Training
• Social learning is a concept that has become popular within the education and
business world.
• Learning no longer has to occur within the four walls of a classroom as it was
traditionally done.
• Social learning erases the classroom walls, and the exchange of information can
happen in various environments such as a café, online chat or a social outing.
• Social learning enables a group of three or more people to come together to
share knowledge and learn from one another.
• Social learning builds confidence, communication, and problem-solving skills.
The world of technology provides numerous tools that bring individuals
together to create and maintain a social learning environment.

  1. Maranda Speaks Social Learning is a vital component of an organization. The What is Social Learning YouTube video demonstrates what social learning is and how it can impact an organization.
  2. Maranda Speaks Social learning in an organization can hold many roles. In Team C International Inc. social learning holds a communication and employee development role. Through social media tools employees are able to engage with one other. Through this active engagement employees are able to learn from each other. The tools allow employees that are in different departments or countries to share their knowledge and absorb new knowledge. It also gives employees an opportunity to collaborate will one another to discover new processes or products. Social learning also aids in the development of employees. Organizations are able to build internal learning communities. Through these communities employees are able to share and learn new elements, processes and products that the organization has developed. Employees are constantly learning and building an internal company wide knowledge base.
  3. Maranda Speaks There are multiple barriers that can prevent an organization from having an effective social learning environment. Barriers such as lack of participation, support, bullying, discrimination of any form and lack of social learning tools can hinder an organization efforts to have a productive social learning environment. Organizations have to put policies in place that will help them overcome these barriers. A productive social learning environment can yield many benefits for an organization. Social learning will motivate employees to collaborate and create. It will also build strong internal and external relationships.
  4. Lisa Speaks Social Learning is a valuable tool and resource when it comes to addressing business problems. Corporations and organizations must have a clear insight of social learning before implementing this method towards problem solving. All individuals grasp knowledge at many different angles and in order for the individual to be successful, the organization must provide the necessary tools for social learning and problem solving.
  5. Lisa Speaks The purpose of having a training session provides individuals with the information in which they need to solve specific problems through social learning. Individuals need to have guidance and support when utilizing social learning for problem solving. When individuals collaborate together and discuss the topic at hand, this opens opportunities for problem solving within the community (Social Learning in a Corporate Environment. (2015, March 10). Employees and individuals are able to address a question or problem and have open discussions via social learning. This allows the individuals to seek a resolution or solution for the problem at hand by gathering information and advice from those who have had experienced the difficult setting. If social learning is not used properly, this could hinder the employee’s perception of the problem being discussed. Since social learning is becoming so popular and widespread it can cause information to be provided that may not correlate to the problem. Individual’s opinions may be influential and commanding which can ultimately cause confusion or hesitation for the employee. As circumstances and situations arise, it is important for the employee to be aware of their community and other’s involved within the group. As individuals become familiar with their peer’s behaviors this can allow the individual to understand more about their peer and their personal and professional experiences and they can choose to apply their opinions towards the problem at hand. Problem solving processes are similar and different when addressed via social learning versus formal training. Formal training allows individuals to work together and collaborate ideas in which social learning does as well. However, formal training has limits on what resources can be accessed for learning where as social learning has no limits. Employees are able to access more information from other individuals and sites that a formal training does not offer for learning and problem solving.
