The document summarizes scientific evidence that supports descriptions of natural phenomena in the Quran that were revealed over 1400 years ago, before they were discovered by modern science. It describes how the Quran accurately referenced the Big Bang theory, black holes, an expanding universe, and formation of rain clouds and mentions evidence that has been discovered relatively recently supporting descriptions in the Quran of icy comets or mountains descending from the sky.

3. “ Allah (God) is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The example of His Light is as a niche (black hole) wherein is a Lamp (quasar) : the Lamp enclosed in Glass (gravitational lens effect of the galaxy) : the glass as it were a brilliant star: Lit from a blessed Tree (the galaxy that feeds the black hole) , (as) an olive (see image above), neither of the east nor of the west (stars and gas as fuel from all sides) , whose fuel is luminous even though no fire touches it (non-fire/oxygen combustion) : Light upon Light (gravitational lens effect)! Allah guides whom He will to His Light: Allah sets forth Parables for humankind. Indeed Allah has knowledge of all things”. (Koran 24:35)
4. "If we do discover a complete theory, it should in time be understandable in broad principle by everyone, not just a few scientists. Then we shall all, philosophers, scientists and just ordinary people, be able to take part in the discussion of why it is that we and the universe exist. If we find the answer to that, it would be the ultimate triumph of human reason- for then we would truly know the mind of God." (Stephen W. Hawking, A Brief History of Time, 1988)

6. ".....The nature of God, according to which he has originated humankind. There is no changing the order that God has established. That indeed is the STANDARD established order (deen al qiyyam). But most among humankind understand not (Koran 30:30) " Do not the rejecters see that the skies and earth were bound together then we disunited [or separated] them (Fataq in Arabic) ..." (Koran 21:30)
7.
8. In the above statement, the Koran gives an accurate description of the Big Bang , a theory of the origin of the universe widely accepted by scientists today. The Arabic word used in the Koran to signify separation is Fataq . It means to dis-joint or disunite. It essentially captures, in the description, "symmetry breaking" between particles and forces that modern cosmologists talk about in explaining the complexity of the Universe.
9. "Our universe may once have been squeezed to a single point, but EVERYONE whether on Earth, or Andromeda, or even on the galaxies remotest from us can EQUALLY claim to have started from that point..." (Rees, page 55) According to the physicist Steven Weinberg: "There was a time in the very early universe....when the forces were all the same-not only mathematically the same...but ACTUALLY the same." (quoted by Ferris, Timothy 1997:215)
10. The Koran, over 14 centuries before the "Big Bang" theory was presented, confirmed the "common origin" or source of everything in the universe. The criticism by some that it mentions the "earth" erroneously at this stage is unfounded. The Koran is merely stating that the earth and the skies had one common origin. It mirrors the statement by Martin Rees quoted above when it mentions the "common origin" of everything, including you and I, in the Universe. How do we explain this information in the Koran, if it had its origin in the mind of a 7th century man ?
11. The Koran talks about an "expanding" Universe centuries before scientists described it: "And the sky We built it with might, and we cause the expansion of it." (Koran 51:47) The fact that the Universe is not static but in a state of expansion was discovered by the American astronomer Edwin Hubble in the late 1920s, almost 1400 years after the Koran described it. The Koran mentions that at a stage in its origin, the universe was "gaseous": "And also, turned He to the sky when it was as smoke.."(Koran 41:11).
12. The Koran is aware of the phenomenon of "black holes", stars that have collapsed under their intense gravitational field, so that even light cannot escape. The Koran stated over 1200 years before the concept was stated by John Michell in 1767, and 1400 years before John Archibald Wheeler coined the term "black hole" in 1968: I swear by the sky and (the phenomena of) Tariq. And what will explain to you what Tariq is? It is a star that pierces (or makes a hole). (Koran 86:1-3)
13. The Koran uses the word Thaqib in Arabic, a word that literally signifies a puncture or a minute hole Martin Rees, states in Our Cosmic Habitat (2001) "Space is already being punctured by the formation of black holes..." (Rees, page 120)
14. In order to create, God has no need to design It’s important that the word “design” be properly understood. That God has created a flawless design does not mean that He first made a plan and then followed it. God, the Lord of the Earth and the heavens, needs no “designs” in order to create. God is exalted above all such deficiencies. His planning and creation take place at the same instant. Whenever God wills a thing to come about, it is enough for Him just to say, "Be!" As verses of the Qur’an tell us: His command when He desires a thing is just to say to it, “Be!” and it is. (Qur’an, 36: 82) [God is] the Originator of the heavens and Earth. When He decides on something, He just says to it, “Be!” and it is. (Qur’an, 2: 117)
15. Let not your dislike for a people cause you to deal unjustly. Deal justly, for that is closer to taqwa (5:8) When you speak, speak justly, even if a near relative is concerned (6:152) When you make a decision between people, decide fairly (4:58)
16. Road Map to a Muslim Renaissance by Nathan Gardels (Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions) Ahmed Zewail was awarded the 1999 Nobel prize in chemistry for developing the femtoscope, which photographs the actual moment of molecular binding of chemicals. Born and raised in Egypt, he is now a naturalized American citizen who holds the Linus Pauling Professorship at the California Institute of Technology. He spoke at his Caltech office in Pasadena, Calif. with NPQ (New Perspectives Quarterly) editor Nathan Gardels in 2003. NPQ | You are the only Arab to ever win a Nobel prize for science and, since the death of the Pakistani physicist Abdus Salam, the only one among the 1.2 billion Muslims with that honor. What accounts for this scientific slumber of the Muslim Arab world and the consequent economic gap with the West and East Asia? Does it have anything to do with civilizational reasons--the fact that faith and reason remain fused in the Islamic world, thus hobbling science?
17. AHMED ZEWAIL | It is too simplistic to say that there is a singular cause--for example, the lack of separation of faith and reason--for why the Muslim Arab world fell into scientific slumber just as the Christian world woke up. From a genetic point of view, Muslim Arabs are no different from anyone else. Historically, of course, Arabs and Muslims in Spain and Arabia were at the peak of their civilization when so-called Christian Europe was in the Dark Ages. No doubt without the Arab scholarly works and translations from Greek philosophy to their original work in astronomy, European development might not have taken place for another 500 years. What is more important is the modern history of what happened to the Arab world. During the time of Muhammad Ali only 200 years ago, Egypt was in such a strong position that the Japanese and Koreans at the time studied how its economy worked. What happened in the last century? First of all, there was colonization, which by definition installed a class and caste system of the governing elite from or allied with the outside, with all the clubs and prestige, for example, of the British Empire, and then a huge population of illiterate peasants.
18. General illiteracy reached 50 percent. For women it was as high as 80 percent. With that level of illiteracy as colonization ended after the World War II, what did the Arab countries do? They looked first West, then East, to the superpowers for help. And when they didn't get anywhere in terms of economic development, after the Cold War, knowing the geography of humanity, there was only one other place left to look--up. And that search for answers has been exploited by some to politicize faith and religion. It goes without saying that the developing world can't just sit there in stagnation and not help itself. I'm critical of that as well. But in addressing the gap, you can't fail to bear in mind this history which has created large populations of frustrated people who don't have jobs or opportunities. Worse, even a big fraction of young college graduates today doesn't have jobs. What do they do then? All that energy goes into fanaticism and violence. And, unlike the rest of world facing a silver wave, the Arab world is facing a youth wave: Most of the population is under 30. So, this business of conflict of civilizations is a slogan. It sells well, but more important are the political and economic forces that lead to religious fanaticism.
19. NPQ | Wouldn't it help if Allah met Galileo in the Muslim Arab world? The scholar Ibn Rochd tried to bring reason together with faith in the 12th century, but that has been eclipsed since. Since revelation still rules over reason, the scientific mentality has been unable to take hold. ZEWAIL | I don't believe the state of affairs in the Muslim world today is because of religious boundaries in the mind. What I do believe is that the economic situation and the frustrations that exist among the population, fed by ill education, are creating unenlightened groups that use religion for their own purposes and put down the pursuit of scientific knowledge. And this despite the first "surah" (injunction) in the Koran--read. NPQ | Indeed, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has said that it is not Islam that stands in the way of development, but the politicized ulamas who argue that knowledge is only about studying the Koran, not about science and technology from the West. ZEWAIL | Mahathir is right, and he is the leader who has made Malaysia an exception as a mostly modernized Muslim country. It is not religion that blocks development, but the lack of education and development that leads to the political use of religion. That in turn impedes the advance of the scientific mind among Muslims.
20. I was very fortunate, personally. I had a very good job after graduation. With 20 Egyptian pounds I lived very well. I could go to the theater, I could go out. Then I got a fellowship from America to come and get my education. So at least I could see light. I could see hope. If I were young today, life would be far more difficult and, being from the Arab world, America would probably not take me as a student because it suspects terror links. What do you think I would do then? One option is that I would join an underground group that would offer me a better opportunity. Whatever my doctrine or the ideology, this option--perhaps the only one--wouldn't sound bad to me. NPQ | So modern education and jobs are key to turning everything around? ZEWAIL | Yes, but the problem today goes even deeper to the very meaning of literacy. With the youth population explosion, illiteracy in modern science and technology has also increased enormously. Think of the gap that creates. Already 10 years ago we had a box on the Caltech application form marked "literacy"--meaning computer literacy!
21. Allah said in the Qur'aan: (Notice the great detail) Have you not seen how Allah makes the clouds move gently, then joins them together, then makes them into a stack, and then you see the rain come out of it...? [Qur'aan 24:43] Meteorologists have only recently come to know these details of cloud formation, structure, and function by using advanced equipment like planes, satellites, computers, balloons, and other equipment to study winds and its direction, to measure humidity and its variations, and to determine the levels and variations of atmospheric pressure. These are some of the ideas on meteorology that were dominant at the time of the Qur'aan's revelation, fourteen centuries ago. This is no less than a reminder to (all) the worlds. And you shall certainly know the truth of it (all) after a while.(38:87-88).
22. The preceding verse, after mentioning clouds and rain, speaks about hail and lightning: And He sends down hail from mountains (clouds) in the sky, and He strikes with it whomever He wills, and turns it from whoever He wills. The vivid flash of its lightning nearly blind s the sight. [Qur'aan 24:43] Meteorologists have found that these cumulonimbus clouds, that shower hail, reach a height of 25,000 to 30,000 feet (4.7 to 5.7 miles), like mountains, as the Qur'aan said, And He sends down hail from mountains (clouds) in the sky...
23. Qur'anic Revelations Allah says: "Have you not seen how Allah drives the clouds, then gathers them, then makes them layers, and you see the rain come forth from between them." (First half of verse 43 of surah Al-Nur). Here Allah Ta'ala is describing the formation of rain clouds and the rainfall from the clouds. This phenomenon is very common and known to every human being. But what is not known to human beings are the truths that are found in the following ayat (verses) from the Noble Qur'an. Allah says: "Wa anzala minassamaa'i ma'an," "And (Allah) causes water to descend from the heavens," Al-Baqarah, 2:22, Ibrahim, 14:32, and Al-Nahl, 16:65). Now, the question is why does Allah Ta'ala say that He causes the water to descend from the heavens, in contradiction to the surah Al-Nur, verse 43 cited above? If carefully studied, the following verse makes no sense and the disbelievers would belittle the Noble Qur'an and Word of Allah: "...He sends down from the heavens mountains wherein is hail..." (Second half of verse 43 of surah Al-Nur). Hail is frozen rain or stones of frozen water. This verse very clearly states that Allah sends down from the heavens mountains containing ice ball or comets of ice. According to this verse, mountains of ice or comets are sent down from the heavens (space) towards the earth. Until 1986, this phenomenon was not known to mankind, but it was scientifically confirmed in 1988 .
24. Dr Frank's calculations show this would contribute the equivalent of one inch of water all over the earth's surface every 10,000 years. The earth was formed 4.9bn years ago and if this has been happening since the creation of the earth, the process would provide enough water for the oceans and the polar ice packs. Experimental Proof Dr Yeates used a powerful space search telescope at the Kitt Peak Observatory in Arizona to scan the heavens for the snowballs of icy comets. By swinging the telescope, similar to a shot gun at a skeet shoot, he photographed the descending icy comets approaching earth. He told the writer that viewing through this telescope, he was able to see the icy comets 150,000km or 90,000 miles above the earth (or the heavens). Dr Yeates said, "It was remarkable. The results agreed exactly with the predictions."
25. Dr Louis Frank, a physicist at the University of Iowa City, studied the data gathered from 1981-1986 by the Dynamic Explorer I satellite . The satellite took ultraviolet images of the earth, particularly to study the air flow around the earth. In these images, Dr Frank found holes punched through the atmosphere. These holes could not be explained. He discarded dozens of explanations after analysing them. He finally concluded that the holes could only be made by snowballs or comets of ice coming from space. He estimated the weight of each comet to be 100 tons and they are coated with black hydrocarbons. They are falling on the earth at the rate of 10mn a year (27,397 per day or 19 every minute). The snowball or comet of ice measures about 30 feet across. Dr Clayne Yeates, a physicist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California told this writer that the comets of ice or snowball are moving at 10km per second (21,600 mph) relative to the earth and at about 1,000km (600 miles) above the earth. They break up (into hail) due to tidal waves and would then flash to vapour in the atmosphere. Finally, the vapour would fall as rain and join the earth's water cycle.
26. As we know, these chromosomes contain all the characteristics which the new human being will have such as the color of the eyes, skin, hair, etc. Hence, many of the details in the human being’s make-up are determined in his chromosomes. These chromosomes begin to form during the early nutfah stage of embryonic development. In other words, the distinguishing features of the new human being aredetermined from the very beginning at the nutfah stage. Allah, the Most Exalted, the Most Glorified, has stated this fact in the Qur’aan: During the first 40 days of gestation, all the body parts and organs are completely, though consecutively, formed. The Prophet Muhammad, (sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam), has informed us in a hadeeth that: In every one of you, all components of your creation are gathered together in your mothers’ womb by 40 days. (Narrated in Saheeh Muslim and Al-Bukhaari). In another Hadeeth, Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said: When forty-two nights have passed over the drop (nutfah), Allah sends an angel to it, who shapes it and makes its ears, eyes, skin, flesh and bones. Then he says, "O Lord, is it male or female?" and your Lord decides what he wishes. (Narrated in Saheeh Muslim). Joe Leigh Simpson, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the North Western University in Chicago in the United States of America
27. Professor Simpson studied these two hadeeths extensively, noting that the first 40 days constitute a clearly distinguishable stage of embryogenesis. He was particularly impressed by the absolute precision and accuracy of those hadeeths. Then during one of the conferences which he attended he gave the following opinion: So that the two hadeeths that have been noted can provide us with a specific time table for the main embryological development before 40 days. Again, the point had been made repeatedly by other speakers this morning that these hadeeths could not have been obtained on the basis of the scientific knowledge that was available at the time of their recording.

31. The logic that nothing, but chance, is scientific is a flawed one. It is a logical dead-end. If brand-new civilizations were discovered in outer space, would the logic of Darwinism and chance be employed in all of them? Would it be claimed that chance established civilizations everywhere? The portrayal of this miserable logic as scientific is the shame and disgrace of the current century.
39. It has been shown that Islam is not in conflict with science and that Al-Qur'an does not contradict or negate modern scientific findings or discoveries. On the other hand, Western scholars have praised and credited Islam for the preservation and advancement of scientific knowledge by Muslim scientists, physicians and technologists. Over 1,400 years later, modern science is bringing to light the truths or confirming what has been revealed in Al-Qur'an. A learned Muslim will find in the Qur'an scientific truths and realities.
40. Professor Keith Moore , one of the world’s prominent scientists of anatomy and embryology; University of Toronto, Canada. It has been a great pleasure for me to help clarify statements in the Qur’aan about human development. It is clear to me that these statements must have come to Muhammad from God, or 'Allah', because almost all of this knowledge was not discovered until many centuries later. This proves to me that Muhammad must have been a messenger of Allah. Dr. T.V.N. Persaud is a Professor of Anatomy and Head of the Department of Anatomy, and a professor of Pediatrics and Child Health, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He is the author or editor of 25 books, and has published over 181 scientific papers. In 1991, he received the most distinguished award presented in the field of anatomy in Canada. "It seems to me that Muhammad was a very ordinary man. He could not read or write. In fact, he was illiterate. We are talking about 1400 years ago. You have someone who was illiterate making profound pronouncement and statements and are amazingly accurate about scientific nature. I personally cannot see how this could be mere chance. There are too many accuracy’s and, like Dr. Moore, I have no difficulty in my mind in concerning that this is a divine inspiration or revelation which led him to these statements."
