This Powerpoint slide show re last Sunday's earthquake in Baja California. The photos show damage in & around the city of Mexicali, and illustrate the types of failures that occur when buildings are not designed & built to resist EQ forces. The damage is dramatic - it seems miraculous that more
people weren't killed or injured [2 died,
250 were injured, 5200 buildings were damaged]. The photos of dust clouds rising over the mountains remind me of accounts in the AZ Daily Star from 1887 that described clouds of dust hanging over the Catalinas north of Tucson, after the historical earthquake that damaged our Mission.
