Successful writing needs a simultaneous
attention to: content, audience, purpose,
syntax, grammar, mechanics,
organization, and the writing process.
Related studies found that experienced
and inexperienced writers employ
different strategies.

This research reveals metacognitive
strategies employed by inexperienced
writers.
Based on O’Malley and Chamot (1990:137)
metacognitive strategies refer to:

   thinking about the writing process,
   planning for writing,
   monitoring the writing task, and
   evaluating the text that has been produced
Which metacognitive strategies do
graduate students employ in writing
term papers in English?
To investigate which metacognitive
strategies employed by graduate students
in writing term papers in English.

   program of English Education major

Two students with initial names:
           D and W
Recording

(using a tape-recorder)
Thinking-aloud done by D and W
when they were writing the first draft of
          their term papers
The spoken verbalizations of D and W
 were recorded with a tape recorder.
