Indian Railway
 Indian Railway was first introduced to India in 1853.
 The first train route was between Mumbai to Thane.
 It is fully owned by Republic of India (Indian Government)
 In 1951 Railways were nationalized and was maintained by
  Ministry of railway.
 Now it has become the Second Largest Railway corporation
  in world under single management.
 Worlds largest Employers with more than million
  employees.
 Indian Railway covers more than 63,327 Kms and network
  is spread over 6909 Station.
 Indian Railway owns over 200,000 (freight) wagons, 50,000
    coaches and 8,000 locomotives.
   Indian Railway is maintained under 16 Railway zones.
   Indian Railway is also the largest employer in India, employing
    more than 1.6 million people.
   Indian railways uses four gauges BROAD GUAGE, STANDERD
    GAUGE, METER GUAGE and NARROW GUAGE.
   The Revenue for Indian railway for the year 2009-2010 was US$
    19.17billion.
   Net operating income/profit for the same year was US$ 203.37
    million.

    operations by establishing Freight Operations Information
    System (FOIS)

    consignments in real time.
   For easy acceptance of customer's orders, billing and cash
    accountal from identified nodal customer centres which may not
    necessarily be the handling terminals.

   PALACE ON WHEELS



 These trains can be booked from anywhere in the world, using

 It also provides some value added services such as Hotel
  Booking, Car Rentals, Holiday Packages, Rail Packages
Effects Of Information Technology on Indian Railway
  Indian Railway has became technically advanced.


  Computerization of Freight Operations has effectively increased
