctly at the time of reading,
while others did not have trouble because they carried
out a whole strategies of skimming technique correctly.
11.
The researcher suggests teaching the skimming
technique in teaching reading, especially to
familiarize students to read quickly to obtain the
main idea of text without having to read the
entire text, shorten the time and to train the
students' reading comprehension.
