2. How did Softball begin?
The first game of softball happened because of a football game.
Thanksgiving Day in 1887: Yale vs. Harvard
Equipment used: boxing glove and a broom handle
Reporter: “Play ball!”
…..and the rest is history!
3. Rules
Rules defined by the international softball federation states:
Nine players on the field
Infield: Catcher, Pitcher, 1st base, 2nd base, Shortstop, 3rd base
Outfield: Right field, Left field, Center field
Team with the most runs wins
Pitcher throws the ball under hand to the plate
4. Olympics!
It first became an Olympic sport in 1996
It was the first time in 69 years an Olympic sport has been
removed in the Olympics
They had a vote recently on weather or not they should put
softball back in the 2020 Olympics, sadly they voted no that
softball will not be in the Olympics in 2020.
Softball got removed from the Olympics because the United
States dominated every year in the Olympics
5. Softballs & Baseballs
When people play softball, they use a 12 inch ball
When people play baseball they use a 9 inch ball
6. Famous Softball Players
Jennie Finch is a very famous softball player and is known for her
pitching. One fact it that she pitched for the USA team in the
Olympics in 2004 and 2008.
Cat Osterman is a very famous person too. She is also known for
her pitching. One fact is that she plays for the USSSA Pride softball
team.
Keilani Ricketts is a famous softball player and is known for her
pitching. One fact is that she plays for the USSSA Pride softball
team too.
Crystal Bustos is a famous softball player too. One fact about her
is that her batting average is 400.
