Descriptive Essay About A Perfect Day
Morning
How breathtaking an early sunrise looked. Nature had never had such beauty to behold. The sun
's rays on the horizon looked so beautiful against the clouds. It made them turn all different shades
of pink, gold and orange. Soon enough, the sunlight has filled up the entire sky. It was totally
worth waking up at the crack of dawn. Despite how tired I was, it was the start to a perfect day. I
relaxed while I listened to the birds singing in the trees. A cold breeze picked up in the wind
making me shiver. I was glad. The last couple weeks of summer had been scorching. With the cold
breeze in the wind warmth of the sun on my face;that made it even more spectacular. It was perfect.
Absolutely perfect. After another half hour on the...show more content...

Afternoon
Another silent tear falls makes it's way down my face and falls onto my tear stained dress. Once
silky and beautiful, now crumpled and wet after all the crying I have just done. Still, no matter how
many times my parents have tried to explain to me, I still can't believe it. Princess cannot, and will
not(at least on my watch) –ever die. I have bursted into giant sobs by now. I know my parents are
trying to make me feel better, and I really am sorry for making this whole situation worse –well, not
at least entirely. I still can't seem to understand what my parents are trying to tell me. Well, of course
I know what they are saying–I'm not deaf, but I'm having trouble just taking it all in . "Breath, just
breath" My parents keep telling me. I get that they are trying to help me, but it's not working. Not
one bit. The more they keep talking to me, the angrier I get. I am really messed up right now. I
guess my emotions are a mix between sad and crying and so angry I feel like I am just about to
blow my top. No seriously. By now I've reached to a point where I am screaming. It's all my fault!
No it's not sweetie. my mother tells me for the uptenth time. I feel bad for my sister. Poor Priscilla,
sitting down on the couch watching all the chaos go on while I scream between giant sobs. My
twin sister is very silent, but once you get to know her, she is super

Descriptive Essay On The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby, by Francis Scott Fitzgerald is an amazing novel that thank god it was turn into
a movie. It is probably one of my favorite movies of all time. Probably because it starts one of my
favorites actors of all time like the great Leonardo DiCaprio. Being that this novel is so well
known, so there is going to be many opinions about it. There is an extra of material that has been
written on The Great Gatsby. To me one of the most interesting aspect that The Great Gatsby brings
is the setting, which is during the 1920's, and how this movie represents the life of the great
Fitzgerald during this same time period. "In the 1920's and 1930s F. Scott Fitzgerald was equally
famous as a writer and as a celebrity author whose lifestyle seemed to symbolize the two decades"
(Fitzgerald, p. 2147). The movie is narrated by Nick Carraway, who moved to New York from the
mid–west. Nick moved to West Egg, which is a place where rich people lived. He bought a small
house next to none other than Jay Gatsby mansion. Nick is later invited by Gatsby itself to one of
his parties, where Gatsby tells Nick that him and Daisy were in love while Gatsby was in the war.
Later Nick arranged a meeting between Gatsby and Daisy, who turned out to be Nick's cousin.
Daisy's husband, Tom get suspicious of daisy's affair with Gatsby. Because of this, Tom arranged a
meeting to confront Gatsby in a hotel room. On the way back from this confrontation, Gatsby and
Daisy get into an accident killing Myrtle

Descriptive Essay On An Island
The first thing that hit me was the sound. The sounds of birds, the sound of the sea crawling onto
the sand. I felt million grains of sand underneath my feet and the cool breeze against my face.
Moreover, the tantalizing scent of the washed–up waves, coconut, and pineapple are all mixed into
one. As I opened my eyes, I was amazed by how easily fantasy and reality intertwined at that
moment. It was like continuing a dream after waking up. So I dragged myself up and turn my
head to the east. While the sky in the opposite direction was still dark, the dawn on the east side
already broke. A mixture of yellow and orange on the horizon beneath a dark neon blue ocean of
night had begun to peek out. As the sun continuously rose, all of the purple and deep blue faded
away, and the sun took its mighty position at the top of the sky, shining so very blindingly beautiful.
After I watched the sunrise, my mood lifted. Notwithstanding, I still feel threatened for I got
trapped on an island. I stood there for a moment and tried to figure out how I got to this island. A
series of quick flashback of a shipwreck, and a big storm. Consequently, I have a severe headache, so
I decided to sit down in the sand. While sitting down, I observe the island and find that I was
surrounded by water and some other islands. The water around the island was as clear as crystal,
to the point I can see the depths of the sea. Again, I dragged myself up and turn to the back; it
seemed like a tropical paradise. There were multitudes of greenery, lush foliage that looked like they
were painted on.
I walk deeper into the island. Nowhere, the sound of the birds started to raise up. It brought
freedom and happiness to the mind. Beautiful flowers in reds, yellows, purples, and pinks lounged
happily along the banks of small streams. Following the streams, it allowed me to hear the playful
sound of the water lapping on the rocks, and the sound of leaves rustling when the wind blew
gently, bringing with it a feeling of peace and tranquility. Continuing through the trees, my stomach
started growling like a monster who is ready to eat its prey. Accordingly, the smell of fruits
suddenly arises on my left side so I made my way toward the fruity smell,

The Class Everyone Dreads "Is EN100 a useful class to take?," this was a question I got asked by
a junior at my school. They were looking for classes to take next year; I told them that it was an
abundant amount of writing, but it was a great class to take. I went on to explain to them, that
taking it in high school would be easier and cheaper than in college. Beginning to explain to them
that it helped me grow as a writer and helped improve my English vocabulary, I realized it helped a
whole lot. Throughout the first semester of school, we had to write essays over four different topics.
These included informative, observation, reflection, and descriptive essays. I told them about my
experiences while writing with these certain types of essays. This is what I said: The first essay we
wrote was the descriptive writing style. I wrote an essay called, "Burger King's Crusty Castle". In
this essay, I wrote about the filth inside of the restaurant. Throughout this essay I got better with
describing every little detail in the story. I started off by saying, "The tea urns (used to keep all of
the freshly made tea in) smell like something had crawled in them and died" ("Burger King's
Crusty Castle"1). I eventually changed it to say, "The tea urns (used to keep all of the freshly
made tea in) smell like a skunk that has just been ran over" ("Burger King's Crusty Castle"11). I
added detail to the sentence to make it sound more fluent and to make you feel as if you could smell
it. It

Descriptive Essay About The Great Flood
The Great Flood Standing outside, clinging onto my balcony rail, watching the rain pour down
from the dark, gloomy sky, I wondered would it ever end. Each drop of rain continuously hitting
the concrete of the parking lot, had formed into a lake. It got depressing, watching the news, and
hearing the reporters saying, "The rain fall would be continuous for another 4 more days." "This is
sickening," my mom said, as she paced back and forth in the living room. Misery appeared on her
face, and my dad's, except my little brother seemed unaware of the natural disaster that was
occurring. "Mommy there's a pool outside," said Lalon. "No sweetheart, you can't swim in that water
it's contaminated with yucky things!" After realization of the...show more content...
It was just the matter of being patient while waiting for the boats to arrive. Loud knocks and deep
voices came from behind the doors of the apartment complex from the boat men. "Last call!" the
boatmen were yelling out. They had many more routes to pick up other helpless individuals. The
stairs were halfway under water, and we had to walk through the infectious waters just to get into
the boat. It only was room for my mom, little brother and I, so dad had to wait for the next boat.
The looks on everyone's faces were dazed, as we sailed past a school bus literally underwater and
our neighborhood grocery store, but you could only see the top of the sign. It was so silent while
we rode, all you heard was the roaring engine from the boat. As we went around the corner, it
appeared to be another world, there was not one drop of water. How could it only flood in certain
areas? I thought. The nice gentlemen helped us with our things from the boat to dry land, then we
got in a truck with two off–duty fire fighters, which took us to grandmother's house. Grandma's
house was only ten minutes away from us. We thanked the courteous men and were on our way. It
was remarkable how the water only stayed on my street. "Do we live in a sink–hole area," I asked
my mom. "No, our home isn't located in a flood zone, "she replied drearily. When myfamily arrived,
grandma was extremely hysterical and teary–eyed. She asks, "Are you guys

So, there I sat, seat G4 on the train headed to nowhere. I didn't have a destination; I never really
did. I guess that's just the type of person I was, someone who just hopped on a train for the ride. I
always liked trains. I don't know what it was about them, but for some reason or another, I always
found myself lounging in the same spot drinking hot cocoa. People always said that hot chocolate
"was only for kids" but I never got that; I had a pretty strong distaste for coffee. Honestly, I hate it,
the way it makes your teeth gritty to the point where you need something else to drink. I can't even
enjoy a cup unless it's lighter than my own skin tone, which, by the way, is pretty pale. I mean I

My mother raised me right, so I understood how wrong this was, but don't worry, nothing I had been
thinking was going to leave my thick skull. Most of the people on the train were older women with
their children, but next to me was a man. His eyes, like mine, matched his hair in blackness.
However creepy, I always found this feature refreshing, in the way that one finds a black cat. I
named this man Frank and created a story for him when another man caught my eye. It was his
coat. It was an expensive Ted Baker peacoat which was impressive for how young he was. I
worked out frequently and could tell by his body that he had been skipping leg day. His chest,
however, was ridiculously huge, almost as if it wasn't even real. My eyes drifted towards the
right of the train. I began to critique a young blonde when the man with the jacket began to walk
in my direction. He was walking fast, darting straight to the bathroom when his coat flap floated
up. I couldn't believe what I saw; it looked like a homemade bomb strapped to his chest. Spending
the next few minutes convincing myself that what I just saw wasn't what I thought it was, I began
to panic. Next thing I know, he's busting out of the bathroom with a gun and I was forced to
prepare for what was going to happen next. It didn't take long for everybody on the train to panic.
It rushed through each row as the sobs and cries made their way to every passenger. It was an
orchestra of agony and it

stumbling over their own feet. Gritting his teeth, a man in the car park presses the accelerator to

I'm going to describe a girl for you, try to keep up. Long light brown hair, vintage classy glasses,
one lonely dimple on the lower part of her mouth, soft pale skin, stone cold stare, and a dry sense
of humor. Can you picture her? Well if you can, then you've basically just met me. I usually try to
force a smile, wait no scratch that– I used to try to force a smile. Now I'm not saying this so that you
can view me as unhappy or negative, but in all fairness who has a smile as their natural way of
expression. By all means, my personality, interests, and hobbies are the fundamental building blocks
to the life I choose to live.
Is it too cliche to say that I am a teenage girl with big insecurities, an addiction with comparing
myself to others, and deepening trust issues? Well if it is, then add being cliche to the list. I guess
you can say my insecurities originate from the fact that my biggest critic is my own mother. From
the earliest years of elementary up till this present day, it was either my wardrobe, my posture, or
my way of speaking that gained the attention of my mother's judgmental eye. Eventually, the
criticism started to slip out of my own mouth, and that's when I began to compare myself to others.
I'm not oblivious to how unhealthy this makes me, but when I am told that I need to be better
(basically my entire life), it's easy to fall into unhealthy habits. Speaking of unhealthy habits, having
trust issues seems to be my main one. As I grew older and entered the

Descriptive Essay About A River
I thought how lovely and how strange a river is. A river is a river, always there, and yet the water
flowing through it is never the same water and is never still. It's always changing and is always
on the move. And over time the river itself changes too. It widens and deepens as it rubs and
scours, gnaws and kneads, eats and bores its way through the land. Even the greatest rivers must
have been trickles and flickering streams before they grew into mighty rivers. Are people like that?
Am I like that?" – Aiden Chambers. I grew up alongside the Mississippi River and now I have the
privilege to have the mighty river in my backyard again. This great river is just as beautiful as I
remembered. It makes me feel that even though time changes, somethings will always be the
same. On Thursday evening, as the sun began to quickly set, the sky became a beautiful oil color
painting with many variations of pinks, yellows, and blues. When I looked to my left, I saw pink
clouds that looked as if someone painted them to the sky with a dry paint brush. There are a line
trees just below the wispy clouds. One of the trees in the middle was a little taller than the others.
Across the river in Illinois, there is a large power tower. The tall grass in the field on the left blocked
me from seeing the river about 20 feet away from me. The dry, sandy path I parked my
four–wheeler on was torn up with ruts from the constant large trucks full of people who enjoy the
river as much as me. Straight

I never thought this day would come. I mean, I did know it was coming, but I just never thought
it would be this soon. Since birth, Lina has been my older sister, my companion, my confidant,
and moreover, my best friend. As years passed, I acknowledged that we were getting older, and
that the date of her departure was getting closer, yet, I did not want to believe it. Since last year,
she had been in the exhausting process of applying to universities, and by the end of May, the

pride and amazement, she accepted the scholarship and reserved her space in the Psychology field

Suddenly, she stood up and a warm smile lightened her face. Her eyes shone with excitement as her
three best friends approached her. They talked and laughed zealously; they joked as if they had
forgotten what was about to happen in less than an hour. I could not help myself from watching
her. Her smile was genuine and her sight deep. Her voice was melodic while she recounted all the
anecdotes the four girls had shared for six long years. She moved her hands while she talked and
showed her perfectly white teeth while she laughed. There was no fear in her face, just a spark of
adventure glistened at the corner of her eyes. She was about to undertake a journey to the small
state of Louisiana, to the beautiful jazz city of New Orleans, and even at the verge of starting a
new life on her own, she showed no signs of anxiety or uneasiness. There were so many reasons
why not to cry: she was happy, she was young, she had a great opportunity to study abroad,
something not everyone has, and many more that would take me a whole day to mention.
However, I only needed one reason why to cry: I would no longer have her by my side. As a
tremendous storm, an urge of crying overwhelmed me, and all I could do was to sit down, hide my
face in my hands and let my emotions overpower me. She looked at me and frowned. I knew it hurt
her to see me that way, but I couldn't stop. She came near me and hugged me, without saying a word.

Descriptive Essay On A Great Vacation
I was sitting on a hot steamy white sand beach where the ocean was washing into the shore. Cinque
Terre was a nice vacation spot to chill, relax, and go for a swim. Ninety–Five degree weather all day
long, everyday. My family and I were staying in a small, no air–conditioning house with only 3
bedrooms. During our sleep, we forget to close the windows so little lizards come into our house
and crawl up our walls. Cinque Terre is a great vacation spot for many family activities! Our first
day in a new country, I was having a great time so far! We ran down to the beach and swam for the
whole day. Some local people were hiking up the side of a mountain from the ocean. We noticed
there was a large platform that they created at three top. Us as a whole family wanted to
adventure up to the platform to see what all of the commotion was. Then as we reached the top of
the cliff, people were jumping off and diving, doing all sorts of tricks. We decided to jump as
well, this was a fun activity for us. As we continued hiking to a "higher spot" we found out that
there was several different platforms on the mountain. People even made a small rocky path for
people to walk up to. The tallest platform was too high for anyone to go on, but we went on the
second highest one which was still very scary. On the top of the mountain, we can see all around
the town of Cinque Terre. Also when we looked down at the clear sea water, we can see all the
way to the bottom and see the white sand. Sometimes fish will stroll by and we can see them swim
around our area.
The next day in Cinque Terre was a beautiful day. Theocean waves were rolling in, the bright sun
was shining high. As we were exploring the town looking for activities to do, a friendly tourist
came up to us and told us all about the things him and his family has done for the past week. This
gave us some ideas. We were told to go hiking. Scuba Dive. Explore all the local towns. Or enjoy a
nice day at the beach. Since we have already spent time at the beach we decided to just walk around
the many towns and enjoy our last day their. As we werewalking around one of the neighboring
towns of Cinque Terre, we remembered our local guide man told us about hiking. We found a small

Descriptive Essay On Meaningful Life
A Meaningful Life A meaningful life means find happiness in everything you do, it means enjoy
and share time with your loved ones, and have a purpose in life. To find happiness, we must go
through different tribulations and situations where life doesn't seem to be so easy. Happiness is an
art that can be learned, it describes a deep sense of inner well–being, peace and vitality. You must
know that even from your worst moments in life there is something good to take out of it. If we
really want to be happy we must be grateful for what we have, we must enjoy everything that has
been given to us. We must remember that out there, there is people wishing or working hard for
what we already have. As we read In Search of April Raintree we can...show more content...
Not having a strong family base, may end up in troubles only. Few examples of this can be when
April doesn't want to accept her heritage and all the tough situations she was exposed make her

was nothing to be proud of. Her parents are alcoholics, they don't care about their future. April
and Cheryl are taking to the foster homes, where they have to deal with racism and
discrimination. "The only thing was that they spoke of their friends and families back home, and
I had no one to speak of, except Cheryl "(P. 82) At some point April blamed her parents for what's
going on in their life "Soon, April; soon, Cheryl. Well take you back home as soon as we get
better. well, you lied to us. You never intended to get better. you never care about us. You made
Cheryl cry and you don't even care. And because of you, I'm stuck here. I hate you both for lying
to us. I hope I ever see you again." Although, April is not being raise by her parents, and life is
throwing at her a lot of hard situations, she teach us that we never have to lose our purpose in life.
Have purpose in life is to have the desire to become someone no matter what, to have goals and
purposes to fight for. We have to visualize our future and work hard for it. As April did even at her
young age, she was making way for her future. "I work hard all the summer and put all

Once at the airport were greeted with our growling tummies ready to devour. We have fifteen

Descriptive Essay : Home Sweet Home
After a long night of arguing with my husband over how safe our trip to Lebanon will be, I
decided to pack and go in June 2013. I wanted my kids to know where we came from, to meet my
family, and to know their culture. Unfortunately, there comes a time when you realize that you have
to carry your country in your heart and look for another safe "home sweet home." We finally arrived
after a long, 13–hour flight. After 6 years of being in the United States, we were finally home. I
couldn't find words to describe how I felt when we reached Beirut. The next day, we decided, my
brother and I, to take the kids for a ride and we promised them that, "Today, we will taste a different
kind of ice cream." I was enjoying the drive and, in my...show more content...
I was paralyzed and I didn't know what to do. I couldn't remember what my dad had taught us
years ago, in the Civil War, when we used to look for a safe place to hide. The Lebanese Civil War
lasted from 1975 until 1991. I can summarize my childhood memories as migrating from place to
place to escape these sounds. So many questions were crossing my mind. Did I make the right
decision bringing the kids here? Am I putting their lives in danger? How am I going to explain
this situation to the kids? I didn't want my kids to experience danger or fear. All that I wanted in
that moment was that the kids don't get hurt from any arbitrary bullet. I can write a book with all
the stories of innocent children and adults, who lost their lives because arbitrary bullets. "May he
rest in peace, he was a good guy." That's the sentence we hear after every accident. Lives taken and
broken hearts, that's what the weapons leave behind. The gunshots stopped and we finally
succeeded to find a safe spot, 15 minutes later. Should I say that I was scared, even terrified? I
didn't want my kids to experience this situation. That night, while I was watching the news, I learned
that the shooting incident was because of a car accident. According to reports, a 24 year old man
slightly hit another vehicle. The accident led to a dispute that ended in the death of the young man
shot directly in the head. In Lebanon, this is a daily, normal accident, that took

Campus Descriptive Essay
West Virginia University has hands down the most gorgeous campus I have ever seen. Every
morning I would wake up knowing that I have the privilege of attending a good school with a
breathtakingly beautiful campus. I was gradually awoken by the warm rays of sunlight filtering
into my room like a gentle wake up call. I got up to look out the window and I saw my fellow
classmates walking to class and going about their days. Stretching and yawning I prepare myself for
the day. I cannot help but to think that today is going to be a good day. As I stepped outside for the
first time I felt the cool breeze gently blowing between the buildings, giving everyone it touches a
breath of fresh air. Strolling through campus, I stopped for a minute to admire how the sun was
shining down on like a spotlight on all the beautiful blue and gold flowers. The landscapers
worked hard planting the flowers of the most royal of blues and the perfect shade of golden
yellow. Walking further down the hill I saw the familiar "flying dub v" on every passing persons
clothing. Most of my classmates were in a rush to get to class, but I took my time just absorbing
my surroundings. A strong breeze carried the scent of freshly cut grass to my nose and embraced
me as I continued my journey to class. Passing several students on my way, nodding my head in
acknowledgement, a few familiar faces make eye contact and smile. The weather that day was
perfect, not too hot, but

  • 1. Descriptive Essay About A Perfect Day Morning How breathtaking an early sunrise looked. Nature had never had such beauty to behold. The sun 's rays on the horizon looked so beautiful against the clouds. It made them turn all different shades of pink, gold and orange. Soon enough, the sunlight has filled up the entire sky. It was totally worth waking up at the crack of dawn. Despite how tired I was, it was the start to a perfect day. I relaxed while I listened to the birds singing in the trees. A cold breeze picked up in the wind making me shiver. I was glad. The last couple weeks of summer had been scorching. With the cold breeze in the wind warmth of the sun on my face;that made it even more spectacular. It was perfect. Absolutely perfect. After another half hour on the...show more content... Princess cannot, and will not(at least on my watch) –ever die. I have bursted into giant sobs by now. I know my parents are trying to make me feel better, and I really am sorry for making this whole situation worse –well, not at least entirely. I still can't seem to understand what my parents are trying to tell me. Well, of course I know what they are saying–I'm not deaf, but I'm having trouble just taking it all in . "Breath, just breath" My parents keep telling me. I get that they are trying to help me, but it's not working. Not one bit. The more they keep talking to me, the angrier I get. I am really messed up right now. I guess my emotions are a mix between sad and crying and so angry I feel like I am just about to blow my top. No seriously. By now I've reached to a point where I am screaming. It's all my fault! No it's not sweetie. my mother tells me for the uptenth time. I feel bad for my sister. • 2. Descriptive Essay On The Great Gatsby The Great Gatsby, by Francis Scott Fitzgerald is an amazing novel that thank god it was turn into a movie. It is probably one of my favorite movies of all time. Probably because it starts one of my favorites actors of all time like the great Leonardo DiCaprio. Being that this novel is so well known, so there is going to be many opinions about it. There is an extra of material that has been written on The Great Gatsby. To me one of the most interesting aspect that The Great Gatsby brings is the setting, which is during the 1920's, and how this movie represents the life of the great Fitzgerald during this same time period. "In the 1920's and 1930s F. Scott Fitzgerald was equally famous as a writer and as a celebrity author whose lifestyle seemed to symbolize the two decades" (Fitzgerald, p. 2147). The movie is narrated by Nick Carraway, who moved to New York from the mid–west. Nick moved to West Egg, which is a place where rich people lived. He bought a small house next to none other than Jay Gatsby mansion. Nick is later invited by Gatsby itself to one of his parties, where Gatsby tells Nick that him and Daisy were in love while Gatsby was in the war. Later Nick arranged a meeting between Gatsby and Daisy, who turned out to be Nick's cousin. Daisy's husband, Tom get suspicious of daisy's affair with Gatsby. Because of this, Tom arranged a meeting to confront Gatsby in a hotel room. On the way back from this confrontation, Gatsby and Daisy get into an accident killing Myrtle Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Descriptive Essay On An Island The first thing that hit me was the sound. The sounds of birds, the sound of the sea crawling onto the sand. I felt million grains of sand underneath my feet and the cool breeze against my face. Moreover, the tantalizing scent of the washed–up waves, coconut, and pineapple are all mixed into one. As I opened my eyes, I was amazed by how easily fantasy and reality intertwined at that moment. It was like continuing a dream after waking up. So I dragged myself up and turn my head to the east. While the sky in the opposite direction was still dark, the dawn on the east side already broke. A mixture of yellow and orange on the horizon beneath a dark neon blue ocean of night had begun to peek out. As the sun continuously rose, all of the purple and deep blue faded away, and the sun took its mighty position at the top of the sky, shining so very blindingly beautiful. After I watched the sunrise, my mood lifted. Notwithstanding, I still feel threatened for I got trapped on an island. I stood there for a moment and tried to figure out how I got to this island. A series of quick flashback of a shipwreck, and a big storm. Consequently, I have a severe headache, so I decided to sit down in the sand. While sitting down, I observe the island and find that I was surrounded by water and some other islands. The water around the island was as clear as crystal, to the point I can see the depths of the sea. Again, I dragged myself up and turn to the back; it seemed like a tropical paradise. There were multitudes of greenery, lush foliage that looked like they were painted on. I walk deeper into the island. Nowhere, the sound of the birds started to raise up. It brought freedom and happiness to the mind. Beautiful flowers in reds, yellows, purples, and pinks lounged happily along the banks of small streams. Following the streams, it allowed me to hear the playful sound of the water lapping on the rocks, and the sound of leaves rustling when the wind blew gently, bringing with it a feeling of peace and tranquility. Continuing through the trees, my stomach started growling like a monster who is ready to eat its prey. Accordingly, the smell of fruits suddenly arises on my left side so I made my way toward the fruity smell, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Descriptive Writing Essay The Class Everyone Dreads "Is EN100 a useful class to take?," this was a question I got asked by a junior at my school. They were looking for classes to take next year; I told them that it was an abundant amount of writing, but it was a great class to take. I went on to explain to them, that taking it in high school would be easier and cheaper than in college. Beginning to explain to them that it helped me grow as a writer and helped improve my English vocabulary, I realized it helped a whole lot. Throughout the first semester of school, we had to write essays over four different topics. These included informative, observation, reflection, and descriptive essays. I told them about my experiences while writing with these certain types of essays. This is what I said: The first essay we wrote was the descriptive writing style. I wrote an essay called, "Burger King's Crusty Castle". In this essay, I wrote about the filth inside of the restaurant. Throughout this essay I got better with describing every little detail in the story. I started off by saying, "The tea urns (used to keep all of the freshly made tea in) smell like something had crawled in them and died" ("Burger King's Crusty Castle"1). I eventually changed it to say, "The tea urns (used to keep all of the freshly made tea in) smell like a skunk that has just been ran over" ("Burger King's Crusty Castle"11). I added detail to the sentence to make it sound more fluent and to make you feel as if you could smell it. It Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Descriptive Essay About The Great Flood The Great Flood Standing outside, clinging onto my balcony rail, watching the rain pour down from the dark, gloomy sky, I wondered would it ever end. Each drop of rain continuously hitting the concrete of the parking lot, had formed into a lake. It got depressing, watching the news, and hearing the reporters saying, "The rain fall would be continuous for another 4 more days." "This is sickening," my mom said, as she paced back and forth in the living room. Misery appeared on her face, and my dad's, except my little brother seemed unaware of the natural disaster that was occurring. "Mommy there's a pool outside," said Lalon. "No sweetheart, you can't swim in that water it's contaminated with yucky things!" After realization of the...show more content... It was just the matter of being patient while waiting for the boats to arrive. Loud knocks and deep voices came from behind the doors of the apartment complex from the boat men. "Last call!" the boatmen were yelling out. They had many more routes to pick up other helpless individuals. The stairs were halfway under water, and we had to walk through the infectious waters just to get into the boat. It only was room for my mom, little brother and I, so dad had to wait for the next boat. The looks on everyone's faces were dazed, as we sailed past a school bus literally underwater and our neighborhood grocery store, but you could only see the top of the sign. It was so silent while we rode, all you heard was the roaring engine from the boat. As we went around the corner, it appeared to be another world, there was not one drop of water. How could it only flood in certain areas? I thought. The nice gentlemen helped us with our things from the boat to dry land, then we got in a truck with two off–duty fire fighters, which took us to grandmother's house. Grandma's house was only ten minutes away from us. We thanked the courteous men and were on our way. It was remarkable how the water only stayed on my street. "Do we live in a sink–hole area," I asked my mom. "No, our home isn't located in a flood zone, "she replied drearily. When myfamily arrived, grandma was extremely hysterical and teary–eyed. • 6. Descriptive Personal Experience Essay So, there I sat, seat G4 on the train headed to nowhere. I didn't have a destination; I never really did. I guess that's just the type of person I was, someone who just hopped on a train for the ride. I always liked trains. I don't know what it was about them, but for some reason or another, I always found myself lounging in the same spot drinking hot cocoa. People always said that hot chocolate "was only for kids" but I never got that; I had a pretty strong distaste for coffee. Honestly, I hate it, the way it makes your teeth gritty to the point where you need something else to drink. I can't even enjoy a cup unless it's lighter than my own skin tone, which, by the way, is pretty pale. I mean I wouldn't call myself pasty but... Anyhow, it...show more content... My mother raised me right, so I understood how wrong this was, but don't worry, nothing I had been thinking was going to leave my thick skull. Most of the people on the train were older women with their children, but next to me was a man. His eyes, like mine, matched his hair in blackness. However creepy, I always found this feature refreshing, in the way that one finds a black cat. I named this man Frank and created a story for him when another man caught my eye. It was his coat. It was an expensive Ted Baker peacoat which was impressive for how young he was. I worked out frequently and could tell by his body that he had been skipping leg day. His chest, however, was ridiculously huge, almost as if it wasn't even real. My eyes drifted towards the right of the train. I began to critique a young blonde when the man with the jacket began to walk in my direction. He was walking fast, darting straight to the bathroom when his coat flap floated up. I couldn't believe what I saw; it looked like a homemade bomb strapped to his chest. Spending the next few minutes convincing myself that what I just saw wasn't what I thought it was, I began to panic. Next thing I know, he's busting out of the bathroom with a gun and I was forced to prepare for what was going to happen next. It didn't take long for everybody on the train to panic. It rushed through each row as the sobs and cries made their way to every passenger. It was an orchestra of agony and it Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 8. Descriptive Essay I'm going to describe a girl for you, try to keep up. Long light brown hair, vintage classy glasses, one lonely dimple on the lower part of her mouth, soft pale skin, stone cold stare, and a dry sense of humor. Can you picture her? Well if you can, then you've basically just met me. I usually try to force a smile, wait no scratch that– I used to try to force a smile. Now I'm not saying this so that you can view me as unhappy or negative, but in all fairness who has a smile as their natural way of expression. By all means, my personality, interests, and hobbies are the fundamental building blocks to the life I choose to live. Is it too cliche to say that I am a teenage girl with big insecurities, an addiction with comparing myself to others, and deepening trust issues? Well if it is, then add being cliche to the list. I guess you can say my insecurities originate from the fact that my biggest critic is my own mother. From the earliest years of elementary up till this present day, it was either my wardrobe, my posture, or my way of speaking that gained the attention of my mother's judgmental eye. Eventually, the criticism started to slip out of my own mouth, and that's when I began to compare myself to others. I'm not oblivious to how unhealthy this makes me, but when I am told that I need to be better (basically my entire life), it's easy to fall into unhealthy habits. Speaking of unhealthy habits, having trust issues seems to be my main one. As I grew older and entered the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

My room had a beautiful dream catcher hanging on the wall and there was also a very big window that made it possible for me to see the moon every night. I always felt very relaxed in my room, but that day I could hear the screaming and arguing between my mom and my dad in the background. It was horrible. I could feel my eyes starting to water because I hated hearing my parents fight. The fighting and arguing continued for days. On one evening I could hear the voices of my parents arguing with my brothers. I was in my room as always and I started to feel room getting really hot. The noises and everything else around me made me feel very...show more content... "I haven 't been feeling so great lately",I said in a soft tone. My mom glanced at me with a very puzzled expression on her face. "What do you mean? Are you sick?", she asked with confusion in her voice. "No, I mean I don't know I just haven 't been feeling too great emotionally i guess.", I responded in a very little voice because I thought that maybe she would think that I was crazy. Once I said that my mom stopped folding all of the laundry. "Since when?", my mom asked with a very surprised tone. "Maybe like 3 months.", I responded. "What! Three months why didn't you tell me". " I didn't tell you because I thought you wouldn't understand.", I said in a tone that almost sounded annoyed, which I think I might have been. " I think you should go to the doctor.", she told me. I didn't want to go to the doctor, but I knew that it would most likely help me. A couple days later I went to the doctor and he just asked me a bunch of questions. One of the questions was, what did it feel like to have an anxiety attack. That was probably one of the hardest questions i had ever had to answer. I couldn 't find the right words to describe how it felt. As he kept asking me questions he would write things down. I couldn't help but wonder what he was writing down. I would keep having the thought that maybe he was writing down all of the bad things. After the doctor stopped talking to me he started to talk to my mom about ways to help Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 11. Descriptive Essay About A River I thought how lovely and how strange a river is. A river is a river, always there, and yet the water flowing through it is never the same water and is never still. It's always changing and is always on the move. And over time the river itself changes too. It widens and deepens as it rubs and scours, gnaws and kneads, eats and bores its way through the land. Even the greatest rivers must have been trickles and flickering streams before they grew into mighty rivers. Are people like that? Am I like that?" – Aiden Chambers. I grew up alongside the Mississippi River and now I have the privilege to have the mighty river in my backyard again. This great river is just as beautiful as I remembered. It makes me feel that even though time changes, somethings will always be the same. On Thursday evening, as the sun began to quickly set, the sky became a beautiful oil color painting with many variations of pinks, yellows, and blues. When I looked to my left, I saw pink clouds that looked as if someone painted them to the sky with a dry paint brush. There are a line trees just below the wispy clouds. One of the trees in the middle was a little taller than the others. Across the river in Illinois, there is a large power tower. The tall grass in the field on the left blocked me from seeing the river about 20 feet away from me. The dry, sandy path I parked my four–wheeler on was torn up with ruts from the constant large trucks full of people who enjoy the river as much as me. Straight Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Saying Goodbye Essay I never thought this day would come. I mean, I did know it was coming, but I just never thought it would be this soon. Since birth, Lina has been my older sister, my companion, my confidant, and moreover, my best friend. As years passed, I acknowledged that we were getting older, and that the date of her departure was getting closer, yet, I did not want to believe it. Since last year, she had been in the exhausting process of applying to universities, and by the end of May, the University of New Orleans (UNO) granted her with a generous scholarship. With a smile full of pride and amazement, she accepted the scholarship and reserved her space in the Psychology field in the UNO. Overshadowed by the great news of her scholarship, we failed to...show more content... Suddenly, she stood up and a warm smile lightened her face. Her eyes shone with excitement as her three best friends approached her. They talked and laughed zealously; they joked as if they had forgotten what was about to happen in less than an hour. I could not help myself from watching her. Her smile was genuine and her sight deep. Her voice was melodic while she recounted all the anecdotes the four girls had shared for six long years. She moved her hands while she talked and showed her perfectly white teeth while she laughed. There was no fear in her face, just a spark of adventure glistened at the corner of her eyes. She was about to undertake a journey to the small state of Louisiana, to the beautiful jazz city of New Orleans, and even at the verge of starting a new life on her own, she showed no signs of anxiety or uneasiness. There were so many reasons why not to cry: she was happy, she was young, she had a great opportunity to study abroad, something not everyone has, and many more that would take me a whole day to mention. However, I only needed one reason why to cry: I would no longer have her by my side. As a tremendous storm, an urge of crying overwhelmed me, and all I could do was to sit down, hide my face in my hands and let my emotions overpower me. She looked at me and frowned. I knew it hurt her to see me that way, but I couldn't stop. She came near me and hugged me, without saying a word. What Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Descriptive Essay On A Great Vacation I was sitting on a hot steamy white sand beach where the ocean was washing into the shore. Cinque Terre was a nice vacation spot to chill, relax, and go for a swim. Ninety–Five degree weather all day long, everyday. My family and I were staying in a small, no air–conditioning house with only 3 bedrooms. During our sleep, we forget to close the windows so little lizards come into our house and crawl up our walls. Cinque Terre is a great vacation spot for many family activities! Our first day in a new country, I was having a great time so far! We ran down to the beach and swam for the whole day. Some local people were hiking up the side of a mountain from the ocean. We noticed there was a large platform that they created at three top. Us as a whole family wanted to adventure up to the platform to see what all of the commotion was. Then as we reached the top of the cliff, people were jumping off and diving, doing all sorts of tricks. We decided to jump as well, this was a fun activity for us. As we continued hiking to a "higher spot" we found out that there was several different platforms on the mountain. People even made a small rocky path for people to walk up to. The tallest platform was too high for anyone to go on, but we went on the second highest one which was still very scary. On the top of the mountain, we can see all around the town of Cinque Terre. Also when we looked down at the clear sea water, we can see all the way to the bottom and see the white sand. Sometimes fish will stroll by and we can see them swim around our area. The next day in Cinque Terre was a beautiful day. Theocean waves were rolling in, the bright sun was shining high. As we were exploring the town looking for activities to do, a friendly tourist came up to us and told us all about the things him and his family has done for the past week. This gave us some ideas. We were told to go hiking. Scuba Dive. Explore all the local towns. Or enjoy a nice day at the beach. Since we have already spent time at the beach we decided to just walk around the many towns and enjoy our last day their. As we werewalking around one of the neighboring towns of Cinque Terre, we remembered our local guide man told us about hiking. We found a small Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Happiness is an art that can be learned, it describes a deep sense of inner well–being, peace and vitality. You must know that even from your worst moments in life there is something good to take out of it. April and Cheryl are taking to the foster homes, where they have to deal with racism and discrimination. "The only thing was that they spoke of their friends and families back home, and I had no one to speak of, except Cheryl "(P. 82) At some point April blamed her parents for what's going on in their life "Soon, April; soon, Cheryl. Well take you back home as soon as we get better. well, you lied to us. You never intended to get better. you never care about us. You made Cheryl cry and you don't even care. And because of you, I'm stuck here. I hate you both for lying to us. I hope I ever see you again." Although, April is not being raise by her parents, and life is throwing at her a lot of hard situations, she teach us that we never have to lose our purpose in life. • 15. Descriptive Essay Descriptive Essay It was a seemingly beautiful day as I drove on a joy ride in my bright blue sports car, with the wind in my hair. This is an everyday activity for me. My friends would mock me saying, "You spend more money on gas than you make working." I laughed to myself at the thought of jokes amongst my friends. That happiness was soon halted. As I continued driving, I saw a car coming rapidly around the curve. The car did not show any signs of slowing down as it headed towards the intersection. The light turned yellow and then quickly red. Another object caught my eye that made me fear what was going to happen next. A young couple started crossing the street wearing fancy attire. The first thought that came to mind was, 'they are...show more content... One of the police officers came up to me introduced himself, asked me my name and started, "Have you ever seen this driver before? On the road or around town?" I quickly responded, "No, I have not officer." He continued, "I learned from the call back to the station that the driver, David Chrisenger, is considered the town drunk and does not currently have a valid license due to drinking and driving". He asked me some questions and asked me to fill out an incident report. Still shaken up by the whole incident I gladly accepted. The officer ended our conversation. "Thank you so much for your time, Kevin. We really appreciate it." The only thought running through my head on my way home was how much I had not appreciated my wife and children. To witness something of that nature makes one conscientious about what you have and how quickly it could vanish. I vowed after that day to speak out against drinking and driving and the terrible outcomes that can transpire from something that some do not view as a "big deal". It is apparent that better ways have to be found for getting drunk drivers off the road. I encourage anyone to be responsible for their lives and others by agreeing to never drink and drive again, and to also aid your family and friends in doing so. Have a designated driver each night or call a cab. Everyone is capable of saving a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Descriptive Essay About My Mother No matter how hard life gets for me and how chaotic things can become there has always been one person that I can turn to, my mom. My mother is strong–willed and stubborn; when she sets her mind to something almost nothing will stop her and what an impossible feat it is to change her mind on something. She is very impatient; when she wants something done she wants it done at this very moment, no later. She is idealistic and she enjoys the simpler things that life has to offer. She loves nature and would love nothing more than to be living in a cabin in the mountains while listening to country music. She does not pay much attention to news happening outside her local area and prefers to focus on what's happening in her immediate area. From my mother I have learned how to be the person that I am today. Through her I have learned the importance of family and that it is paramount to spend time with them while I still have it. Even now I try to spend time with my family when I have the opportunity to. Form her I have learned compassion for those around me and for animals. Even Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 18. Descriptive Essay : Home Sweet Home After a long night of arguing with my husband over how safe our trip to Lebanon will be, I decided to pack and go in June 2013. I wanted my kids to know where we came from, to meet my family, and to know their culture. Unfortunately, there comes a time when you realize that you have to carry your country in your heart and look for another safe "home sweet home." We finally arrived after a long, 13–hour flight. After 6 years of being in the United States, we were finally home. I couldn't find words to describe how I felt when we reached Beirut. Am I putting their lives in danger? How am I going to explain this situation to the kids? I didn't want my kids to experience danger or fear. • 19. Campus Descriptive Essay West Virginia University has hands down the most gorgeous campus I have ever seen. Every morning I would wake up knowing that I have the privilege of attending a good school with a breathtakingly beautiful campus. I was gradually awoken by the warm rays of sunlight filtering into my room like a gentle wake up call. I got up to look out the window and I saw my fellow classmates walking to class and going about their days. Stretching and yawning I prepare myself for the day. I cannot help but to think that today is going to be a good day. As I stepped outside for the first time I felt the cool breeze gently blowing between the buildings, giving everyone it touches a breath of fresh air. Strolling through campus, I stopped for a minute to admire how the sun was shining down on like a spotlight on all the beautiful blue and gold flowers. The landscapers worked hard planting the flowers of the most royal of blues and the perfect shade of golden yellow. Walking further down the hill I saw the familiar "flying dub v" on every passing persons clothing.
